I created a focus group and found out what people thought about my designs and which one they prefer. With my
first front cover design, they said that they liked the buzzword and skyline along with the font of the masthead.
They also said that they like the slant of the main cover line and callout as it makes it more interesting to look at.
However someone pointed out that the cover lines may end up covering the central image so I should perhaps use
one less cover line to avoid that happening. Regarding my second front cover design, they said that they liked the
two flashes and the fact that there is another image on the page but it doesn’t take the attention away from the
central image and the fact that the information is down the side of the page creates the main focus on the central
image. For my third front cover design they said that the simplicity of the page is a good factor and how the
contents of the page are in all different corners of the page.
Overall, the most favoured design is the first one as it has a consistent layout however I may have to delete one
image and cover line to make sure they don’t overtake the central image.

With my first contents page design, they like how the contents are broken into two sections as it makes it easier to
read and breaks up the page and they said how there is a lot on the page however it’s not too much to take in. For
my second contents page design they said that having an editor’s note is a good idea as it makes the reader feel
involved and know more information and they also agreed that having page numbers on images is key as it will help
guide readers to specific articles and makes it more clear. The choice of a slanted title was also popular as it looks
more appealing and fun compared to everything being straight and average. For my third contents page design they
said that it was a neat layout which is easy to follow and the welcome note is good as it makes readers feel like a
part of the magazine. Someone also said that having a competition on the contents page will intrigue readers and
will already provide them with something interactive to do.
Overall, the most favoured contents page design is number two as it is the most fun layout which represents the
pop genre well.

however the second page is too overcrowded

also said that there is a good use of different
features to draw in the audience.
