First Candle was founded in the 1960s as the national SIDS Foundation and later became known as First Candle in 2002, reflecting its broader mission to promote safe pregnancies and the survival of babies through their first years of life. It accomplishes this through research, education, and advocacy programs, with the goal of discovering new ways to help babies live longer and hopefully find a cure. First Candle also provides grief counseling to parents and believes success requires strategic partnerships and collaboration.
