This project was done for my class “Strategic Planning for Healthcare Organizations”. After creating the five-year strategic plan, my group created a PowerPoint presentation in order to present our final strategic plan to the class and several other instructors. This presentation was meant to summarize our strategic plan and present the main points of our paper. My role was to communicate with the class what part I researched, which was critical strategic issues and response strategies.
The project was to be representative of how real professionals would present a strategic plan to the board of directors of a hospital. This presentation required use of verbal communication skills, planning and developing skills, organizational skills, and persuasion. When our instructors ranked all the projects, my group came in second place out of twelve other groups.

Summary: An integrated delivery system in Albuquerque, New Mexico, has been able to better meet the needs of its patient
population by offering those who need acute care and meet specific criteria the option of being treated in their homes instead of
the hospital. The program has reduced the average length of stay and cost of care and improved patient satisfaction.

U.S. hospitals face bed shortages that are expected to intensify as the population ages. To ensure access to care, health care system
leaders have begun to look for creative ways to care for patients. "Hospital at Home," a program designed to provide acute care
services in the homes of patients who might otherwise be hospitalized, has been demonstrated to increase the quality of care
patients receive, improve their satisfaction, and reduce the cost of hospital care by at least 30 percent. [1] Despite its promise,
broader adoption of the model by health systems across the country has been limited by payment policies that restrict
reimbursement to care provided in the hospital setting. This case study profiles the work of one health system that launched a
Hospital at Home program with the support of its health plan.

Albuquerque that provides care to more than 750,000 patients throughout New Mexico. Presbyterian's network includes eight
hospitals, a medical group with 34 locations statewide, home care services, and inpatient and outpatient hospice programs. Its
managed care organization, Presbyterian Health Plan, provides commercial health insurance, Medicaid, and Medicare products to

Pickle System provides animated video models teaching a large variety of daily living skills such as menstrual care, showering, andcleaning to individuals with autism and developmental disabilities. They offer printable visual aids and data collection sheets that coincide with their videos. Their video models are backed by research and are standardized. They are completing research currently further examining their effectiveness.

In our second presentation, Dr. Shawna Wright will provide a brief history and overview of the KU Center for Telemedicine and Telehealth. She will review recent grant and research projects and Project EHCO. She will discuss the Center's focus during the pandemic and current research goals.
Shawna Wright, PhD, LP, is Director of the KU Center for Telemedicine and Telehealth and Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science. She oversees telehealth projects, technical assistance, and Project ECHO initiatives with statewide partners. She serves as a telehealth consultant on national and state research and service projects, as well as a variety of Kansas coalitions and committees to support equitable healthcare delivery.

In our second session, we will hear from Brandy Archie, OTD, OTR/L, CLIPP, CLVT, about AskSAMIE, a curated marketplace to help patients, care givers, and therapists choose the right adaptive equipment to make everyday tasks easier. Simply answer some questions about the problems the person is having, and then a personalized cart of adaptive equipment and resources is provided. Dr. Archie received her doctorate in occupational therapy from Creighton University. She is certified in both Living in Place and Low Vision Therapy. She has over 15 years of experience in home health and elder-focused practice settings, She also is the founder of AccessAble Living, a company whose mission is also to adapt environments to fit the needs of older adults and serves clients in-person in the Kansas City area.

Our first presentation will be with Dani Hatch, CEO and Founder of Glownar. Glownar is a hardware and software solution for emergency services. Startland News notes that the solution will revolutionize how emergency medical services function. With Glownar’s hardware, EMS will be guided to your doorstep by light, and the software will ensure EMS receives pertinent information about you and your loved ones. With Glownar, families will be able to add information ahead of time to help EMS respond quicker, more efficiently and with personalized knowledge of the patient before arriving on scene. This will result in shorter response times, better scene safety and will help eliminate the errors and lack of information from a caller who is panicked or incapable of communicating.

Marma is changing the way women, mothers and birthing people are supported and nourished throughout pregnancy and postpartum. It provides virtual access to nutrition experts, personalized information and guidance, an extensive library of resources, weekly prenatal tracking and more. Marma sees itself as the app that nourishes birthing bodies.
Representing the leadership team will be Meredith Evans McAllister. Meredith is a successful entrepreneur who was compelled to co-found Marma when she recognized the lack of nutritional resources to which women and mothers have access.

In our first presentation, we will hear from Redpoint Summit about optimizing physician time and quality in electronic health records (EHRs). EHR inefficiencies prevent physicians from providing optimal patient care, which causes burnout. Redpoint Summit identifies physicians' EHR patterns and personalizes the EHR experience for each physician, improves order sets across the hospital and implements evidence-based best practices. This is so that physicians and health systems can provide the most effective and efficient patient care and be recognized for their excellence.
Our presenter will be CEO and Founder Chuck Schneider. Chuck has over 27 years of experience in healthcare IT. Prior to Redpoint Summit, he was VP of engineering at Cerner. He was one of the first 20 architects that created Cerner’s PowerChart EMR. Chuck drove the creation of the ordering functionality, medication process, ePrescribing, mobile development, and other major core EMR functionality. Chuck has 11 US patents in healthcare IT and has owned multiple businesses since 2009.

Our Healthy Jackson County Presentation - HIT Jan 2023KC Digital Drive
In our first presentation, Jannette Berkley-Patton, PhD., of University of Missouri - Kansa City's School of Medicine will describe Our Healthy Kansas City Eastside, a set of projects organized by Dr. Berkley-Patton and UMKC and funded by Jackson County (MO) to improve health status in some of the most challenging neighborhoods in Kansas City. An initial round of funding was dedicated to improving the coverage of vaccinations in these same neighborhoods. Based on the success of that effort, this current round of funding expands into key health screenings, initiatives in maternal health, chronic disease prevention, and digital inclusion. A number of research projects are included in the program. The County grant is for $5 million and is expected to be followed up with another $5 million to expand further.
The success of the program is based on strong sector-led support (health care, education, faith communities, business) directly in the community through networking and events, as well as participation by multiple relevant community entities, like KC Digital Drive. KCDD will be active in both the chronic disease prevention and digital inclusion aspects of the program.

Medical Technology Tackles New Health Care Demand - Research Report - March 2...pchutichetpong
M Capital Group (“MCG”) predicts that with, against, despite, and even without the global pandemic, the medical technology (MedTech) industry shows signs of continuous healthy growth, driven by smaller, faster, and cheaper devices, growing demand for home-based applications, technological innovation, strategic acquisitions, investments, and SPAC listings. MCG predicts that this should reflects itself in annual growth of over 6%, well beyond 2028.
According to Chris Mouchabhani, Managing Partner at M Capital Group, “Despite all economic scenarios that one may consider, beyond overall economic shocks, medical technology should remain one of the most promising and robust sectors over the short to medium term and well beyond 2028.”
There is a movement towards home-based care for the elderly, next generation scanning and MRI devices, wearable technology, artificial intelligence incorporation, and online connectivity. Experts also see a focus on predictive, preventive, personalized, participatory, and precision medicine, with rising levels of integration of home care and technological innovation.
The average cost of treatment has been rising across the board, creating additional financial burdens to governments, healthcare providers and insurance companies. According to MCG, cost-per-inpatient-stay in the United States alone rose on average annually by over 13% between 2014 to 2021, leading MedTech to focus research efforts on optimized medical equipment at lower price points, whilst emphasizing portability and ease of use. Namely, 46% of the 1,008 medical technology companies in the 2021 MedTech Innovator (“MTI”) database are focusing on prevention, wellness, detection, or diagnosis, signaling a clear push for preventive care to also tackle costs.

5. FCC TELEHEALTH GRANT
What is it?

The Telehealth Program provides $200 million in funding, as appropriated to the
FCC as part of the CARES Act to help eligible health care providers provide
telehealth services to patients at their homes or mobile locations in response to
the COVID-19 pandemic. The Telehealth Program provides direct support to
eligible health care providers responding to the coronavirus disease of 2019
(COVID-19) pandemic by funding the telecommunications services, information
services, and devices necessary to enable the provision of telehealth services. The
FCC will review applications on a rolling basis and commit Telehealth Program
funds until exhausted or the COVID-19 pandemic has ended.
7. ESH Application Process & Timelines

- Being a non-profit, critical access hospital in a rural community, our CFO,
Cameron Myer was notified of the FCC/CARES Act Telehealth Funding opportunity
by a frequently used consultant with Integrity Consulting Evolution,LLC on 4/7/20
and we quickly determined that we fit the FCC guidance on “who” would qualify
for this grant. We began the grant submission process established by the FCC.
- On 4/15/20 Excelsior Springs Hospital formally submitted our application to the
FCC.
It was imperative to our organization to submit as early as possible, the $200
million award was given out on a first come/first serve basis and once the funding
had expired, no further funding was expected.
- On 6/17/20 the FCC awarded ESH with an approved award in the amount of
$995,000.
8. HOW WERE THE FUNDS UTILIZED?

Excelsior Springs Hospital partnered with Henry Schein in the purchase of their
Med Pod (Remote Patient Monitoring) Technology.
We purchased:
• 19 Med Carts
• 12 Med Kits
• Spot Vision Screeners X 5
• CBS System X 5
• EKG/Spirometer X 5
• Concussion Tests Annual X5
Total Cost = $995,000
11. CURRENT DEPLOYMENT:
• Received equipment in August 2020.
• Hired external implementation specialists, Telehealth Associates to assist with
implementation plan for Excelsior Springs Hospital in Oct/Nov 2020.
• Currently have equipment deployed/deploying:
• 1 Unit in Express Clinic
• 3 Units at Department of Youth Services Facilities
• 8 Units at Home Health
• Future planned deployment locations include:
• Police/Fire Departments
• Local School District
• Community Center
• Local Business (Walker Trucking)
• Community Housing

12. LESSONS LEARNED & FUTURE
CONSIDERATIONS:

• Extend deployment timeline and try to anticipate delays. Real World events
(COVID) and Operation Warp Speed have delayed deployments.
• Existing infrastructure. This technology works well, but needs good existing
infrastructure to operate to it’s full potential.
• Staff training and education – This includes H/R (creation of new positions),
billing & coding personnel, written policies for the new equipment, education
for personnel/organizations not familiar with Telehealth or Remote Patient
Monitoring.
• Consultation with Telehealth Associates has been crucial. Utilize your local
Telehealth Regional Office or look to consultants to assist with deployment and
best use cases.
• Marketing for buy-in by the customer/patient. This is new technology for them
too.
• Think outside the box.
• You have 0% chance of receiving a Grant if you do not apply. If you qualify,
apply and get assistance with applying.
