Hurdles when developing, building and marketing tomorrow’s vehicleJMDSAE
By Patrick Debal
The automotive industry has been quite conservative. It embraces new technology when it has no other choice or when the advantages are very clear. Today, it is confronted with challenges driven by society such as global warming or large scale urbanization. In this environment new technology creates opportunities as well as risks.
Today some car manufacturers have made a clear choice for hybrids, elec-tric or fuel cells for tomorrow's vehi-cles while others remained focused on conventional vehicles. At the same time new technology like autono-mous driving and the business model of Uber may be disruptive for the classic model that the car user is also the owner. In this climate new vehi-cles are to be developed during a de-velopment cycle of 4 to 8 years, car manufacturers need to invest in new production lines and the new vehicles have to be sold.

Needs for Shifting Towards Electromobility in the FutureJMDSAE
By Florent Grelier
Transport & Environment is a Brussels-based federation of around 50 organisa-tions around Europe with a mission to pro-mote, at EU and global level, a transport policy based on the principles of sustaina-ble development.
It focuses on policies that have the poten-tial to achieve the greatest environmental benefits. These include transport pricing so that polluters, not society, pay for pollu-tion, setting standards for the cleanest pos-sible cars, vans, lorries, ships, planes and fuels and greening EU investment in transport.
The presentation will cover a broad range of topics with a remind of the global cli-mate goals to be achieved, the impact of transportation in climate change and pub-lic health, the reasons of the current auto-gate issue and what needs to be done to shift to electro-mobility in the future.

under type approval legislation as defined in the
2007/46/EC Framework Directive that is currently
being transformed into a new regulation.
