8. Filters and Reports Go Hand in Hand
Since reports are based on using filters, understanding filters is critical
● Filters are the foundation for your reports
● There are two types or Reports in Kindful
○ Standard - have preset filters with minimal fields you
can adjust
○ Custom - utilizing any filters and columns you
determine
● You will need Kindful admin access to utilize any of these
tools

For filtering CONTACTS
● Basic Search fields
● For specific filters, use the Current View field then ‘Add +’
○ Filter dropdown menu
○ you can type your queries too
● Some filters have a binary option built in: ‘Y/N’
● Some filters have a selectable option built in: ‘top #’
● Some filters utilize preset metrics: LYBUNT/SYBUNT donors

Other uses for contact filters:
● Adding/removing contacts to/from group
○ Groups are ways to segment or tag contacts
○ Groups share data with your email system
● Mail merges - apply templates to filtered contacts for mailing
● Bulk edit
○ Archiving/unarchiving contacts
○ Updating custom fields
○ Changing contact type (Organization/individual)

● Activites are the interactions your contacts have -
transactions, letters, notes, etc
● By Campaign
● Prior Week/yesterday; this can be utilized for dynamic
reporting

● Sum Total
○ Displays all data based on the filters you include
○ Displays the campaign breakdown
● Bulk Edit
○ Change campaign
○ Change the designation
○ Change the acknowledgement status
○ If you do not see Bulk Edit, reach out to your support
team to enable

● ‘+’ button to add additional values to our search. By
default adding values adds as A and B.
● ‘or’ filter - allows you to filter for A or B
● Filter invert - use the ‘!’ button on the filter

What can we do with reports?
● Reporting is crucial to non-profit success. You need to be
able to find data easily
● Examples: Find all donors, Find all donors in X year, Find
YTD for gifts for donors
● Standard reports
○ These are pre-made and standardized. Mostly only
available as PDFs
● Custom reports
○ These are ‘made to order’ and can be used to pull any
data you can filter

2. Choose columns for report
a. Choose a standard column set or create your own!
b. Include both contact and campaign custom fields
