Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

4. Shoot 1
My first shoot was polaroid portraits in black and white, location in Milfield forest in Easingwold. I had
five models; Robyn Noble, Emily Grace Jenkins, Elle Slater, Charlie Scarce and Aaron Renolds. The
idea for the shoot was to have the same portrait for each model, and for the image to almost be an
introduction to a few of the young adults featured in my magazine. I also took some coloured images
that I'll either merge in with th ebalck and white or will come after in a collage effect. The coloured
images are more along the lines of documentary photography, as I'm capturing friends meeting up. In
the small towns aropund york its very common for the teens/young adults to find ares in quite spots for
example millfield woods, to meet up and hang out together. In these polaroid images you see the
group of teens talking and joking and also rolling ciggerttes and smoking. These images werent
directed therfore are documentary photography but the black and white portraits where directed and
planned.
7. Shoot 2
My second photoshoot was in my bedroom in my family home in Easingwold with Emily Grace Jenkins.
The idea behind this shoot was showing a young adult comfotable in her own room and just enjoying
her own time and space. The asthetic of my bedroom is very oriental with pops of colour. Emily was sat
on the bed and I just sat at the end of the bed and told her to chill and just talk to me, so we started
talking about what she was doing that weekend and the excitemnet in er face shows through in some
images. I used my polaroid beause of the astehtic of my room I thought the polaroid effect would
enhance the over all effect. I also took some pictures with my Nikon as I wanted a few images with this
camera to represent the core theme of the magazine is photography and that polaroid photography is
this certain issues feature. The photos from this shoot will be used in the section about Emily, and I will
add some text over the top of the images once they're edited together.
Shoot 2.0
After Shoot 2, my friend drove Emily Jenkins, back to the station and in the back of the car I took a
few photos of Emily that I think I might feature in my magazine with a quote representing her mindset
or a quote that related to generations Z's mind set on a whole. I knew most of the images I took of
Emily on this day would have to be edited due to the effect of the natural lighting.
9. Shoot 3
The third shoot I planned was the first full shoot in the style of documentary
photography and were I would be purely observing actions and behavior's of my
peers. The shoot started in easingwold and inlcluded the locations on KFC in Clifton
Moor and also the car park of Tesco in Cliton Moor. This shoot featured my friends:
Robyn Noble, Charlie Scarce and Aaron Reynolds. The idea behind the shoot was
younga dults going out for food at a fast food restraunt, something many young
people do due to lack of money and also it’s a place that always open to go sit and
hang out. The images i collected represent the entire trip, from setting off to getting
and eating food, socialising and then driving home. I love the astethic of this page I a
feel the images represent true documentary photography and the reader can
visibly see the genuine interactions between friends.
11. Shoot 4
Shoot 4 wasn't planned, although I did plan on bringing in my polaroid camera into college everyday for one
week, to observe the aspect of students in generation Z. College is an exeprinence every teenager goes
through after school, it’s the first step in choosing your future. College is also one big area, theres lots of
locations fitting for my style shoot. When walking past the art gallery I noticed the lighting shadow effect
through the windows that was being plasted against the art on the walls. I liked this effect and therefore me
and my classmate Emma Garthwaite descided to take some polaroid images whist this effect was visible, and
I love the effect of these images. After taking these images Emma and I went outside and down to the carpark,
just before you reach the car oark theres a orange wall that with the suns angle had a nice effect through the
shadows of the railling. I asked emma to stand in front of the wall and I took a picture an then I cant remember
exactly what I said but I made emma laugh and caught her laugh reacting to my comment, I knew id feature
these two iages as I liked the contrast between her emotions and also with the added shadow effect I feel the
whole aesthetic is very attrative and will be taken postivley by my readers. I have this theme through my
magazine of introducing an indicual with two poaroids, then followed by a page full of polaroid featuring this
individual. During this week I had my polaroid with me at college, I took it outside with my on breaks. Breaks
are a small period of time between lessons to get some fresh air, get a snack or have a ciggeratte, whatever
students fancy. Its also I small period where friends who are on dufferent courses can catch up. On this
particular break I was sat on the picnic benches with multiple students, including: music studens, art studenst
and media students. I basically just obserevd and snapped a few moments and interations between the group
of students. I got a range of different perspective imgaes and didn’t neciasary focus on faces but on elemnts
of indivduals. For example I took a picture of a music studnts tattooes on his arm and also two music students
legs walking away. I feel the images I collected dueing this week of college work well with my project as I had
a perspective of students in the educational setting yet still socialising and interacting with each other.
13. Shoot 5
I wanted to capture friendship throughout my magazine and the idea of best friends because friendships
are very important and very intense at the age of 18-21. I chose to capture mt own friendship with my
best friend and room mate, Robyn Noble. Robyn and I, like to plan day trips or just things to do on the
days off we have together as we don’t get a lot of time of together. something I know many people my
age struggle with, due to having to many options at 18, including; university, work, travel etc., having the
same schedule as your friends isn't likely and therefore getting time off together is rare that means when
it does happen people like to do nice things with their friends. We planned a picnic in a local field,
something we've done many time when its nice weather, and we brought Charlie, Robyn's boyfriend
along to take the images of us interacting and I took the images of individual images of Robyn. Robyn
and I spent around 20 minutes "passing time" whilst Charlie observed and captured our interactions with
eachother. You see us discussing something then laughing and then finally messing around, hugging
each other and picking each other up. As a reader you can clearly see that our interactions are postive
and we're having a nice time together. I like the overall look of these images because of the location I like
the setting and the natural lighting and I also like the visual of a blonde and a brunette. I added the
drawn illustration of the tree to the double paged spread to bring the setting together, adding a nature
aspect that with the visuals of a open field, it looks like it meant to be there. Robyn's introduction pages
links nicely with the double page spread through the illustarions and colour scheme, I also like that you
see robyn close up and you don’t see her close up in the folowing double page spread. Theres clearly a
mood to this section and the emotions and moments captured I believe represent a youthful, carefree,
beautiful young adult.
14. Shoot 6
Throughout my magazine I wanted a
range of individual characters and
also individual looks. I planned to
see my close friend Nathan one
night at his house, where I
occasionally go round to hang
house or watch films. Nathan lives in
his room and when he's not at work
he's in his room and also in his
dressing gown. I wanted to
represent Nathan as I young,
cheeky man, relaxing in his
room after a long day at work. I like
the representation I got of Nathan,
especailly the close up image. I like
how I have different angle and
compositions of each individual,
therefore the reader won't feel too
much consistency.
16. Shoot 7 & 8
Having the sparklers soon along side charlies main individual shoot in his car, turned out to be a
good decision because I didn't end up getting many usable images of the sparklers due to lighting.
Although, I did get a few of charlie that I'll use on his introduction double page spread. Im happy with
the images featuring robyn beause the focus is still charlie and and they interactions between the
two represent his caring and loving side to his personality. The individual shots of charlie in his car
represent his interest in cars and I also like that on most of the images he's looking away from the
camera, I like this because it gives connotations towards his personality and the shy side. This shoot
was more successful than I thought it would be, as I really like the shots of charlie in his car. And
even though the sparklers weren't as sucessful as I hoped, I got a few with a nice effect that I plan to
use to go side by sie with the images of charlie in his car.
18. Shoot 9 & 10
Location: Tom's kitchen
Model(s): Tom Porter and Jake Wright
After college one Tuesday, Tom and Jake allowed me to take a couple of individual pictures and a
few pictures of them side by side. The thought behind the images were to get a close up shot and a
wide shot of each Tom and Jake, both these images will go with their names on one page. For the
shots of the boys together, I wanted to capture a geniune moment between the pair. After asking
them to stand next to each other I took one image and then I asked them to "laugh." As they
express the awkwadness in asking them to do such thing, they genuinally laughed and I captured
two images of the two boys laughing side by side.
On the day but later in the evening, I observed tom in his bedroom playing games for around an
hour. I captured Tom playing his Xbox and PC, and I also snapped a few images of things around
his room that reference gaming. The images represent the culture of 'gamers,' a huge interest within
our generation (generation Z). I like the effect of the different compostions of tom himself, the range
make it interesting to look at with the other page having all the gaming gear.
19. Drawn illustrations and Written text
Instead of having all my text and illustrations being made online I've drawn illustrations and written
some quotes to scan on to my laptop to then edit on photoshop to then place in my magazine next
to or over images. How I got the end result was through playing around with the levels of the
image and then used the colour range to separate the illustration from the background I had to
adjust the fuzziness to get the separation of the illustration and the background nice and clean.
After cutting the back ground off I was able to put a colour overlay over the original colour and
change the over all colour of the illustrations. I still get the written effect but its clear and defined,
from my experiment I was able to do this effect on software quick and easy. I'll be doing the same
thing to all my illustrations and a few pieces of writing for my magazine.
20. 1. started with the original
scanned images uploaded
to photoshop.
2. Secondly, I adjusted the levels of
the image to soften the white
background and allow the illustration
to stand out more from the
background.
3. Once my illustration is more defined and
the background is softened, I selected the
colour range to separate the illustration
from the background. I had to lower the
fussiness to get the right separation
between the illustration and the
background.
4. After getting rid of the whole
background I then placed a colour
overlay over the top of my
illustration to give it more detail
and define it.
21. 1. Starting image of
scanned writing.
2. Crop to appropriate
size.
3. Select colour range and
make sure the fuzziness is
accurate.
5. Cut the background.4. Once the fuzziness is
accurate make a selection.
6. Select inverse and
copy the selected area.
7. paste the text onto your
page and you'll be left with this
effect.
8. You can add a colour overlay
to get a more pronounced look.
9. Ending results.
