2. Failures Of Indira Gandhi
Week Ten: This weeks analysis on Indira Gandhi helped me unpack her successes
and failures. Some of the major failures that my group talked about was the forced
sterilization, state of emergency, religious divide, censorship and corruption. The
mass forced sterilization was ultimate failure in my eyes and as I talked about prior
a major human rights violation. Interestingly, Indira Gandhi had no gender policy
during her reign. One would think that a women politician would want to address so
many of the problems that plague women on a daily basis. If I was a women in India
during the time where Indira Gandhi came to power, I would have been devastated
that she was not interested in improving women s rights. Indira also reinforced the
religious divide within India, especially for the Sikhs. She ended up exacerbating
tensions in the region, which ultimately lead to her demise.
While she did have a lot of failures, this weeks class helped bring to light some of
her successes as well. Prior to this class I only really thought of her failures and
even during class my group had a hard time coming up with anything. I think her
lack of credentials and her short sidedness made her ill prepared to be a ruler.
Throughout this class I began to admire Nehru and his leadership of India; however,
with Indira I felt myself being angry and disappointed with her ruling style.
Rajiv Gandhi s rise to power was even more abrupt than his mothers. He was even
less qualified than his
3. The Foreign Policy Of The United States
Between 1918 and 1953 there was a major change regarding the foreign policy of
the United States. At the end of the First World War, we practiced a foreign policy
that was first established by George Washington in his Farewell Address back in
1796, which set a precedent of isolationism that was adopted until the beginning of
World War II. Following Washington s Neutrality Proclamation, the US did not
engage in many global affairs such as the French Revolution and remained neutral
through all foreign affairs. At the end of World War I
, we continued to practice
isolationism by not engaging in foreign affairs and limiting military spending
believing that by pursuing this policy we could maintain peace and avoid war.
Unfortunately, this... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As stated by Document B, many governmental employees, such as Senator Henry
Cabot Lodge Sr., believed that after World War I we should stay out of foreign
affairs such as the League of Nations. The League of Nations was an alliance system
similar to the one that was present before World War I; the prior alliance system
had ultimately played a role in the commencement of the war raising concern to
many citizens. This isolationist perspective was prompted by the large amount of
casualties and damages done from World War I, which led many to want to
disengage from Europe completely and work on rebuilding our own country. By
engaging in the League of Nations, as Woodrow Wilson had proposed, we would
have created a second alliance system and this was contradictory of itself as a
method of maintaining peace because the first alliance system was one of the key
components that led to World War I. His perspective on the foreign policy topic was
popular among the citizens, expanding the influences of isolationism. With this
expanding concept, the government employed numerous strategies to maintain the
peace. As displayed by Document A, one method that they employed was to reduce
military spending to an extreme minimum. As shown on the graph, the amount of
military spending spiked from 1918 1920, this was due to our participation in World
War I. Right after World War I, in the
4. Games of the Ancient Olympics Essay
Games of the Ancient Olympics
The Olympics began in ancient Olympia Greece, which lies 10km east of Pirgos,
in a valley between Mt. Kronos, the Alfios river, and the Kladeos. This area was
inhabited by the Pisans, whose King was Oinomaus. His daughter Hippodameia had
married Pelops, and it has been said that the first games were held in their honor
around 1000 B.C. Through the years the games began to attract interest in nearby
towns. In 776 B.C. , the leader of the Eleians, Iphitos, rededicated the games to the
honor of Zeus, (the most important god in the ancient Greek pantheon). As a result
of the religious nature of the games, all wars would cease during the contests. The
original games only consisted of one race, one day ... Show more content on

The pentathlon was said to be invented by Jason, who combined the five events and
awarded the first prize to a friend, Peleus, who placed second in everything except for
wrestling, which he placed first. The pentathlon was a combination of light events:
jumping, running, javelin and heavy events: discus and wrestling. While it remains
unknown how the decision of the winner was made, it is believed that the last two
winners confronted each other in wrestling, with the winner declared pentathlon
victor. Speed, strength, skill, and endurance are all qualities necessary to participate
in the pentathlon. A quote from Aristotle, The pentathletes are the best, because they
are naturally endowed with both strength and speed (Foundation of the Hellenic
World [FHW], 1). Boxing, added in 688 B.C., was first mentioned in Homeric poems,
and was held in honor of Patroclus. It is said that Apollo, who defeated and killed
Phorbus, was the inventor of the boxing event. The ancient boxing differed in many
ways from the modern boxing that we are used to. While having no time limit to the
fight, opponents fought until one raised his hand in defeat, or fell knocked out or
dead. An effective tactic of ancient boxing was positioning your opponent to face the
sun, blinding him with the glare. When a match would stalemate, the contestants had
the option of klimax, which meant both men stood still and allowed his opponent a
blow without making an attempt to avoid it. For

6. Leopold Mozart Essay
Leopold Mozart
The rain poured down hard, flooding the suburban streets of Vienna. Thunder roared
all around the funeral procession on December 6,
1791, as it laboriously headed for St. Marx Cemetery. As it reached the city walls of
Vienna, the few friends who had accompanied Mozart on his last journey turned
back, due to the unusually bad weather conditions. Such a scene is sadly appropriate
in representing the tragic end of Mozart who had begun his life with such
immeasurable promise. On
January 27, 1756, Leopold Mozart paced up and down the hall of his home in
Salzburg, Austria, in anticipation of the arrival of his seventh child. His wife, Anna
Maria, had given birth to a boy: Wolfgang. Wolfgang and his only other... Show more

After three years of monotony with an occasional commission, the twenty year old
musician had no more to hope for from life in the provinces and reached the
decision: he would leave Salzburg. Mozart felt he could breathe again as he set off
from Salzburg sure that his genius was about to be acknowledged by the world at
large. In 1777, Mozart traveled with his mother to
Mannheim, where he remained and composed, ignoring the looming financial
problems he was facing. In the meantime, he had fallen madly in love with the young
singer Aloysia
Weber. Leopold was aghast, Aloysia was the daughter of a lowly copyist and member
of the chorus at the court theater, this match seemed disastrous. Mozart s father
resorted to emotional blackmail to get him out of Mannheim and into
Paris where he could take on pupils. It seems that Mozart did pay heed and set off
with his mother for Paris on March
13, 1778. In Paris, everything seemed to be going well until
Anna Maria was struck down by a fever and fell into a coma. Her death on July 3rd
left Mozart grieving and in isolation. He reluctantly returned to Salzburg full of
dread, and was greeted by his father with these words: If your mother had come
back home from Mannheim, she would not have died... You would have got to Paris
at a better time... and my poor wife would still be (alive) in Salzburg.

7. Analysis Of Death On The Pale Horse
This paper is going to analyze the context within which the work of art, Death on the
Pale Horse was created. In addition, the paper will also discuss the medium that the
artist selected and highlight a number of the other fascinating aspects of this
Benjamin West painting.
Benjamin West first displayed his work of art in 1784 at the Royal Academyof Arts in
London, in conjunction with three different works that he had planned to paint. The
artist used oil on canvas as his final medium and the painting measures twenty three
by fifty inches. It is signed within the lower right corner B. West 1796 and is now
displayed at the Detroit Institute of Arts. Historians don t seem to be certain whether
or not the creator was in need of cash and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The style that West used is described best through his choice of colors that are very
warm, and thus, in all probability influenced other painters who were part of the
Romantic era of the Nineteenth Century. What is distinctive regarding this specific
painting is that it merges art with recreation. The theme is deep as a result of the
many things that are happening within the background and the foreground. As an
example, there are bodies with garments ripped of from the battle and a fallen horse at
the front center of the painting; however, the background also contains many winged
demons and murderers who ride in from some distant place.
As for the forms within the painting, they are realistic, and never flat. The horses
are spherical and appear to be very strong; the lion s claws are immense and tear
blood from the flesh of the person the lion attacks. The forms are well accomplished
and reinforce the drama of the scene, which the artist meant to depict. All of the
shapes are meant to be full to provide weight and seriousness to the piece. None of
the forms are lightweight or ethereal, even the clouds are giant and full. Most of the
figures have significant shadowing and strips of highlight to deepen the distinction
between the dark and lightweight colors.
With reference to the lines within the painting, every figure within the painting,
including all of the ghosts that float in from heaven, are well carved. The lines are
harsh
8. Persuasive Essay On Elephant
Many people aren t aware of how many elephants are killed each year by poachers.
These poachers want to kill elephants for their tusks which contain ivory. I believe
that elephants should not be poached for the ivory that their tusks contain. The
elephant population has decreased tremendously, and in 1997, only about 600,000
elephantswere left. Poachers are killing about 35,000 elephants every year, and this
should stop right away. Elephants are on the verge of becoming extinct. Knowing
this, some of you might be sad, while others might think that this has no effect on you
personally. Well, as a matter of fact, if they become extinct, it might have a bigger
effect on you then you would think. Actually, There is a stark correlation between...

10. Hester And Dimmesdale s Shame
Hawthorne artfully demonstrates the difference between external and internal
portrayals of shame and the consequences of both, by using the characters of Hester
Prynne and the Reverend Arthur Dimmesdale. By examining Hester and Dimmesdale
s way of dealing with the repercussions of their indiscretion and analyzing Benjamin
Kilborne s critique Shame Conflicts and Tragedies in The Scarlet Letter, one can see
if, or by what measure, if either Hester s or Dimmesdale s shame is worse than the
other. I believe Dimmesdale s internal battle with his shame is far worse than Hester
s outward shame because it is unbearable, as mentioned by Kilborne.
An interesting idea brought up by Kilborne is how both Hester and Dimmesdale
personify their sin. He questions why Dimmesdale is forced into seclusion from
shame as it reaches to the depths of his soul if Hester is able to embrace her sin and
shame and hold them up as realities. Before looking at this more closely, the way
people perceive shame is an important factor.
Kilborne mentions, In this context, shame can be a fundamental reaction to (and a
defense against) wrong feelings, or being helpless in the face of the intensity of
feelings, or being flooded by feelings one cannot understand. In addition to these
shameful ego ideal conflicts, the fear of the intensity of feelings itself generates
shame, which then produces defenses against shame as an affect whose intensity is
threatening.

There are many beautiful places around the world to live, choosing one is a very

where I will stay, even in America, though, there is such a variety of places to live.
Savannah, Georgia has caught my eye in many ways but I don t know if I could
ever leave small town Iowa, like Mason City. While considering these two places, I
know that there are a few things that I have to keep in mind such as the job outlook,
cost of living, things to do, and one of the most important, weather. Mason City, Iowa

Mason City seems the safer route with my family being close by and it having a

was a girl. On page 53 it states Women were not allowed to go into the shops. Men
were supposed to do all the shopping. This proves that parvana was not allowed to
get the shopping done because mean were the only ones allowed to do the

could not go out without a man she did anyway. Lastly, she waited for her father.
The text states, What about Father? What will happen if he gets out of prison and
we re not here? He won t know where to look for us! This proves that Parvana will

13. Media Effects On Body Image
When looking into the mirror at oneself, what imperfections come to mind? Often
times answers are given that a person believes they are overweight, not beautiful
enough, or that their clothing is unappealing. Most people have at least one thing
they wish they could improve about themselves and some work very hard to
change it. It is understandable to work at improving one s self image and it can
help a person learn a lot about themselves. By leaving room for improvement open
for oneself, a person becomes more willing to do so in more aspects of their life.

often times leads to images that are very unreliable and unrealistic. But sadly these
are the types of media that lends viewers to problems loving themselves. The
regulation of content available on the worldwide web is not very strong but should

opportunities to expand. When you are devising or revising your bookkeeping
routine, remember that the purpose of bookkeeping is to help you manage your

your bookkeeping achieves both of these objectives, it can and should be as simple

Keep a log of each category of expense, for tax purposes and write yourself a check
for the total. Write cash reimbursable in your check register to differentiate this
from taxable income. Alternatively, you can keep a petty cash record by writing a
check to petty cash and keeping a log of each expense paid out of petty cash.
Inventory Records
Keeping on top of your inventory records will enable you to prevent pilferage, keep
inventory holdings to a minimum, and track buying trends, among other things.
If you sell a large number of small ticket items for example, as in a stationary store
you might want to use a computer system to track inventory or tie your computer
system into your sales by having a POS (point of sale) inventory system. If you sell
larger ticket items you may be able to do it yourself on paper.
The crucial inventory information you need to capture is: date purchased, stock
number of item purchased, purchase price, date sold, and sale price.
Accounts Receivable
If your products or services are paid for at time of delivery, you will not need an
accounts receivable tracking system. However, if you provide services or products
for which people pay you at a later date, your accounts receivable records keep track
of what is owed to you. You can monitor accounts receivable by holding on to a
copy of all invoices sent out or by keeping an accounts receivable record. Either way,
the information you need to capture includes: invoice date,

Proximity can be defined as nearness in space, time, or relationship. There are
many terms and or phrases used to describe proximity such as personal space, soul
space, bubble, comfort zone, too close for comfort, grill, invasion of privacy, etc.
In this assignment we were asked to invade a stranger s personal space and record
their reaction to this event. I went to a neighborhood Starbucks and proceeded to
invade the personal space of a stranger sitting at a table with his laptop. I also tried
talking within close proximity of someone just to see their reaction, but the results
of the Starbucks experiment brought about greater output. After church on Sunday,
November 22, 2015 at 2:16pm I walked into the Starbucks located at 1830 N

triple shot of espresso with 3 raw sugars, and a tall cup of ice with splash of soy
milk. Once I received my order I walked to the condiments table near the door and
began to mix my drink. I stirred the sugar into the espresso and then poured it over
the cup of iced soy milk. There was a man who appeared to be of Caucasian decent
sitting alone at one of the tables, he was on his laptop with his cup next to him and
a notebook. He was so wrapped up in his work that he didn t even notice me

The dead bodies that carried highly contagious diseases, such as smallpox and

Usage of biological weapon reached its height during the 19th century world wars,
as agents were used in all criminal, terrorist, or state sponsored events (Anderson
20). Sprouted from the world wars, biological research programs for both offensive

New York City (Fong vii). Throughout history, biological warfare has played a
significant role, as biological weapons, deliberately or inadvertently, in restricted and

Advantages of biological weapons are that they are effective in spreading the
disease, highly toxic, inexpensive, and cultivated in a short period of time. Due to
the detrimental effects of biological weapon, the army faced with these weapons
would be easily disarmed. However, biological weapons prove difficult to store and
deliver without unintentionally releasing them (Hurlbert 6). Therefore, innocent

customs, topography, and other features to a specific region. Regionalism
incorporates the broader concept of sectional differences yet lacks nostalgia or

empathetic response by the readers yet begin to reject their bleak fate that appears
inevitable. Among the many hypotheses that have been put forward about this short
story, one of the most striking is the one propounded by Margaret D. Baier, who
argued that Armand Aubigny had been aware of his own black heritage all his life
and that his marriage to Desiree was part of a plan to have legitimate children that
would pass for white, as he himself was passing (Gibert 3). Chopin s text would have
reinforced the prevalent negative feelings towards racial differences. Desiree s baby

Chopin short story The Storm , gives obvious examples of regionalism. The Storm,

Introduction
Franz Cumont s introduction in Astrology and Religion Among The Greek and
Romans, the Dover 1960 edition of the unabridged and unaltered original work
published, by G P Putnam in 1912, is aimed at the general historical and
theological audience.
On reading Franz Cumont introduction it is obvious he is scathing in his comments
towards the practise of astrology. Along with his contempt of the continuing growth
in the belief of astrology and how, throughout humankind, intellects, academics and
ordinary folk continue to show interest in it.1 It will be argued that Franz Cumont is
outdated with his thoughts on the decline of astrology. He makes reference to the
scientific discovery of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was difficult, but it was not impossible. 4 Therefore
showing how Cumont s comment; that the planets and their influences made no
sense or difference to humanity after this new scientific discovery, can be considered
as outdated.
Nicholas Campion, author of Prophecy, Cosmology And The new Age Movement:
The Extent and Nature of Contemporary Belief In Astrology , also argues against this
theory of the decline of astrology by explaining Patrick Curry s distinction of a three
tiered astrology in Power and Prophecy. A high variety of astrology for the
academics and Philosophers, a middling astrology based on horoscopes cast for
individual clients and a third the low form of astrology mainly mass produced
chronicles. Campion suggests that Curry demonstrated that only the high form of
astrology declined and the middling astrology dwindled in isolated cases, whereas,
20. the low form of astrology continued to grow.5 Illustrating once again that astrology
did not necessarily decline or die with the scientific discovery of the heliocentric
theory as Cumont suggests.
Cumont continues to show his contempt for ancient astrological roots by suggesting
that astral mathematics had been wrapped up in ancient primal superstitions and he is
astonished it could be linked with intellectual
21. Environmental Concerns And Climate Change
Proposed Research
Environmental concerns and climate change are influencing and shaping the future
of the power industry. As a result, the electricity required to meet the growing
demand is mainly generated from renewable energy resources, and this trend is
expected to continue in the next decades [1]. Hydro and wind are major renewable
energy resources and are free of greenhouse gas emissions [2]. This makes them
valuable environmentally sustainable and economic resources for power generation
around the world. A hydro wind hybrid power system is an excellent combination for
improved reliability, where the resources abound [3]. In Newfoundland and Labrador,
there is enormous potential for hydro and wind renewable energy resources, with ...

This condition imposes unique challenges on the planning and operation of a hydro
wind integrated power system in a reliable manner [8]. Previous studies on wind
penetration issues and solutions found that the limiting factors of wind integration
include penetration level, forecasting reliability, geographic diversity, hydro
generation flexibility and control of the overall system [6]. Control is a key
enabling factor for the deployment of renewable energy systems [9]. Control
techniques such as linear and dynamic programming, genetic algorithms, and neural
networks, proposed by past research, for the control and economic dispatch of
renewable energy systems, have not been acknowledged to be error free [3]. Two
major flaws identified in existing techniques include the lack of ease of use, and
adaptability to new situations and evolving regulations [3]. These flaws pose major
operational challenges to utilities and thus, make control technologies optimization
an imperative research endeavor.
In 1998, the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) Policy 1
Generation Control and Performance Standard (CPS) was enforced to ensure
effective frequency control in interconnected power systems. In this policy, for
example, it is required that each balancing authority shall achieve, as a minimum,
CPS1 compliance of 100% (a measure of the correlation between a

In the final scene, Bob is in a taxi on his way to the airport when he spots a blonde
woman in the crowd walking by. He immediately recognizes her as Charlotte and
without hesitation, leaves his taxi and runs after her. The loud bustling city is most
noticeable at this point in the film, as Bob approaches Charlotte. But as they share an
intense gaze, the noisy city is muted and all focus is on them. Bob breaks the guard
he has put up the entire trip to embrace her and intimately stroke her hair. Charlotte
returns the intimacy, burying her head in his shoulder. The tenderness that they tried
so hard to conceal, is finally out in the open. This scene is extremely close up with
their bodies inhabiting almost the whole frame with exception to the
23. Dehumanization In The Island Of Dr. Moreau
Dehumanization
In the book Civil War Stories the author Ambrose Bierce wrote about fictional war
stories based on his time in the Army. In all of the stories there is usually
dehumanization and almost always a plot twist at the end. In the book The Island of
Doctor Moreau there is a mad scientist who lives on an island trying to create the
perfect beast person. Dr. Moreau dehumanizes a lot in this book in many ways such
as performing horrific surgery on animals. Dehumanization is when you treat
someone like they re not a human, making them seem like they re not worthy of
human treatment. That is what the book Civil War Stories and The Island of Dr.
Moreau is about and what dehumanization is. One of the stories in the book Civil

This story is told by a third person narrator. In this story a young boy who is deaf
and mute wanders off alone while playing war against fake people. After his fake
war was over he encountered an animal, it was a rabbit. He got so scared he ran,
jumped in between two rocks and cried himself to sleep. After a few hours passed
he woke up and could feel the chills of the night. He walked to an opening in the
area and saw a figure that seemed to be a large animal. He thought it might be a
dog or a pig, maybe even a bear, but he could not name it. They were men, they
were soldiers. They did nothing like humans would do. They crawled, they only
used their knees and not their arms. Some layed motionless, they were dead.
Nothing at all about them was human. He thought they were like his father s slaves
that he had ridden before making believe they were his horses. He got on top of
one of the men and immediately the man flung him off. The man turned and
lacked a jaw. His throat was a big red gap with flesh hanging down. The man shook
his fist at the child finally making him run away. Then a fire beyond the belt of the
woods suffused the whole landscape. On the boys way back he realized the fire
was burning down his own home. A woman lay dead in the house her forehead
ripped off and her brain stood out of her temple. In this story it shows
dehumanization when the boy rides the soldier like he is an animal. That

Why is it an academic source: This journal is a peer reviewed journal and was
published by The Johns Hopkins University Press and the Society for the History of
Technology, therefore it is an academic source.
Why is it useful: Looks at the historical development of photography since it became
popular. Also follows the journey of George Eastman(who created the concept of
using rolls of film) who was a amateur for three years before he entered the
photography business, allows us to have an insight on how he transitioned between
these two realms of photography. Also interesting to look at how through Eastman s
invention he has created the public to be apart of photography and make it a mass
media product. Eastman made the key conceptual change in who was to predominate
in the practice of photography from the professional to the novice (Jenkins, 1975).

25. The History Of Dragons
It s often for one to be confused about the mythical creature that was (and still is)
depicted in art forms. No one is certain of this creature, and it s hard to make
theories on them. The dragon is still a relevant topic to this day and is often said to
be seen. People try to connect the dragon to creatures in our current world. Dragons
were used to depict man s fear in animals, but to understand the relations of dragons to
present day reality a person must know how others interpret them with theories.
In ancient times, dragons were told by man in different ways. This would normally
vary depending on religion. Dragons were shown with physical features of animals
that were feared in the common man. Some were depicted with lion heads, serpent ...

In this case, the dragon is a subject to theories. It wasn t until 1841 that English
scientist Richard Owens suggested that the group of newly discovered animals be
called dinosaurs, which literally means terrible lizards. Throughout the next few
decades, the first artist depictions of dinosaurs were actually comical when
compared to what we can scientifically discern today. How then, do pottery, linens,
cave paintings, and written descriptions of dragons from 2,000 to 4,000 years ago
depict dinosaurs better than what science could muster in the mid 1800 s?
(History of Dragons). Scientist might be able to prove the existence of dragons to
be false, but their reality in our modern day life is real. Lizards such a the komodo
dragon are an example. As said, they grow to be very large. In fact, many people to
this day believe that the dragons still exists. The belief in dragons was based not
just in legend but also in hard evidence or so it seemed. For millennia no one knew
what to make of the giant bones that were occasionally unearthed around the globe,
and dragons seemed a logical choice for people who had no knowledge of dinosaurs.
(Radford 4). However, it will take some looking to find solid proof of dragons, that
doesn t mean they do or do not exist. Many people have their own beliefs on what
they do and don t
26. Margaret Atwood Film Techniques
Costume Design is one of the most important factors in the filmmaking process. A
single piece of clothing can change the audiences perception of a character.
Contemporary films use costume design in a way to create a realistic and familiar
setting, while period dramas or films from another time use it as a way to shape a
character. Throughout the years, the approach to costume design has evolved but the
heart of it has never wavered. Films are affected greatly by the use of clothingand
costume design, leaving a great responsibility on the shoulders of the designer.

had 8 looks resulting in around 20 hand made looks due to the need for multiples in
case of damage. Alice also allowed Atwood to create virtual costumes as well with

world of fantasy was intriguing to Atwood and led to beautiful results. (Gallagher
27. How Music Affects Society
Traditional, culture, and identity how can music affect human life?
I chose this topic because music is a history, a culture and everything. Music is a
very important role in our daily life. Maybe most of the people wouldn t know it or
feel it but without music everything would have changed. Music have been a big part
of our lives, most of the culture has music. So can music change the world or the
world will change music?
Not all music are good to the society I am not saying that all music are bad, The
generation these days in music like pop and rap the music is good but some of the
lyrics in the music are using inappropriate language, sexually, and negative behavior.
Many people nowadays are having parties, and apparently in these party music are
been played which is used as aggressive music. So will these consequences change
the world or the music?

loud at night and many people are complaining about it. Apparently in the United

music repair everything, even when I cant sleep at night music make me sleep well.

even animals make music by their own language and by adapting to

If we want to make changes in our Lives, then we will have to look at the causes
and the way we are using our minds, the way we are thinking. For, No two things
can occupy the same space at the same time. You can t have a positive thought hold
on to the negative one. Choose one. ~Louise Hay. We all have the will and heart,
the courage and braveness to let go of the past and to learn from it, and not to
dwell in it. So, after all how can something, be both positive and Negative at the
same time. Well in a very simple way of putting it, an event can be both positive and
negative at the same time. It all comes down on what perspectiveyou are seeing the
event from. For, different perspectives can show us stories in a whole other way and
in a whole new light. During the book Tale of Two Cities written by Charles Dickens,
you could see this view in many different ways. First, you could see how Carton
spend a lot of time criticizing himself and imagining that he would never be able to
change. This caused him to not even try and to just live life, in a sad state. Next,
sacrifice can be positive and it usually means to have new beginnings. On the other
hand, you are usually losing something dear to you, which hurts you for the rest of
your life. That is why, no one should dwell in the past, but learn from it and move
on. Lastly, courage could be a positive and at the same time a negative aspect. It all
depends on our own personal perspective, or viewpoint.

30. An Unknown Grignard Reagent Experiment Essay
Grignard
5. Introduction In this experiment, an unknown Grignard reagent was prepared from
an aryl halide. The unknown reagent was then reacted with carbon dioxide to form a
carboxylic acid. The solid acid was then isolated and recrystallized before the melting
point was taken. The precipitate was then dissolved in water and titrated to determine
the molecular weight. The melting point and molecular weight were then used to
determine the unknown acid obtained from the experiment.
6. Data and Results The product obtained had a melting point of approximately 107
В°C and a weight of .324 grams. Some of the product would not dissolve in water and
so was removed through vacuum filtration, which left .141 g not dissolved in
solution. It took 13.2 mL of sodium hydroxide to turn the solution of the product
dissolved in water pink. A molecular weight of 138.63 g/mol was calculated from the
data. These results indicate that the product was 2 methylbenzoic acid, the Grignard
reagent was 2 methylphenylmagnesium bromide, and the unknown bromide solution
was 2 methylbromobenzene. Calculations showed that the limiting reagent of the
Grignard preparation was magnesium and that the experiment had a 23.13 % yield. 7.
Discussion and Conclusion Organometallic compounds, such as Grignard reagents,
are molecules containing carbon metal bonds and are often used to create new carbon
carbon bonds. Grignard reagents or organomagnesims are specifically those that have
a carbon magnesium bond.
31. Alan Paton s Cry, The Beloved The Country
History is known to repeat itself, as evidence by the many groups that have suffered
racial and ethnic discrimination. Hitler created prejudice against the Jews during
World War II. Southerners discriminated against the Blacks, leading up to the Civil
War, and during the Apartheid, the Natives were segregated from the Whites. In Alan
Patons Cry, the Beloved the Country, the main character Stephen Kumalo goes
through a journey to restore his tribe. During his journey, he discovers and learns of
the injustices in South Africa. Through the parallels and contradictions of biblical
allusions, Alan Paton is able to explain the impact of racial inequality in South Africa,
but signifies how unconditional love and hope can be used to overcome fear and
bring restoration to both the land and it s inhabitants.
Arthur s allusion represents the overall battle of good versus evil and the fight for
equality. King Arthur and Arthur Jarvis were well liked, and respected by the
people. Paton states the church had been too small for all who wanted to come
(181), and this is the ultimate representation of the respect that Arthur receives.
King Arthur had the Knights of the Round Table where everyone at the table was
seen as the same, while Arthur Jarvis wishes for sameness of both races and his
death is seen as a major tragedy. The reader is able to learn about what many
characters think of him in the aftermath of his death, this is a terrible loss for South
Africa said the white priest.
32. Eileen Fisher
In the future, Eileen Fisher needs to make sure they deliver a consistent message,
even if they are attracting customers from other segments the focus needs to be on
keeping the Eileen brand consistent.
My recommendation for the future of the Eileen Fisher brand is that they need to
focus on keeping the Established segment engaged with the brand and grow their
customer base by positioning the brand to attract women from the emerging segment.
They can accomplish this by positioning the brand as a brand for successful women a
brand that denotes accomplishment and that signifies that they ve reached major
milestones in their life. They also need to launch brand extensions and launch lines
of shoes, bags and accessories to bridge the gap between ... Show more content on

But for new customers, the new brand extensions will be essential to be able to offer
a competitive product offering that will attract them to the brand. Therefore, we can
avoid conflict between both segments by letting them choose the products they want
depending in their needs.
Another problem could be communication, how are they going to communicate the
message to both segments. The general message will be based on this idea of the
successful woman with focus on the traditional clothing line and slight emphasis on
the accessories. More specific campaigns targeted in social media, publications or
events will be more specifically targeted to one of the segments, with those aimed at
the Nascent segment focusing more on the versatility and accessories and those
targeting the Established segment more centered on the traditional clothing

One of the primary motivations for adopting the four day week is financial savings
for the school district. Anticipated savings are in transportation, food and food
service workers, hourly workers and utilities. Savings on school buses and long term
building wear and tear have also been reported. After analyzing Colorado schools
operating on four day schoolweeks, (Dam) reports that transportation costs can be
reduced by 20%. He goes on to say that in order to realize that level of savings,
schools must severely limit transportation for activities or programs not conducted on
regular school days. The capital, insurance, maintenance, and administrative costs

Researchers examined scores across the same group of students for four years, and

studies were also conducted in school districts in New Mexico, Idaho and South

the impact of a four day school week on student learning is scarce. Officials in
various states claim that comparisons and conclusions are difficult to make. There
has been no broad analysis of crucial test scores on statewide achievement tests or
college entrance exams to show whether there are knowledge gaps or not for
students in four day districts (Herring, 2010). In a recent newspaper article

Module 5: Final Paper: Current Issues Healthcare costs in the United States are
soaring. To stop this cost inflation, healthcare organizations are being pushed to
decrease those costs. Simultaneously, healthcare organizations are being pushed to
increase quality. To motivate healthcare organizations to increase quality, the federal
government has issued an enormous amount of new regulations and has decreased
reimbursement when quality standards are not met. Thus, healthcare organizations
must find a way to increase quality of care while decreasing costs. The newest wave
of regulations from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) have
created an enormous financial burden on healthcare organizations. Just one section...

For long term care facilities specifically, CMS estimates that the burden of the new
regulations will cost an average of $69,000 to implement and cost $55,000 annually
each subsequent year (Moldawer Paolillo, 2016). Healthcare leaders are tasked with
finding the resources to become compliant despite the lack of reimbursement for
implementation. Solutions and Recommendations Services must be coordinated, care
must be patient and resident centered, and outcome driven. This is no different when
striving to meet emergency preparedness regulations. Healthcare technology can
create efficiency in workflow, as well as, assist with tracking and analyzing data.
Efficiency can be created by decreasing the steps staff take to get supplies, move
patients and residents, and provide cares. This may be done by moving where
supplies are kept, moving the location of services being provided, or creating ease for
staff while they are providing cares. To achieve efficiency, the right staff, the right
supplies, and the right data must all come together at the right time (Brennan,
Oelschlaeger, Cox, Tavenner, 2014). In addition, leadership efficiency is vital.
Manual data gathering and analyzing must be replaced with technology generated
information. Frequent, non productive meetings must be canceled. Leaders need to

unable to discuss the client s care, but I would be glad to relay information to the
client in case he is concerned. The next opportunity that I have, I would provide
information to the client about the nicotine patches and why he is unable to use
them at this time, just in case he and the housekeeper has had a conversation about
it. At that time if he wants to relay the information to the housekeeper he can do so.
Nicotine replacement therapy is not generally recommended for pregnant women
and persons who have experienced an acute myocardial infarction within 2 weeks,
have unstable angina, or have life threatening dysrhythmias. (Lewis, Dirksen,
Heitkemper, Bucher, Camera, 2011, p. 170) 12. If the patch were to be used later
to help him quit smoking, how would it be dosed for him? The nicotine
replacement would be dosed high and would taper off over a longer period of time
(patches 8 wks or more) to help with craving and withdrawal. The patch allows for
a slower delivery of the drug and elimination of the carcinogens and gases associated
with tobacco smoke. (Lewis, Dirksen, Heitkemper, Bucher, Camera, 2011, p. 170)

39. Similarities Between Blanche Dubois And Stella Kowalski
Being very different and not share the same character traits are usual but anyone
would find when observing the dissimilarities among the main characters of the
movie A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams that people are not same.
The movie s main female characters are Blanche Dubois and Stella Kowalski. These
sisters are very dissimilar in countless ways, from their behavior, and approach, to
their views regarding the action of women. Although, they matured up together and
were raised by the same people. Their relationship is a major example of just how
different two people can be.
The opening of these sister s differences appears to divide the changes in
personalities. Stella is actually a relaxed person for the most of the times,
40. Comparing Thoreau s Views On Philosophy And Religion
Thoreau said, Most men lead lives of quiet desperation and go to the grave with the
song still in them ? As a Christian, I think Thoreau recognized the spiritual truth of
Romans 8:26, that says, men have groanings too deep for words. I feel sure most
people experience these deep inner struggles. These are spiritual struggles that
cannot be easily expressed in words but are more easily pondered in the spirit and in
the heart. Throughout the ages, man has always wondered WHY? What is the
meaning of life? What is my purpose? That is the reason we have things like
philosophy and religion.
Philosophy and religion are both attempts to answer, WHY? Most of us have this
inner yearning for something more. Thoreau and Emerson (as well as many other
transcendentalists) believed that organized religion and political parties corrupted the
purity of individuals. Therefore, many transcendentalists (Thoreau, Emerson, Muir,
etc.) sought solitude as a refuge so they could truly experience life and spirituality
free from the trappings of organized religion or political parties. ... Show more

The simple man may be content with just his basic needs food, water, and shelter.
However, most of us want and have a desperate desire for more. Thoreau believed
that many people waste their lives on the temporary things like food, fun, and trivial
pursuits. If Thoreau thought things were bad in his day he should see us now?
Almost everyone I know has fallen into this trap of chasing the next latest fad or
gadget. How many of you were eagerly awaiting the launch of Iphone 6? In my
opinion, Thoreau was exactly right. We waste ourselves on things that do not matter
(cars, clothes, celebrity gossip, tv, MTV, etc.) usually at the expense of things that do
matter (our families, our planet, our
41. Selection And Justification Of The Optimum Marine Cable...
Selection and justification of the optimum marine cable route between Rathlin Island
and Ballycastle
EGM 310
Matthew McKenna
Introduction.
Rathlin Island located just off the North coast of Northern Ireland (NI) has been
selected as a suitable location for the Government to place a new windfarm. As the
Government tries to move away from non renewable energy sources this proposal for
the windfarm will provide electricity to the towns of County Antrim. The Northern
Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA) are concerned that the marine cable route
should have as little impact on the natural and cultural environments, this is because
the EU believes that the natural and cultural environments and the heritage they
contain are an important resource for economic growth and employment (European
Commissions, 2016). As such have assigned the task of identifying a suitable low
impact route for the cable from Church Bay (Rathlin Island) to Ballycastle (Co.
Antrim).
To produce a marine cable that has a minimum impact on the natural and cultural
environment the NIEA has given several guidelines that need to be followed.
The cable must:
1.Be trenched and re filled at a depth of 2m, this means as much bedrock should be
avoided as this will be a costly and timely process.
2.Avoid all shipwrecks
3.Avoid all slopes that exceed angles of 40В°
4.Avoid all mobile substrates exceeding mean spring flows of 50cm/s

In order to identify and justify the optimum route for the marine
42. Harold Crick s Views In Stranger Than Fiction
An important theme that is shown throughout the film, Stranger than Fiction,
directed by Marc Forster, is the power of growth and the ideological behavior of
changing one s views. People cannot determine or dictate their fate, however one can
decipher how he or she responds to a given situation. Only once Harold finally
accepts the fact his future is not controlled by him or his watch, only by fate, does he
realize true happiness and freedom are in the palms of his hands. This is a story
about a man named Harold Crick and his wristwatch. Harold Crick was a man of
infinite numbers, endless calculations, and remarkably few words. And his
wristwatch said even less (Stranger than Fiction). Throughout the film Harold s life
is controlled by his wrist watch, ultimately always relying on the function of his
watch to guide him in life with every decision he makes. This is symbolic because
it represents the obsessive characteristics Harold possesses. For example, Harold s
wrist watch is designed with several alarms throughout his day dictating each and
every one of his actions, eventually causing him to fall into a routine which he isn t
necessarily too... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Later that day while visiting Ana, he silently picks up her guitar while she s in the
other room after they briefly discuss one s ability to play. Harold soon starts
playing the song, Whole Wide World. This scene is important to the film because it
expresses Harold s capability to break down the multiple walls he has created by
allowing someone else in. Ana is immediately swept away, and she falls into his
arms leading into an intense passionate first kiss. No longer is Harold dressed to
the nines by wearing a suit, he s wearing casual attire consisting of a plain red
sweater; which may resemble the beginning of love shared between two
43. Kohler Company
Kohler Co.
Summary:
Kohler is one of the largest and oldest privately held companies in America. It started
by manufacturing plumbing fixtures, famously inventing the first modern bathtub,
and soon after began manufacturing small engines and generators. Today the
company is also in the furniture and luxury resort business. Most of the company s
shares are held by members of the Kohler family, however 4% of the outstanding
stock is owned by outsiders. Herbert Kohler Jr., the CEO and Chairman of Kohler,
would like to do what he can to keep Kohler stock within the Kohler family and its
interests. This led to the 1998 recapitalization. In this restructuring of equity, family
members and permitted transferees (Kohler Trusts, Kohler ... Show more content on

Analysis: Much of the share price was driven by the speculation that Kohler might
soon go public. Herbert thought this was the primary reason the shares were
extremely overvalued. However, the assumption of a future IPO was inaccurate.
One of the core values and strengths of Kohler is the private classification of equity.
Kohler considers it a competitive advantage to not have to disclose its financial
position to the public. Not only does it give away proprietary information to
competitors, but public reporting also affects the way a company can make
decisions. Kohler feels that many of the business decisions that made Kohler a
success, such as investing in cast iron production at a time when the industry was
moving away from it, would not have been possible if they were accountable to
pubic shareholders. Without the possibility of an IPO a lower share price than
what share prices recently traded for was could be justified. However, Herbert
must also consider the effects of having the valuation be determined in court. The
first drawback to this is how costly legal proceedings are. On top of lawyer fees and
court costs, it could be very expensive to reconcile and audit all financial documents
as well as pay for expert opinions concerning the valuation. Since there is no
standard or correct metric to value a company, there is increased risk as to how the
court will
44. Donald Trump s Building A Wall Across The Entire Border...
While there may be some truth to parts of Donald Trump s claims, such as the
costs that have been incurred, but his overall plan is quite radical. The idea of
building a wall across the entire southeastern border is extremely radical in itself.
Trump compares the simplicity of such a wall to the 95 story skyscrapers he has
built. Ali F. Rhuzkan has tackled the topic of the reality of a President Trump
building a wall across the entire Mexican American border in his article on the
National Memo. Rhuzkan claims that the main problems with Trump s proposed
wall are not technical problems, but logistical ones. Rhuzkan points out that
Trump s border wall, if built as he has described it, would be one of the largest civil
works projects in the history of the country and would face an array of challenges
not found when constructing 95 story skyscrapers (Rhuzkan). Rhuzkan also points
out what Trump s wall would need in order to be functionally effective and also cost
effective. A successful border wall must be effective, cheap, and easily maintained. It
should be built from readily available materials and should take advantage of the
capabilities of the existing labor force. The wall should reach about five feet
underground to deter tunneling, and should terminate about 20 feet above grade to
deter climbing (Rhuzkan). Unlike Donald Trumps wall, Ted Cruz s idea for
technologically supported fencing would be far more cost effective, easier to
assemble, and could also be

Lance Welsh Case 1 (Delta s New Song) Accounting 581 Professor Thornock Case
Study Questions 1. Q.Identify several possible drivers of salary costs for use in
estimating a salary cost function. Using one of these cost drivers, apply the High
Low technique to estimate the salary cost function for the Delta Airlines. What
driver did you select and why? How would Delta use this function to forecast
costs? What are the advantages of this technique? The disadvantages? A. Some of
the possible drivers of salary cost are Number or Departures, Revenue Ton Miles,
Revenue Miles scheduled, Revenue passenger miles and there are countless more
you could use. High low method for revenue Ton Miles (High 2,369, low 1,580) by...

Again, this method only uses one variable but shows us the best variable to use. If
we use multiple regression models we would be able to get a more accurate result.
3.The three drivers I chose were 1.) available Ton miles 2.) Number of Departures
3.)Revenue Passengers Miles These three drivers had the best R square values and
that is why I chose them. This method is a considerable upgrade from all of the
other methods and gives us the best available outcome. This outcome takes
multiple variables and combines them into one equation. The multiple regressions
R square(.8615) is higher than the single regression so there is some conflict with
the method. 4. For the questions 1 3 we found out a couple different cost functions
that could be useful for Delta when predicting salaries for 2003 and 2004. The
multiple regressions may be most reliable considering it uses multiple variables,
but the single R square is better than multiple regressions. 5. I used the Average
Ton Miles as well for Jet Blue because it had the lowest R square for the previous
example. (202,610 60,246)/(49 16)=142,364,000/33,000,000= 4.314. This doesn t
tell us a lot in direct correlation because it only takes one variable and it takes the
two extremes of that variable. 6. I think It reasonable to assume that Delta can expect
right around 24(number in thousands) for revenue passengers emplaned in the
46. Identify the Current Legislation, Guidelines, Policies and...
Identify the current legislation, guidelines, policies and procedures for safeguarding
the welfare of children and young people.
These are as follows:
Children s act 1098/2004
Education act 2002
E safety 2008
Safeguarding
Human rights act.
And many more.
The following is an outline of current legislation, guidelines, policies and procedures
within the UK Home Nation for Safeguarding Children.
The United Nations Convention on the rights of a child 1989 was approved by the
UK on the 16th December 1991, this includes:
Children s rights to protection from abuse.
The rights to express their views and to be listened too.
The right to care

The act is important because it stresses the importance of putting the child first.
The acts states:
What is best for the child must always be first consideration
Whenever possible children should be brought up in their own families
Unless the child is at risk of harm, a child should not be taken from their family
without family s agreement
Local authorities must help families with children in need
Local authorities must work with parents and children
Courts must put children first when making decisions
Children being looked after by the local authorities have rights, as do their parents.
Children s act 2004
Lord lemmings report on the death of Victoria Climbie brought into force the
children act 2004 which requires all local authorities across England and Wales to
set up a local safeguarding children board. This states that each area should promote
and safeguard the welfare of children and young people. LSCB replaced the Area
Child Protection Committees and stated all agencies should work together to protect
children. An assessment is carried out annually to make sure all agencies are
working to promote safeguarding and welfare of children. EVERY CHILD
MATTERS.
All adults wanting to work with children whether it is paid or voluntary must be
checked, commonly known has having a criminal record check which is only done
by criminals record bureau.
