Transforming REDD+ lessons learned and way forward
1. The document discusses lessons learned from REDD+ (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation) programs and ways to improve their effectiveness.
2. It summarizes findings from the Global Comparative Study on REDD+ which assessed REDD+ policies and projects in 6 countries and found modest impacts on reducing deforestation and mixed effects on community well-being.
3. It argues that for REDD+ to be more effective, programs need to support large-scale reforms that incentivize conservation, economic efficiency, and government budgets, rather than remain as small projects. Impact assessments also need to better evaluate REDD+ outcomes.
Forest Day 5 Voting Results – Morning Sessions
About 1,050 people, including more than 200 official climate change negotiators, attended Forest Day 5 on the sidelines of the 17th UNFCCC Conference of Parties in Durban on 4 December 2011. Participants at the discussion forums were asked to vote on a series of questions pertinent to forestry, climate change and particularly REDD+. These are the results from the morning sessions. Forest Day is convened by the Center for International Forestry Research on behalf of the Collaborative Partnership on Forests. The 2011 event was hosted jointly with the Government of South Africa, through the Department of Agriculture, Forestry & Fisheries.

1Gender and Land Use and Soil Management Projects
This document discusses mainstreaming gender equality in soil management projects in Ghana. IFPRI organized a two day workshop on “Agricultural Extension Reforms in South Asia – Status, Challenges, and Policy Options” to be organized at Committee Room 3, NASC, Pusa, New Delhi on February 17-18, 2015. IFPRI has been conducting research related to agricultural extension reforms in India and collaborating with researchers in other south Asian countries for the past five years through various projects. For understanding extension reforms in India, a major consultation was held in NAARM in 2009 during which policy makers called for development of evidence for spreading extension reform process in India. Since then several research papers have been produced on various aspects of Indian extension system. While they are presented in various forms including several discussion papers, there is a need to pull all the research result together to present it in form that could be used by the policy makers to further guide them in the reform process. South Asian countries such as Bangladesh, Nepal, and Sri Lanka are going through similar challenges in getting knowledge to farmers. Several experiment shave been conducted to test new approaches to extension by the public, private and NGO sectors. Learning from each country experiences will bring collective understanding and knowledge for the policy makers who are attempting to bring changes in the reform process. This presentation will focus on data gathered from a survey and in-depth interviews with Hudson Valley municipal
officials. The goal of this project was to determine Hudson Valley local government officials’ attitudes toward climate
change and perceptions of climate change taking place in their communities. We also determined local government
officials’ views of risks, vulnerabilities, and issues associated with climate change as it will impact the natural resources
and infrastructure under their jurisdiction. We will discuss what actions local governments are taking to mitigate and
adapt to climate change as well as why some are not. Results also show local government officials’ views of adaptations
and policy options which might address issues resulting from climate change. We also offer suggestions on the most
effective ways of reaching municipal officials with information about climate change threats at a local level – including

1Gender and Land Use and Soil Management Projects
This document discusses mainstreaming gender equality in soil management projects in Ghana. It provides guidance on integrating a gender perspective throughout the project cycle, including problem identification, design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation. Mexico Draft R-PP: Comments by the TAP
The TAP review found that Mexico's R-PP had strengths in its holistic approach, consultation of key stakeholders, and plans for monitoring forest cover. However, it recommended the R-PP develop more detailed strategies to address deforestation from agriculture, better incorporate state/local governments, and give greater attention to indigenous peoples' rights. It also suggested reassessing allocating so much of the budget to improving forest inventory data. Major recommendations included developing tenure and conflict strategies, distinguishing deforestation and degradation approaches, and ensuring appropriate civil society participation in monitoring.

IFPRI organized a two day workshop on “Agricultural Extension Reforms in South Asia – Status, Challenges, and Policy Options” to be organized at Committee Room 3, NASC, Pusa, New Delhi on February 17-18, 2015. IFPRI has been conducting research related to agricultural extension reforms in India and collaborating with researchers in other south Asian countries for the past five years through various projects. For understanding extension reforms in India, a major consultation was held in NAARM in 2009 during which policy makers called for development of evidence for spreading extension reform process in India. Since then several research papers have been produced on various aspects of Indian extension system. While they are presented in various forms including several discussion papers, there is a need to pull all the research result together to present it in form that could be used by the policy makers to further guide them in the reform process. South Asian countries such as Bangladesh, Nepal, and Sri Lanka are going through similar challenges in getting knowledge to farmers. Several experiment shave been conducted to test new approaches to extension by the public, private and NGO sectors. Learning from each country experiences will bring collective understanding and knowledge for the policy makers who are attempting to bring changes in the reform process. Mutation Testing for Task-Oriented Chatbots
Conversational agents, or chatbots, are increasingly used to access all sorts of services using natural language. While open-domain chatbots - like ChatGPT - can converse on any topic, task-oriented chatbots - the focus of this paper - are designed for specific tasks, like booking a flight, obtaining customer support, or setting an appointment. Like any other software, task-oriented chatbots need to be properly tested, usually by defining and executing test scenarios (i.e., sequences of user-chatbot interactions). However, there is currently a lack of methods to quantify the completeness and strength of such test scenarios, which can lead to low-quality tests, and hence to buggy chatbots.
To fill this gap, we propose adapting mutation testing (MuT) for task-oriented chatbots. To this end, we introduce a set of mutation operators that emulate faults in chatbot designs, an architecture that enables MuT on chatbots built using heterogeneous technologies, and a practical realisation as an Eclipse plugin. Moreover, we evaluate the applicability, effectiveness and efficiency of our approach on open-source chatbots, with promising results.

zkStudyClub - LatticeFold: A Lattice-based Folding Scheme and its Application...
Folding is a recent technique for building efficient recursive SNARKs. Several elegant folding protocols have been proposed, such as Nova, Supernova, Hypernova, Protostar, and others. However, all of them rely on an additively homomorphic commitment scheme based on discrete log, and are therefore not post-quantum secure. In this work we present LatticeFold, the first lattice-based folding protocol based on the Module SIS problem. This folding protocol naturally leads to an efficient recursive lattice-based SNARK and an efficient PCD scheme. LatticeFold supports folding low-degree relations, such as R1CS, as well as high-degree relations, such as CCS. The key challenge is to construct a secure folding protocol that works with the Ajtai commitment scheme. The difficulty, is ensuring that extracted witnesses are low norm through many rounds of folding. We present a novel technique using the sumcheck protocol to ensure that extracted witnesses are always low norm no matter how many rounds of folding are used. Our evaluation of the final proof system suggests that it is as performant as Hypernova, while providing post-quantum security.
