1. I have chosen the hobbit battle of the five armies to analyse as the character Smaug the dragon has
characteristics that relate to my character Ignis. The technical aspect of the animated fire was the
inspiration for me as this is where Smaugs power comes from and the same for my character Ignis.
In the opening scene when Smaug is desolating Lake Town his edited voice to sound low and with
the fire creates his characters awesome power and this shall be incorporated in my opening shot
primarily and throughout the film. The actor who voices smaugs performance was perfect for the
character and conveyed his evil through extended vowels and growling tone. This I shall incorporate
in my film. The film opening goes straight into the action really gripping the audience but the point I
will focus on is Smaugs death when shot with the arrow by Bard the bow man. Also the animated
fire within his belly of which can be seen through the skin was inspiration for my character Ignis and
the fire within his face which can be seen but is contained. The eyes of Smaug creates the
impression of a powerful being and shows he is a dangerous being and should be feared. His
movement is slow but menacing through clenching his claws to create the sense of that he can
destroy easily. The lighting is dark which has a connotation of a dark plot, not one of original hero
and villain but more complicated.
