Diversity management in africa
Considered to be the most innovative and important element of African Union’s NEPAD initiative, the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) was launched in March 2003 to address governance challenges facing Africa including systemic issues such as political rigidity characterized by executive dominance, political exclusion, especially in the executive and legislature, economic governance and conflicts, pointing to an urgent need to improve all aspects of good governance in the continent. The mechanism is the first of its kind in Africa, indeed in the world, that takes a comprehensive view of all the aspects of a country’s governance system. This is why some analysts have observed that the APRM has the real potential of playing a decisive role in “collective self-governance” thereby unleashing the continent’s economic and political energies for sustainable development.
One of the most significant achievements of the APRM to date has been its ability to diagnose systemic and structural issues that confront most African States in their governance systems. These are issues that require a holistic approach in the search for solutions because of the wider impact they have on the quality of governance in all its dimensions. Thus, the APRM country process has unveiled some major systemic issues that hamper governance, one of which is managing diversity.

Countries across the OECD have developed ambitious plans for STI policy to contribute to socio-technical transitions as the world recovers from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. These plans contain a broad variety of policy goals and instruments designed to support STI in a changing global environment, to tackle new and growing challenges in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, and to apply new tools and approaches to STI policy making, especially digital tools, that emerged in the context of the pandemic.

This document proposes a Framework for Strategic Sustainable Development Assistance (FSSDA) to help bilateral donor agencies orient official development assistance towards sustainable development. The FSSDA is based on the Strategic Sustainable Development approach and uses a five-level framework. An assessment found that while agencies recognize sustainability, their approaches currently lack holistic perspectives and strategic planning tools like backcasting. Adopting an FSSDA could help donors foster sustainability in recipient countries through flexible, recipient-led development and addressing root causes of issues like poverty and environmental degradation. Experts provided mixed feedback, seeing opportunities and challenges to operationalizing such an approach.

This document provides a summary and analysis of voluntary national review (VNR) reports submitted to the United Nations in 2020 on progress implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Some key findings include:
1) Countries more consistently reported on most implementation aspects, though reporting decreased on important issues like budgeting, trade, technology and challenges.
2) Many countries only partially reported based on common UN guidelines.
3) Reporting on leaving no one behind increased but identifying vulnerable groups and strategies remain a challenge.
4) Non-state actors are included in governance but reporting on engagement outside of this decreased.
5) VNRs did not mention closing civic space or attacks on human rights defenders
Diversity management in africa
Considered to be the most innovative and important element of African Union’s NEPAD initiative, the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) was launched in March 2003 to address governance challenges facing Africa including systemic issues such as political rigidity characterized by executive dominance, political exclusion, especially in the executive and legislature, economic governance and conflicts, pointing to an urgent need to improve all aspects of good governance in the continent. The mechanism is the first of its kind in Africa, indeed in the world, that takes a comprehensive view of all the aspects of a country’s governance system. This is why some analysts have observed that the APRM has the real potential of playing a decisive role in “collective self-governance” thereby unleashing the continent’s economic and political energies for sustainable development.
One of the most significant achievements of the APRM to date has been its ability to diagnose systemic and structural issues that confront most African States in their governance systems. These are issues that require a holistic approach in the search for solutions because of the wider impact they have on the quality of governance in all its dimensions. Thus, the APRM country process has unveiled some major systemic issues that hamper governance, one of which is managing diversity.

Countries across the OECD have developed ambitious plans for STI policy to contribute to socio-technical transitions as the world recovers from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. These plans contain a broad variety of policy goals and instruments designed to support STI in a changing global environment, to tackle new and growing challenges in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, and to apply new tools and approaches to STI policy making, especially digital tools, that emerged in the context of the pandemic.

1) Development studies aims to critically examine contemporary social, economic, and political changes in low and middle income countries to identify desirable and possible development goals.
2) Recent research on poverty reduction has shown that growth alone is not enough, poverty is difficult to permanently escape from, and pro-poor policies are needed to address information gaps and power imbalances.
3) When speaking to a finance minister, one should emphasize that a one-size-fits-all approach does not work, persistent poverty hinders growth and poverty reduction, and prioritizing resources must be more evidence-based while acknowledging political realities.
