The student created three magazines and a fashion spread for a teenage magazine. To ensure consistency and cohesion across the materials:
- The same color scheme of red, black, and white was used throughout the magazines and fashion spread.
- The same font was used for titles, text, and slogans to link the designs together.
- Elements like the title and slogan were placed in the same locations on each magazine cover.
- The fashion spread used consistent styling and sizing of fonts across images. Outfits also matched the theme to flow between pages.
- Models in the fashion spread used the same makeup to clearly link the different outfits.
- The fashion theme highlighted
The document summarizes the design choices made for three magazine covers and a fashion spread for a magazine targeted at teenagers. Deforestation is a major threat to global biodiversity. In Madagascar, the rapid deforestation of rainforests due to population growth, cattle ranching, and mining has devastated endemic wildlife, eradicating many species found nowhere else. Similarly, in Malaysia deforestation for palm oil and timber plantations, occurring at one of the highest rates globally, is destroying peatland forests and endangered species' habitats. Deforestation disrupts nutrient cycling, removes tree cover critical for many species, and causes soil erosion and genetic diversity loss, threatening biodiversity. Strong government protection and alternative economic models are needed to curb deforestation and conserve ecosystems in biodiversity hotspots.

The document discusses the author's selection of a photo to use for a magazine. It analyzes several photos and identifies strengths and weaknesses of each. The selected photo is a mid-shot that clearly shows the model's face and body position. It has bright, shadow-free lighting and everything is in focus. The model's emotionless expression may intrigue readers to learn more. No fixes are needed for this chosen photo.
The document summarizes the selection process for photos to include in a music magazine. The author chose a photo for the front cover that shows the model smiling and making direct eye contact with the reader. For interior pages, a mid-shot photo was selected that focuses on the model's face and shows a friendly expression. Additional photos included a mirror shot that captures the model's reflection and eye contact to represent glamour, and a photo with the model and her dog to provide a realistic glimpse into the celebrity's life.
The document discusses why the author chose a particular photo for their magazine cover out of the options they captured. The photo is a mid-shot that clearly shows the model's outfit, face, and the perfume bottle she is holding. It has bright, clear lighting without shadows that allows all details to be visible. The model is smiling, making the photo appealing and approachable. However, some background elements like a door handle would need to be removed through cropping or editing.
The photographer intended to create a magazine cover image that was happy, laidback, and intriguing for a teenage audience. They took a photo of a teenager holding food against a plain background to emphasize the food theme. They made sure the model looked comfortable and was directly addressing the camera. The final image fulfills the intentions by featuring the model and food as the focus, using a bright tone to convey happiness. The image and accompanying text are well suited for the cover of a teenage lifestyle magazine focused on food.
The document discusses images used in a magazine. It describes using a friend, Sophie, on the front cover because she fits the target demographic and genre. Post-production editing was done on Sophie's photos, including making her nose smaller, lips fuller, and eyes larger. Editing was also done to remove blemishes and enhance brightness. The document reflects on taking photos against plain backgrounds and obtaining a range of shots to reflect professional practice.
The document provides instructions and questions for evaluating a magazine cover design. It includes questions about the photographer's intentions, how the final image fulfills those intentions, how appropriate the image is for the target magazine and audience, the meaning created by the image, and how well the image and text work together. The student responds to each question, explaining their creative choices for a magazine cover focusing on a theme of either fashion, music, food, or sports for a teenage audience.
The document discusses the creation of a magazine cover intended to represent teenagers in a positive light, rather than negatively as is common. The cover features a model who is not extremely thin, wearing modest but trendy clothes. The title of the magazine is "Young" to fit the theme. The cover lines discuss topics of interest to teenagers. Through choices of model, clothing, pose, and photo editing, the creator aimed to break stereotypes and portray teenagers positively.
The document discusses a magazine cover created to represent teenagers in a positive light. The cover features a model who is not extremely thin, wearing modest clothing. The intention was to break stereotypes and show a healthy, trendy look. The cover lines focus on topics of interest to teenagers. Photographs and editing were used to portray the model in a calm, happy way and add positivity. The overall goal of representing teenagers positively was fulfilled through these design choices.
The document discusses the selection and editing of images for a magazine poster and layout. It provides reasoning for including or excluding various photos based on factors like posing, lighting, expression, style fit, and ability to incorporate graphic elements. Key images were chosen for the front cover, contents page, and double page spread due to qualities like eye contact, posture, persona portrayal, and lighting quality.
This document discusses the development and use of conventions in the creation of a magazine cover and contents page for a clubbing magazine called "Rave".
For the masthead, conventions from both music magazines and clubbing magazines were considered. A one-word, one-syllable masthead was chosen to be short and catchy, following music magazine conventions but not clubbing magazine conventions. Design elements like bold font, outline, and color were selected mindfully based on analyzing existing magazines.
For the cover photo shoot, a medium close-up shot of a female model was used to attract the target male audience. Neon makeup and glasses were used as props to represent the club atmosphere. UV black lighting was utilized
The document discusses the language and design conventions used in the student's media magazine project on clubbing culture. For the masthead, the student chose the word "Rave" to match the target audience's interests while analyzing conventions from other music magazines. Font choices and layouts were selected to be bold, colorful and eye-catching based on analyzing examples from Mixmag magazine. Photoshoots used props like neon makeup and lighting to represent the club atmosphere. Typography and language for the cover, contents page and double-page spread followed conventions of being short, catchy and informal to engage the young adult audience. Conventions were both adhered to and developed based on in-depth analysis of comparable magazines.
The document outlines a plan for photographing a model for the cover of a teen pop music magazine. It describes using makeup and lighting techniques to make the model look young, healthy and captivating. It proposes styling the model in blue jeans and a purple top to look casual yet stylish, in line with the magazine's target demographic of 15-18 year old girls. The plan also covers shooting angles, lighting, editing steps to enhance the image, and proposed graphic elements to incorporate on the cover layout. Feedback was received which prompted changes to fonts, colors, and graphic elements to better match conventions of pop music magazines.
This document discusses several photos taken for the front cover and layout of a music magazine. It describes how each photo was initially considered but ultimately not used due to over-manipulation making the model appear too posed or artificial rather than focusing on the music content. The last photo is described as the one finally chosen for the double page spread due to the natural expression and variety it provided compared to other shots.
The document discusses the poster, magazine cover, and trailer created by the author for a class project about obsession. For the poster, the author likes that the main image catches the audience's attention without revealing the full story and symbolizes obsession. For the magazine cover, the author used similar red and white colors as the trailer and portrayed the main character as desirable to hook the audience. Shots from the poster and trailer connect by showing close-up emotions of confusion/mystery and fear/shock. The author reflects that using the colors red, white, and black throughout ties all elements together but could improve by making images darker and main character appear more hidden.
The document describes the design choices made for a student-created music magazine media product. Key design elements included a masthead in the top left corner for branding, sans-serif fonts for readability, white space around photos on the cover, and standard features like a barcode and price. The target audience was described as male and female music fans interested in genres like trance music who enjoy unique designs. Feedback is provided on skills learned from creating the magazine, including using software like Serif PagePlus and SurveyMonkey.
The document discusses the selection and editing of photographs for different sections of a magazine. Photos were chosen for the front cover, contents page, and double-page spread based on composition, lighting, body language, and ability to engage the reader. Some photos were rejected for reasons such as lack of eye contact, inappropriate facial expressions, excessive background, and exposure issues. Photos will be edited in Photoshop to enhance contrast and crop out unwanted background elements.
The document summarizes the creative decisions made in designing a music magazine called "Mix Mag." Key elements discussed include:
- Choosing the title "Mix Mag" to convey a musical element and changing from the previous title of "Rhythm House."
- Featuring a main image of a model with simple makeup and clothing in a clean, uncluttered setting to draw focus to her face and convey a high-class style.
- Selecting outfits of plain colors like black and white for the model and including props like headphones to look stylish yet professional in line with the house music genre.
- Photographing the model in ways that convey both confidence and energetic enthusiasm to engage
The document discusses setting up props and lighting for a photo shoot for a music magazine. The author tests different backdrops and lighting options before settling on a fabric backdrop, which provides better lighting. Photos from the shoot are then analyzed for their composition, lighting, and suitability for the magazine's double page spread, cover, and contents page. The best photos are selected and some minor edits are described, such as cropping or changing the background.
The document discusses several potential images to use on the front cover of a magazine. It analyzes each image, considering whether the model is smiling, how they could position the title, whether the image quality would allow for clean cutting out, and whether shadows would cause issues. In the end, the author selects one image to use, citing that the model looks relaxed and friendly, it will be easy to cut out professionally, and position the title without issues.

3. I decided to use this image firstly, because this
image is middle body shot so it allows you to view
what she’s wearing but not be distracted by it and
still be able to pay full attention to her face.
There is no distractions in the background so
viewers aren’t getting distracted. Also this image
uses a direct gaze, so it would draw the audience in
if they seen this on magazine in a shop.
The lighting on this image is of high quality too as
this image is light nearer her face so we are drawn
to it and further down the image the lighting gets
dimmer. Also, everything is clear within my image as
it uses a broad depth of field.
Also, within her facial features she is smiling which
is a positive representation of teenagers convincing
the audience to choose my magazine.
4. I coloured the background in black as the
image originally included a shadow and
having the background in black brought out
my image and combined well with the red to
make my magazine bold and eye catching.
I decided to use red for my titles as it
combines well with my magazine title Alert
also, the colour red is alarming so it would
draw attention to my target audience.
I decided to use white for my font as it’s easy
to read upon my image and it combines well
with red and black so my colour scheme
combines well together.
Also I decided to layout my magazine in two
different columns as it stopped my cover lines
from overlaying my image but also allowed
each cover line to be identified as a new
section.
5. I decided to use this image for many reasons, one of which is this image
is a middle body shot allowing her outfit to be seen as well as her facial
features. Also, the angle of my image is at an eye level angle so
viewers will feel comfortable with my image. Providing a positive view
on teenagers it represents that they’re approachable. The pose of my
model looks as if she’s handing the viewer perfume which allows my
image to become more alive.
The lighting is bright so it allows everything to be viewed clearly as it
uses a broad depth of field, meaning everything is in focus. Her eyes
are brightly coloured and unique so we’re not being distracted from her
face, even though she’s wearing bright coloured clothing. Furthermore,
the fragrance bottle isn't in focus the face is so all the attention is
drawn to my models face. However, you can make out that my model
has a perfume bottle within her hand.
Not only that but her eyes aren’t squinted and they are looking directly
into the camera providing a direct gaze so my viewers are will be
attracted to my image even more. Within her facial features she is
smiling so once again it’s a positive representation of teenagers. It sets
a stereotypical view that teenagers are happy or that they will be happy
if they read my magazine.
6. I coloured the background in blue as the
image originally included a shadow and
having the background in blue brought out my
image and combined well with the red and
this allowed my magazine to have a
professional design.
I decided to use red for my titles as I used it
when designing my first magazine so to keep
my magazine linked I made sure red was used
throughout my magazines.
I decided to use white for my font as it’s easy
to read upon my image and it combines well
with red and black so my colour scheme
combines well together.
Also I decided to layout my magazine to the
side of my image so it didn’t overlay my image
and allowed my magazine to look ecstatically
pleasing.
7. I’ve chose to use this image firstly the pose of my model I
think is unique and quite interesting and I think it
represents teenagers as happy, as he’s smiling. My image
also includes a direct gaze which will draw viewers
attention.
Also the lighting on my image is bright so it brings out my
model more allowing him to be eye-catching to the
viewers. He’s also holding his tie which connotes he takes
pride in looking sophisticated and smart, which is a
positive representation of teenagers compared to the usual
stereotype of them wearing “hoods”.
My image also doesn’t have anything distracting in the
background so all the focus is on my model. Not only that
but my image uses a broad depth of field as everything is in
focus allowing my image to be clear.
Also, it includes a low shot so my viewers are looking up at
my model which, then provides the idea that he’s powerful
which is another positive representation of teenagers as
they are usually looked down on.
8. I coloured the background in purple as the
image originally included a shadow and
having the background in purple combined
with the tie on my male on the cover to but it
also corresponded with the red of my titles to
provide a professional design to my magazine.
I decided to use red for my titles as I used it
when designing my first magazine so to keep
my magazine linked I made sure red was used
throughout my magazines.
I decided to use black for my font as it’s easy
to read upon my image and it combines well
with red and so my colour scheme combines
well together.
Also I decided to layout my magazine to the
side of my image so it didn’t overlay my image
and allowed my magazine to look ecstatically
pleasing.
9. I decided to use this image for certain reasons
firstly, this image is a mid shot which allows you to
view his face as well as the positioning of his body
which, is sophisticated.
His facial features also match with this sophisticated
look as he’s using a direct gaze, and he’s positioned
straight. Also, he is emotionless therefore, it may
convince my read to read my magazine because it
might make them want to find out what it’s about
as my image doesn’t reveal anything.
Not only that but, there’s no shadows within my
image and everything is clear, it uses a broad depth
of field so everything is focused.
This allows every detail to be viewed making my
image more interesting. The lighting of the image is
bright so it allows every detailed to be viewed and it
also, the background outlines my model.
10. I kept the background in my image the same
as there was no problems with my image so I
didn’t need to change anything.
I decided to use red for my titles as I used it
when designing my first magazine so to keep
my magazine linked I made sure red was used
throughout my magazines.
I decided to use white for my font as it’s easy
to read upon my image and it combines well
with red and so my colour scheme combines
well together.
Also I decided to layout my magazine to the
side of my image so it didn’t overlay my image
and allowed my magazine to look ecstatically
pleasing.
11. I’ve chose to use this photo for my
fashion spread as firstly, it’s a full body
shot so you can see the whole outfit of
what the model is wearing but also,
you can the emotion within her face.
Also, it has a broad depth of field so
everything is in focus so the image is
clear. The model is including a direct
gaze so the audience will feel like
they’re within the shot connecting with
my model and she is laughing and
looks like she’s having fun so it
combines well with my theme, lets
play.
12. I decided to edit my image to make it brighter
because the other images I had captured
where bright and to allow my fashion spread
to flow I need to make sure each photo
shared the same or similar effects.
I included my clothes description at the
bottom of the page so it didn’t overlay my
image and allowed my image to be the main
focus.
I decided to use black for my font as it’s easy
to read upon my photo.
13. I chose to use this image within my fashion spread for many specific reasons.
Firstly, my female is smiling so it’s a positive representation and it looks as if she’s welcoming my
target audience into the house which I believe makes the audience feel the need to read onwards.
Also, she’s in the middle section of the rule of third and is including a direct gaze so it catches the
target audiences attention . The brightness on this image allows it to be clear and it includes a broad
depth of field as everything is in focus.
14. I decided to use red and white for my title as the red was bold and stood out on my page but also it combined with the colour of the lips
on my model. I included the white stroke to allow the title to be read and bold so it was eye-catching but also so my audience knew it
was the title.
I thought to use the cover line I did because my fashion spread is for a teenagers magazine and teenagers are youthful and young. I also
decided to use the black and white because it allows my cover line to be read upon the page but then also allows it to match the outfit
of my model.
Furthermore, I included my outfit information in the bottom corner so it didn’t overlay my image and was easy to read. I also decided to
use black for my font as it combined well with my cover line. Lastly, I decided to place my title and cover line in the top right corner so it
didn’t overlay my image.
15. I chose to use this photo for my fashion spread for many specific reasons. Firstly, the image includes
a medium body shot which allows you to view the outfit easily and the emotions within her face. Her
pose is appropriate and her emotions are happy so it combines well with my theme lets play.
My image includes a high depth of field so everything is in focus so you can view everything in specific
detail. Also, the lighting is bright so the image is clear and there’s no shadows included.
16. I decided to edit my image to make it
brighter because the other images I had
captured where bright and to allow my
fashion spread to flow I need to make
sure each photo shared the same or
similar effects.
I included my clothes description at the
top corner of the page so it didn’t
overlay my image and allowed my image
to be the main focus.
I got rid of the landing from the image
because it allowed my photo to look
more professional.
I decided to use black for my font as it’s
easy to read upon my photo.
17. I’ve chosen to use this photo for my fashion
spread for specific reasons.
Firstly, it’s a full body shot so you can see the
whole outfit of what the model is wearing but
also, you can the emotion within her face.
Also, it has a broad depth of field so everything
is in focus so the image is clear. Also, the pose
of the model is unique and un-professional
and it looks like she’s having a lot of fun joking
around which matches with my theme lets
play.
18. I decided to edit my image to make it
brighter because the other images I
had captured where bright and to
allow my fashion spread to flow I need
to make sure each photo shared the
same or similar effects.
I included my clothes description at
the bottom of the page so it didn’t
overlay my image and allowed my
image to be the main focus.
I decided to use white with a black
outline for my text as it wasn’t able to
be read in black or white and I didn’t
want to use a bright colour as it
wouldn’t correspond with my other
fashion spread pages.
19. My magazines all link together as I’ve used the same colour scheme throughout
which is red, black and white. I’ve also used the same font all the way through
my designs and made sure the title was and slogan where in the same place on
each magazine.
My fashion spread flows together as I’ve used the same style and size font on
each of my images. Also, the outfits used combine with my theme so my theme
flows through each of my fashion spread images. Not only that but I’ve used the
same make-up on each of my models so you can clearly see each outfit is linked
which also allowed my fashion spread to combine well together.
My magazine and fashion spread combine together as I’ve used the same
colour scheme throughout them all. Also my fashion spread theme, outlines the
youth of teenagers as my outfits are youthful and my magazine is for teenagers.
Not only that but my magazine includes a jacket, and accessories which is also
mentioned in some of my cover lines within my magazine.
Therefore, I believe my magazines and fashion spreads flow on there own and
together too.
