USB
• USB, short for Universal Serial Bus
• it is a standard plug-and-play type of connection for many kinds of devices.
• • USB is intended to replace many varieties of serial and parallel ports
• USB refers to the types of cables and connectors used to connect many types of
external devices to computers.
• setting up communication between a computer and peripheral devices.
• USB has become the standard connection method. USB was designed for personal computers
, as a power cord between a device and an adapter plugged into a wall plug for charging with
help of cable.
3
WUSB
• Wireless USB is sometimes abbreviated as "WUSB”
• Wireless USB is a short-range, high-bandwidth wireless radio communication protocol
created by the wireless USB promoter group.
• which is capable of sending 480 Mbit/s at distances up to 3 metres (9.8 ft) and 110 Mbit/s
at up to 10 meters (33 ft). It was designed to operate in the 3.1 to 10.6 GHz frequency
range.
• The basic transport mechanism for Wireless USB is the ultra-wide band (UWB) radio
platform.

All devices that use RF signals for
communication are known as wireless devices.
Some examples of these devices are walkie-talkies,
baby monitors, phones, tablets, Bluetooth mice and
keyboards, wireless routers, etc.. 6
Features of WUSB
• Wireless USB will build on the success of Wired USB. An important goal of
the WUSB Promoter Group is to ensure that wireless USB offers users the
experience they have come to expect from wired USB. Toward that end, the
Wireless USB standard is being designed to support the following features:
Easy Migration Path : -
• To enable an easy migration path from wired USB, Wireless USB will maintain the
same usage models and architecture as wired USB.
7
High performance:-
• At launch, Wireless USB will provide speeds up to 480 Mbps within 10 feet beyond will
be 110 Mbps , a performance comparable to the wired USB 2.0 standard
• High enough to provide wireless transfer of rich digital multimedia formats. As UWB
technology and process technologies evolve, bandwidth may exceed 1 Gb per second.
Simple, Low Cost Implementation:-
• Implementation will follow the wired USB connectivity models as closely as possible
to reduce development time and preserve the low-cost, ease-of-use model that has
made wired USB the interconnect of choice.
8
Backward compatibility : -
• Wireless USB will be fully backward compatible with the one billion wired USB
connections already in operation. Checking whether a devolved software is
compatibility with older version of other software .
• allows up to 127 devices to connect directly to a host. Because there are no wires or
ports, there is no longer a need for hubs.
• However, to facilitate the migration from wired to wireless, Sometimes referred to as a
"WUSB hub", allows existing USB 2.0 devices to be used wirelessly with a WUSB host.
9
Typical Home Applications
• PCs and peripherals
• PDAs
• External storage devices (HDDs)
• HDTV's and STB’s
• Game consoles
• Digital cameras
• Digital camcorders
• DVD players
• MP3 players
• CD players
• Wireless speakers
10
Typical Office Applications
• Laptop and notebooks computers
• Printers
• Scanners
• Projectors
• Mass storages devices (HDDs)
• PDAs
• Cell phones
11
Wi-Fi Wireless USB Adapters
• Essential for a high-quality Internet connection – WiFi
adapters are designed to offer the best connections
available. External Wi-Fi adapters commonly plug into
the USB port of a computer.
• These adapters are casually called "wireless USB"
although the protocol used for signalling is Wi-Fi.
• The network adapter allows the device to communicate
over the local area network (LAN), connecting to the
internet or to other computers. Wireless network
adapters, such as those on laptop computers and
tablets, take the computer's signals and convert them
into radio waves that transmit via antenna (visible or
hidden).
12
Other Wireless USB Technologies
Various wireless USB adapters also exist supporting alternatives to Wi-Fi:
• Bluetooth
• IrDA infrared
• Other proprietary signalling technology
13
SECURITY & DEVICE ASSOCIATION
• WUSB security will ensure the same level of security as wired USB.
• wireless interconnect is that it is easy to install and use.
• Higher levels of security involving encryption should be implemented at the
application level.
14
Advantage
• You can connect wirelessly.
• It is the easy and secure from plugging it in / unplugging it
• You do not need to have a network cable between the device and the network.
• You can connect fairly easily at home, work, multiple offices (since there is no
cable to carry around or leave behind).
• You can move around or work at any available or suitable location without having
to be near a socket.
15
DISADVANTAGES
• Unless the security is not properly setup, both your laptop or desktop and the
network you are connecting to cannot be compromised and your data can be
accessed and read by others.
• The hardware is small, it can get damaged, lost or stolen.
• Reception is limited by distance and concrete and natural structures between
you and the antenna (radio waves don't always propagate in a linear fashion in
building, they get blocked by steel or concrete structures).
• Some older wireless networks can get very slow if there are lots of people in
the same area, all trying to use the network (effectively trying to use the same
radio bandwidth). 16
