Bill and Melinda Gates
foundation
Why they started this organisation?
 They believed everybody are just as precious as
your children, it is way past time to give the
hundreds of millions of people the chance to lead
a healthy and productive life.
 Bill Gates and Melinda Gates were raised knowing
it’s important to give back to the community.
 Both the Gates families instilled the values of
volunteerism and civic engagement. Their families
believed that if life happens to bless you, you
should use those gifts as well and as wisely as you
can.
How did they run the organisation?
Bill and Melinda team up with different
organisations and partners to focus on some
crucial issues that prevented people from making
the most part of their lives or extreme problems
around the world such as poverty and poor
health in developing countries.
For each issue they worked on, they would fund
innovative ideas that could help remove these
barriers that people have.
How they support the world
Financial services for the poor
 A US$35 million grant for the AFI supports an alliance of countries
from the developing world to create savings accounts, insurance, and
other financial services that are made available to people living on
less than $2 per day.
Agricultural development
 To support the increasing world demand for rice
.
Global Special Initiatives
 Currently, they are exploring water, hygiene, and sanitation as a new
focus within Global Development
Malaria
 Focus resources in areas where the problems could be identified significant leverage points,
and they assumed risks that are more challenging for others to take and malaria eradication.
HIV
 They wanted to support efforts to reduce the global incidence of HIV significantly and
sustainably, and to help people infected with HIV lead long, healthy, and productive lives.
Tuberculosis
 A new vaccine would provide the most effective way to decrease the incidence of TB, so their
top priority is to explore innovative and accelerated approaches to vaccine development.
In conclusion
 Lesson that could be learnt
 -We should help the needy to make them happier, less stress and have
more confidence in living.
 -Serving/helping others means sacrificing your time and money.
 Serve willingly instead of being asked by someone
