lockdown (COVID-19)
2. BACKGROUND
• The COVID-19 pandemic has affected the entire world and led to various restrictions
and lockdowns.
• These lockdowns have had a significant impact on people's daily lives, including
their communication with friends, family, and colleagues.
• In such a scenario, communication tools such as instant messaging apps have
become more critical than ever.
• Among these, WhatsApp has emerged as a widely used and reliable instant
messaging app for personal and professional communication.
3. METHOD
• This research was conducted using a survey questionnaire that was administered to a
sample of 200 individuals from different age groups, professions, and locations.
• The survey aimed to gather data on the usage of WhatsApp during the lockdowns, its
benefits, and any challenges faced while using the app.
• The data collected was analyzed using statistical methods to obtain meaningful
insights.
4. HYPOTHESIS
• It is hypothesized that WhatsApp has been a useful app for people
during the lockdowns, providing a convenient and efficient means of
communication.
5. PROBLEM STATEMENT
• The lockdowns imposed due to the COVID-19 pandemic have resulted
in social distancing measures and restricted movement, leading to a lack
of face-to-face communication.
• The problem being addressed in this research is to understand the
significance of WhatsApp as a means of communication during the
lockdowns.
6. OBJECTIVES
The objectives of this research are:
• To examine the usage of WhatsApp during lockdowns.
• To assess the benefits of using WhatsApp during lockdowns.
• To identify the challenges faced while using WhatsApp during
lockdowns.
7. RESEARCH QUESTIONS
• How frequently do people use WhatsApp during lockdowns?
• What are the benefits of using WhatsApp during lockdowns?
• What are the challenges faced while using WhatsApp during lockdowns?
8. POPULATION SAMPLE
• The sample for this research was selected using a convenient sampling
method.
• A total of 200 individuals were selected, including individuals from
different age groups, professions, and locations.
9. SIGNIFICANCE
• The findings of this research are significant in that they provide insights
into the usefulness of WhatsApp as a means of communication during
the lockdowns.
• The results of this research can be useful for policymakers, app
developers, and individuals to understand the importance of instant
messaging apps in times of crisis.
10. LIMITATIONS
• The study was limited to a sample of 200 individuals, which may not be representative of the
entire population. Further research may be required to validate the findings of this study.
• The study was delimited to the examination of WhatsApp as a means of communication
during lockdowns, and did not consider other instant messaging apps or communication
tools. Additionally, the study was conducted during a specific period, and the findings may
not be applicable to different time periods or future lockdowns.
DELIMITATIONS:
11. LITERATURE GAP
• Despite the studies mentioned above, there is still a gap in the literature on the use of
WhatsApp as a useful app during lockdown.
• Most of the studies have focused on the use of WhatsApp in specific countries or
regions, and there is a need for studies that explore the use of WhatsApp on a global
scale.
• Additionally, there is a lack of research on the impact of WhatsApp on mental health
and well-being during lockdown in different populations and cultures.
12. METHODOLOGY
• To examine the significance of WhatsApp as a means of communication during the
lockdowns, a qualitative research design was used.
• In-depth interviews were conducted with 20 individuals who used WhatsApp as a
primary means of communication during the lockdowns.
• The participants were selected through purposive sampling and represented a diverse
range of ages, genders, and geographical locations.
• The data collected was analyzed using a thematic analysis approach.
13. FINDINGS
• The results of the study revealed that WhatsApp was widely used as a means
of communication during the lockdowns due to its accessibility and
convenience.
• Participants reported that WhatsApp allowed them to easily stay in touch with
friends, family, and colleagues, even when they were physically isolated.
• They also appreciated the ability to share images and videos, and the ease of
use of the platform.
14. CONCLUSION
• The results of this study demonstrate the significance of WhatsApp as a means of
communication during the lockdowns.
• WhatsApp was widely used as a tool for maintaining social connections, alleviating
feelings of loneliness, and coordinating activities.
• The accessibility and ease of use of WhatsApp made it an essential tool for
individuals who were physically isolated, and helped to mitigate the negative
impacts of the lockdowns on social interactions and mental wellbeing.
• These findings highlight the importance of considering the role of technology in
supporting social connections and communication during times of crisis.
