8. Thanking your Donors
Thanking your donors inspires ongoing engagement
● Why - Thanking and acknowledging your donors is critical
to your organization's health and reflects well
● When - The sooner the better:
“First-time donors who get a personal thank you within 48 hours are 4x
more likely to give a second gift”. (McConkey, Johnston International UK)
● How - setting up your templates for automation and
efficiency
9. Templates and Tags
Templates: a sample document that has already customized details in place
● Types of Templates; Receipts, Acknowledgements,
Recurring gifts, Birthday emails, Letters, Tax Summary
● What’s the difference between Receipts and
Acknowledgements?
● Tag definition - Tags insert contact and transaction
information to customize your correspondence
○ Tags insert up to date contact data
○ Tags will be specific to the template types
10. Working with Templates

12. Default Receipt settings
Using multiple templates for different types of receipts
● Configure global receipts under ‘Transaction Settings’

● If you don’t have a receipt template, Kindful defaults the
‘Transaction Info for Receipt’ tag
● Campaign Receipts will override the account receipts
○ Configure under Campaign settings
● Receipt demonstration & Q/A time
13. Acknowledgements
Responding to donors for specific gifts
● Acknowledgements allow you to apply pre-made templates to
thank donors. This is in addition to the receipt.
● Acknowledgment types: Call, Email, Snailer, Visit
● New donations are automatically sorted into a list to be thanked
● Note that a single activity can only exist in one list at a time
● Acknowledgements create a consistent workflow:
a. Creates the acknowledgement
i. Email - sends in template in bulk
ii. Letter - generates templates into downloadable PDF
b. Marks gifts as ‘acknowledged- yes’
c. Resets the action count back to 0
14. Working with Acknowledgements
Acknowledgement Demonstration
1. Build your acknowledgement template. Include any tags you would
like applied. Common Tags: First/Formal/Informal Name, Last Gift,

activities for you want to acknowledge.
○ Choose the type: Email, Snailer, etc
○ EX: To Campaign_campaign name
○ All lists automatically filter ‘Acknowledged_No’
○ Lists default as day-of but can be backdated to include historic
gifts
