Sensex advances 109 points on fresh buying activities

Following a weak start, Indian indices recovered to trade in green zone in early deals. After trading volatile for some 
time, markets spurted on fresh buying activities to recuperate some losses of previous sessions. Both barometer 
gauges added 0.4% ahead of the Diwali week. 
The S&P BSE Sensex ended at 26108.53, up 109.19 points or 0.42%. The 30 share index touched a high and a low 
of 26248.54 and 25910.77 respectively. 21 stocks advanced against 9 declining ones on the benchmark index. 
The CNX Nifty gained 31.50 points or 0.41% to settle at 7779.70. The index touched high and low of 7819.20 and 
7723.85 respectively. 38 stocks advanced against 11 declining ones on the index. 
T h e market breadth on the BSE closed in negative. Advancing and declining stocks were 1413 and 1565 
respectively, while 131 scrips remained unmoved. 
S&P BSE Sensex CNX Nifty 
The S&P BSE Mid-cap index moved up to 9272.49 and gained 0.31% while S&P BSE Small-cap index hammered 
down by 0.28% to 10313.97. 
The broader S&P BSE 500 index increased to 9919.11 (up 0.42%) and CNX 500 index rose to 6255.15 (up 0.48%). 
The volatility as denoted by INDIA VIX lost 0.18% at 16.40 from its previous close of 16.43 on Thursday. 
Among global peers. US markets ended up on Bullard statement that the Federal Reserve should consider 
extending its bond-buying program beyond October to see how the US economic outlook evolves. European markets 
also traded in green zone whereas Asian markets were exhibiting mixed trades. 
Sectors in action 
On the BSE Sectorial front, Banks (up 2.46%), Capital Goods (up 1.86%) and Consumer Durables (up 1.81%) were 
the top gainers. 
Information Technology (down 4.00%) was the sole loser. 
India's IT bellwether, Tata Consultancy Services recorded 11% decline in Q2 Net at Rs 4991.68 crore as compared to 
Rs 5607.75 crore in the same quarter of the previous year. Tata Consultancy Services and CMC got nods from their 
respective Boards for amalgamation of both the companies. TCS and CMC tanked 8.7% and 14.4% respectively on 
BSE. 
Hero MotoCorp jumped 3% on BSE after recording 58.56% spurt in Q2 Net at Rs 763.37 crore as compared to Rs 
481.41 crore for the same quarter in the previous year. 
Crompton Greaves posted a fall of 6.55% in Q2 Net at Rs 125.96 crore as compared to Rs 134.80 crore for the same 
quarter in the previous year. On consolidated basis, the company’s net climbed 19.14% at Rs 69.6 crore against Rs 
58.41 crore in the September quarter of previous fiscal. The stock ended 1.2% up on BSE. 
The Angels and the Devils 
Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (up 3.40%), Hero MotoCorp Ltd (up 3.05%), HDFC Bank (up 3.04%), Mahindra and 
Mahindra Ltd (up 2.88%) and ICICI Bank (up 2.86%) were the top gainers on the Sensex. 
Tata Consultancy Services Ltd (down 8.73%), Sesa Sterlite Ltd (down 2.76%), Hindalco Industries Ltd (down 2.24%), 
Tata Motors Ltd (down 1.66%) and Wipro Ltd (down 1.08%) were the top losers on the Sensex. 
Benchmark Drivers 
Tata Consultancy Services Ltd (-158.09 points), HDFC Bank (58.08 points), ICICI Bank (55.76 points), Larsen And 
Toubro Ltd (28.85 points) and Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (27.68 points) were the major Sensex 
drivers today. 
On the other end Tata Consultancy Services Ltd (-40.38 points), ICICI Bank (14.98 points), HDFC Bank (14.79 points),
