A fishbone diagram provides a structured way to identify and organize potential causes of a problem or effect. It displays causes and sub-causes in a visual format resembling the skeleton of a fish. Common categories used to classify causes include Man, Machine, Material, Method, Measurement, and Environment. To construct the diagram, the problem or effect is written in a box and main categories are connected to it by lines resembling bones. Potential causes are then brainstormed and written under the appropriate categories.
The Role of Fishbone Diagram in Analyzing Cause and EffectCIToolkit
A fishbone diagram is one of the various techniques available for conducting cause-and-effect analyses. It provides a structured way to identify and organize the potential causes contributing to a particular problem or effect. It allows the establishment and presentation of causal relationships in a straightforward and understandable format.

The company under study specializes in producing garment products. The production process of the company has so much waste, a long production time, a high cycle time, and a high defect rate, leading to low productivity, low quality, and late deliveries, affecting the competitive edge of the company. In this article we have discussed how Six Sigma can be applied to improve the company production process to reduce waste, the process production lead time, the cycle time, and the process defect rate and then to improve productivity and quality and finally increase the on-time delivery rate and the competitive edge of the company. The research methodology is based on Lean Six Sigma theory, with the platform of DMAIC procedure, including five steps: define, measure, analyze, improve, and control. The tools used in the steps of DMAIC procedure include cause and effect diagram, Pareto diagram, value stream management, work design, SMED, line balancing, Kanban systems, FIFO, autonomous maintenance, visual management, design of experiments, and control charts. After applying Lean Six Sigma tools, the company has reduced the production lead time by 89.21% from 279 to 30.1 min, reduced the production cycle time by 36% from 25 to 16 s, reduced the process defect rate by 37.45% from 14.9 to 9.32%, and then improved the on-time delivery rate.

Abstract- In this article the authors, based on the VisiMix Software, the experience of VisiMix users and personal knowledge from more than ten years of experience using VisiMix for API, Fine Chemicals and others, processes simulation, show a Method for Scale Down – Scale Up of Batch – Semi Batch operations built under Hydrodynamics study of the Mixing procedure in the reactor system. The use of the recommended method will offer the user the possibility to achieve the best results during production stage with saving among time and currency, and at the same time increasing the knowledge of the performed process. Chemical production is a result of several chemical reactions and purification steps. Purification steps and processes yield are a direct function of the level of understanding of the reaction system. Reaction quality results have a tremendous impact in separation technology.
Chemical production is frequently performed on stirred vessels that are operated at batch or semi-batch configuration. The choice process configuration is determined at the development stage of the project. Therefore, if the chemical reaction and mixing are not well understood, wrong selections will be adopted in the process development

The aim of the project is to reduce rejection level of needle roller bearing assembly using six sigma techniques. Six Sigma is a quality improvement tool for product. It reduces the defects, minimizes the variation and improves the capability of the manufacturing process. The main objective of Six Sigma is to increase the profit margin, improve financial condition through minimizing the defects rate of product. Further it increases the customer satisfaction, retention and produces the best class product from the best process performance. The needle roller bearing has more Lining Thickness Variation (LTV) defect and bearing Fits like loose fit and tight fit in the production line. The current rejection level of lining thickness variation defect is very high which leads to consumption of money in the form of rework and rejection of the job. The aim of the project is to identify the causes for various assembly defect and its remedies to reduce rejection level in needle roller bearing

Further Information
Be aware of adding causes which are actually solutions
The main idea behind the fishbone analysis is to brainstorm all possible
causes that may contribute to a problem, and not brainstorm solutions

Further Information
A cause-and-effect matrix can be used to prioritize the
causes of the problem
Prioritizing and selecting the key causes will minimizes the need for more

Further Information
A fishbone diagram can also be used to structure the
thoughts of a team
Sometimes it is useful to change the effect statement into the ideal
situation and ask the team to brainstorm what produces this ideal situation

Further Information
Sometimes it is useful to brainstorm out the ideas first
then organize them by category later
People sometimes tend to focus more on the categories than the
content and this slow down and restricts their thinking
