writing a letter to a friend in South Carolina explaining to
him to either yes attend or do not attend the convention.

quickly realize many of the delegates already have a
plan to write a new constitution…with that in mind
get with your delegation and prepare to create a new
set of laws to govern your state.
●Complete the reading about your specific delegate
●Complete your state’s “Bill of Proposal”

●Conduct convention debate with the states’
submitted proposals.
●Examine the New Jersey and Virginia Plans on pg.
116 & 117 and answer the following questions:
1. What were the key features of both plans?
2. What were disadvantages and advantages of
both?
3. The Great Compromise solved this problem, how
did it accomplish that feat? (Hint: pg. 119)
4. How does that compromise compare to the one
we came up with in our Mock Convention?

First Debate of Constitutional Convention

  • 1. ● In what ways were the delegates at the Philadelphia Convention representative of the American people? In what ways were they not representative? Challenge Question: You are representing New York at the convention and now writing a letter to a friend in South Carolina explaining to him to either yes attend or do not attend the convention.
