2. FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE
Figurative language is used for us to express our selves
creatively.Some examples of figurative language are
Onomatopeia,Simile,and personifacation.In my essay, I will be
describing all eight figures of speech.
3. ALLITERATION
Repetition of a single letter in the alphabet
Ex: Mystic Mountain Blueberry; Tuxedo T-shirt; Live Laugh Love
4. METAPHOR
Directly compares two unlike things
Ex: This house is a prison. I am a glass case of emotion. Im so
hungry I can eat a whole elephant.
5. SIMILE
One thing is compared to another unlike thing by
using specific words comparison (i.e. For instance, like,
as, and resembles)
Ex: You’re like a miniature Buddha covered in hair. I
am going to come at you like a spider monkey. I like pie
in the oven.
6. PERSONIFICATION
Speaking of something that is not human as if it had human
abilities and human reactions.
Ex: The skeleton took a shower. The human torch was denied a
bank loan. The dog talked to the stop sign. The stop sign answered
back.
7. HYPERBOLE
A great exaggeration used to emphasize a point, and is used for
expressive or comic effect. Not meant to be taken literally.
Ex: World’s best cup of coffee! I’m so happy I cant feel my arms!
I'm so mad I will kill you today if you mess with me.
8. IDIOM
A group of words whose meanings are different from the ordinary
meaning, often repeated and develop a new meaning on their own.
Ex: That’s the old ball n’ chain. Piece of cake apple of my eye, go
the extra mile.
9. ONOMATOPOEIA
Formation of a word from a sound associated with what is named.
Ex: Who! Whooo! Whoa! Ow! Whoop! There it is! Wahoo!
