Family Definition Essay
Writing an essay on the topic of "Family Definition" can be both challenging and rewarding. The
difficulty lies in capturing the essence of something as complex and multifaceted as the concept
of family. Families are diverse, shaped by various cultural, social, and personal factors, making it
a nuanced subject to explore.
The challenge begins with the need to define what family means. It's not just about blood
relations; it involves emotions, connections, responsibilities, and shared experiences. As a writer,
you must delve into the intricacies of familial bonds and navigate through the diverse
perspectives on family dynamics. Balancing a universal definition while acknowledging the
individual and cultural variations requires finesse.
Moreover, the emotional aspect of family can be both inspiring and demanding. Addressing the
deep emotional connections within a family requires sensitivity and understanding. It's not just
about presenting facts; it's about capturing the essence of love, support, conflicts, and growth
that characterize familial relationships.
Researching for such an essay can be a daunting task as well. There is a plethora of academic
studies, sociological theories, and personal narratives that contribute to the understanding of
family. Sorting through this information and synthesizing it into a coherent and meaningful
essay requires time and dedication.
Furthermore, the essay should avoid clichГ©s and stereotypes while still managing to resonate
with a wide audience. Striking the right balance between a personal perspective and a more
objective analysis adds another layer of complexity. The ability to present a unique viewpoint
while acknowledging the diversity of family structures is a delicate task.
In conclusion, writing a "Family Definition Essay" demands not only linguistic and analytical
skills but also emotional intelligence. It's about more than just defining; it's about understanding,
appreciating, and portraying the intricate web of relationships that make up a family. The
challenge is to do justice to the richness of the topic while making the essay relatable and
insightful.

Vaccinations For Pets
It is estimated that approximately forty four percent home homes in america have
own a dog and thirty five percent own a cat (ASPCA). Such large numbers are not
caused by novelty alone. Whether it be a cat, dog, bird, or horse there are
advantages to taking care of another animal and the companionship it provides. The
physical, emotional, and financial effects of ownership can range from the
presence of a comforting friend, to even the motivation to exercise. However, pets of
any kind are not always cheap and you will have to be prepared to pay the cost of
food and vaccinations regardless of the type of pet.
While not all pets require an active lifestyle, there are many that require you take
them out for a walk or toys to run around the
Amelia Earhart s Reaching The Beyond
When a woman is told, you can achieve anything you set your mind to, the notion
may go in one ear and out the other. However, when a woman is shown by another
that she can use her mind, her heart and her skills to craft the life she imagines, she
is given a tool she will forever take with her on her own unique journey. And this is
what Amelia Earhartbelieved and pursued.
Good evening ladies and gentlemen.
It is a privilege to be standing here, at the Queensland Art Gallery, honouring Amelia
Earhart by unveiling her stupendous portrait. She was a woman who believed the
impossible and daringly overcame obstacles for not only herself but for other women.

The US Invasion of Grenada Essay
The U.S invasion of Grenada, also known as Operation Urgent Fury was an
invasion of the Caribbean island nation by forces led by the United States. It
resulted into victory for the United States in just a few weeks . Grenada is a nation
inhabited by approximately 91,000 people. The invasion was prompted by a military
coup, which ousted the revolutionary government, it restored the constitutional
government. The invasion was also as a response to the request for help by the
Organization of American States (OAS). The official reason given by the U.S
government for the invasion was the presence of approximately eight hundred
American students at the True Blue Medical Facility. The presence of Soviet and
Cuban personnel on the island was also... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A four day full curfew was declared, anybody found on the street during this period
would be shot on sight. It has been revealed that the Governor General appealed for
the invasion via diplomatic channels (Martin, Doughlas). American officials cited the
building of the over 9,000 feet long Point Salines International Airport as a project
meant to facilitate the conduit of soviet arms into the region. The U.S government
felt that the Soviet Cuban militarization of Grenada was a significant security threat,
as proven by the abnormally long runway under construction at the airport.
Intelligence sources also indicated soviet interest in the island. The American students
were the most mentioned as the factor that tipped the scales.
The invasion commenced at 0500 hours on the morning of 25th October 1983. This
was after the forces took off from the Grantley Adams International Airport in the
neighboring Barbados islands after a refueling stopover. The Commander of the
American forces during the invasion was Joseph Metcalph III. The U.S forces
comprised of elements from the branches of military service, along with several
special operations teams. The total number of American troops was approximately
7,000; this was bolstered by 300 troops obtained from the Organization of American
States. They were resisted by approximately 1,500 Grenadian troops, together with
approximately 700 Cuban personnel.
It is said that the defenders were ready for the invasion;
A Note On Chinas Fixed Exchange Rate
The topic of Chinas fixed exchange rate has remained as one of the fiercest subject
in global macroeconomics for an extensive period of time. A fixed exchange rate
or pegged exchange rate is where a currency value is fixed against the value of
another currency, in the example of China, the Yuan or Renminbi it is currently
pegged to the US dollar, it has been fixed to the US since 1994 however within the
past decade it has been allowed to appreciate a little at a time. But in times of
economical difficulties such as 2008 China halted the Yuan s appreciation as
worldwide demand for Chinese products slumped due to the global financial crisis
(Picardo, 2009), this shows the given Chinas recent economic difficulties government

China is able to persuade foreign manufacturing to their coasts as the cost is so
low. For example, as the dollar is stronger than the Yuan this would means that a T
shirt can cost a company five times more to produce and manufacture in the US as
compared to China. This has led international companies to seek the cheap labour
costs moving their manufacturing process to China, well known brands such as:
Harley Davison. Apple, Ikea and The Body Shop all own or have contract factories
within China. These huge global companies were obviously provoked to move
manufacturing to China because of the the low costs, therefore more profit for them,
this was all caused by China having in place the fixed exchange rate. Consequently, it
would seem that having the fixed exchange rate massively benefitted China.
Throughout the past decade, China has become a Manufacturing Powerhouse
(Eloot, 2013), low salaries plus a strong supply base, makes an equation for ideal
platform for exports, which china defiantly benefited from. In 2011 China became
the worlds largest producer of manufactured goods and still remains to be, Factory
Asia now makes almost half the world s goods (The Economist, 2015). This has had
a positive domino effect upon the wider economy in China, living standards have
doubled and the countries GDP per captia has doubled in the last 10 years an
achievement that took the UK 150 years to do (Eloot, 2013) This
Community Health In Fresh Meadows In New York City
As a resident in Fresh Meadows for twenty years, conducting a community health
assessment was an opportunity to learn more about the neighborhood. Located in the
northeastern section of New York s Queens County, this small town was first named
Flushing Meadows before the American Revolution. This was due to large areas of
wet meadows that were also partially located in Flushing. Nonetheless, Fresh
Meadows has become home to many with its diverse community in cultures and ages,

Anesthesia After The Civil War
Another way anesthesia improved healthcare was through continued public
acknowledgement of its versatility. It also led to new discoveries in the medical
field and impacted the rest of America s medical related future. First off, it was
widely used in the Crimean War over in Europe from 1853 1856. Because of
anesthesias success in the Crimean War, American physicians read up on the use of
chloroform through pamphlets and documents that detailed how chloroform was
used in the Crimean War and how it was used in civilian practices (Devine). As the
war raged on, it soon became a common realization, after trial and error, that doctors
should use chloroform during surgical operations when needed. By the end of the
Civil War, Union records showed
When Reflecting On What Made Me The Writer I Am
Today,
When reflecting on what made me the writer I am today, my first thought was,
Well clearly, I m a writer because I m a reader. As a child, I devoured all kinds of
books and spent hours on exploits in different worlds, with Harry and the gang at
Hogwarts, or with the Pevensie kids in Narnia. And I thought that inevitably and
gradually, reading is what led me to create my own universes and stories through
writing. In fact, one of my first memories associated with writing was winning third
place at a story competition in the 1st or 2nd grade (high prestige, I know). Writing
is linked to reading, and to personal agency and action. I chose to read, and that led
me to choose to write.
But after reading these texts about literacy, and ... Show more content on

Perhaps if I had someone around me who discouraged me to write and never
acknowledged my work, I would have given it up. Thus, the people around me have
actively had a role in my literacy narrative.
Another aspect that led me to being a writing consultant, and being interested in
editing, was a previous experience as a copy editor at The Daily Northwestern. It was
a formative experience that led me to being a better journalist, and to seek out this
opportunity at the Writing Place. Doing that job made me pay more attention to
spelling, dates and even capitalization. But most importantly, it taught me that the
writer puts together most of the puzzle, and the editor is the one who puts the last
pieces in and makes the puzzle look polished. One role is nothing without the
other. Without a writer, the editor has no article to improve. Without an editor, the
writer wouldn t be able to refine their story. Even if writing is personal, it can take
a village to raise a good story and make it the best it can be. At The Daily, writers
always had their desk editors with whom they could bounce ideas off, and in turn the
copy editors had to discuss with writers how they could fine tune their stories,
whether that was citing stories properly, or remembering to write The Daily instead
of the Daily. Much like how

Australia s International Relations Between Australia And...
Today Australia is one of the most ethnically diverse societies in the world. Almost
one in every four Australian residents was born outside of the Australian boarders and
many more are first or even second generation Australians. These children and
grandchildren would have recently arrived as migrants or refugees, But in the
ninetieth and twentieth century, Migration was not accepted the same way. Australia
had various laws that aimed to keep people who were from non european
backgrounds out of the country. These laws also restricted the lives of people who
were not white and were already currently living in Australia. The ImmigrationAct
1909 most popularly known as the White Australia Policy which caused upset within
Australia s international relationships with Britain and Japan. This caused other
nations to criticise Australia s racial views and eventually immigration restrictions
were gradually loosened and Australian s began to be less fearful of people from a
wide range of different countries and backgrounds. The big push for the Immigration
Act 1901 in the first place was due to Australia s fear of Asian migration and
population take over.
The White Australia Policy was an immigration policy perused in Australia between
1901 and the late 1960 s to exclude non European migrants. In the 1850 s large
numbers of gold seekers came from South China to try their luck in Victoria,
Australia. By 1861, the Chinese community had taken up 7% of the Victorian

Diversity Management As A Method For Achieving Equal...
1.Diversity Management
Kersten (2000) defined diversity management as a method to achieving equal
treatments that encourages employers to utilize and acknowledge individual
differences within their workforce. These differences include both visible, such as
age, gender and race, and invisible, such as sexual orientation, work experience and
some aspects of disability. However, she also argued that there is no single definition
of diversity management yet (Kersten, 2000). This absence has caused multiple
interpretations of diversity management from employers that lead to inconsistencies
and the dominance of expediencies of its practices (Thorpe, 2014a).

This theme of critiques is based on the assumption that diversity management will

worth to note that practising diversity management will widen the range of people
that deserve to receive equal treatments.
Encouraging ethnic reification
Some critics found there are some practices of diversity management that simplified
ethnicity based on attributes that come from inaccurate perceptions of that ethnicity.
Furthermore, Berg and HГҐpnes s study in Norwegian organisations revealed that
some employees even detest of being associated with their ethnic origin and preferred

it contain long term weakness such as the idea that fighting inequality treatments only

Happiness Of Life In My Life
I was the first born in my family. I am the oldest of 20 great grandchildren and 13
grandchildren; I m the first of my generation in my family. With this being the
case, I was often put in situations where it was just me and a bunch of adults. I am
very grateful for this because, now, I can talk to adults and strangers very easily.
Through these experiences, I have been able to have conversations with all sorts of
people. I have heard stories of great success and of grand failures. In my experience,
the wisest people are those who had awesome success without losing the meaning or
true happiness of life. In my life, I have had two people who were real mentors to
me, Jeff Sandefer and Gretchen Anderson.
Jeff Sandefer was the founder of a multi billion dollar energy company (Sandefer

revolution in the K 12 education realm through the school him and his wife built,
Acton Academy. I was lucky enough to be able to attend Acton Academy for my
7th grade year and I got to sit in on a few classes at Acton MBA. Through his
teachings and just having conversations with him, I was taught and given a new way
to think, to analyze my life, to form an opinion, to deal with a situation, and how to
fail. Through the first few months of attending Acton Academy, I was given the
opportunity to learn so much about his past, his failures, and his success. Jeff

Pico della Mirandola had an idea of freewill that was a bit abstract for the common

heaven nor of earth, neither mortal nor immortal, so that with freedom of choice and
with honor, as though the maker and molder of thyself, thou mayest fashion thyself
in whatever shape thou shalt prefer... Pico uses the creation of man by God to
further justify that God has given freewill to Man so they can mold their own places in
Self Reflection Paper
When asked to describe myself, I am not solely a one sided card, I am a decagon of
collective interests and identities. I am: an eldest child, a sister, a Latina, a
volunteer, a student, and a determined first generation college graduate. Without
one, I am no longer myself. Because of this, each side has molded me into the person
I am today and as time goes by I will gain more sides to myself and continue to grow.
As the eldest child, I didn t have a sibling to look up to, so I became self motivated
and driven. To my parents, I was known as the guinea pig because I learned
through trial and error. I was the baby whose first steps followed a nosedive to the
floor. Yet, I did not lay there and cry, I got up again and proceeded to walk then fall,
until I finally walked without falling. Even though I was so young, I believe
because of this I gained my need to be determined, persistent, and optimistic even
when there was an obstacle in front of me. As a sister, I learned to become
nurturing and selfless. Because my brother was born soon after me, everyone s first
thought including my own, was to always worry about his well being. This sense
has been heightened because of my younger sister. In so many ways she has taught
me patience, maturity, and the true meaning of selflessness. As I grow I help my
sibling s by being their teacher and counselor for them so they can learn from my
mistakes.
Being a Latina has been difficult because I felt like I didn t fit in. When I attended

Parenting Tips and Advice for Raising Bilingual Children
By Rashel Dan
Apr 19, 2008
The world is becoming smaller and cultures are almost merging. Before, transport and
communication made it difficult for people to connect. Today, it is a common
occurrence to come across people of different races. Because of these cross cultural
encounters, many individuals find spouses of different racial heritages.
Some families are also relocating to other countries. In such cases, these parents are
more than ever in need of a good parenting tip. This is because these parents need to
contemplate the need to raise their children in a bilingual environment. Why is
bilingualism necessary in some families and what parenting tip do bilingual parents

It is a highly recommended parenting tip that both parents feel comfortable about the
arrangement. Otherwise one parent may not be supportive at all. Neglecting this
parenting tip may make matters unpleasant for one parent and for the children.
Start Early and Be Consistent
Begin early and start while your kid is still young. Some parents may recommend
that bilingualism should be introduced as early as infancy. They also offer the
additional parenting tip of consistency. Do not stray from your resolve and your
methods for bilingual training. At the same time, avoid fierce criticism. This may
only push your children into dismissing the minor language.
Use Techniques
Used tried and tested techniques. Some parents both insist on speaking the minority
language while at home and allow their children to speak the majority language while
outside. In some families, one parent speaks the minority language while the other
speaks the majority language when speaking to their children.

The Influence Of The American Dream In The Great Gatsby
F. Scott Fitzgerald the great Gatsby has been one of the greatest literary works of
modernism. The tone of this movement was he American literature in the old days
and the present days. F. Scott Fitzgerald sets the great Gatsby in the jazz age to show
the decline in the 1920s, about how wealth does not bring happiness and those with
unrealistic dreams are unsuccessful and dishonestly can ruin relationships.
Through reading the book, it shows how the experience of selfness and World War
1 made the high social hopeful over their lives. It showed how they wanted to
forget the past and build themselves back into their social class. Also by the
experience of Daisy and Jordan treatment from the men in the stories allows the
reader to see how time still hasn t changed how relationships work with men. This
novel is a great novel to give an example on how reality is to people even the high
class. Through the discussion of the passage will show how the path towards the
American Dream can turn into a negative or positive outcome in a person s life
The characters in the great Gatsby all share similar dreams as most of those dreams
does not always come true. Gatsby is a mysterious wealthy young man. Every
Saturday his mansion in West Egg throughs parties. His real name is jay Gatsby. He
was born in North Dakota to a wealthy farming family. While serving in the Army
in World War I, Gatsby met Daisy who he fell in deep love with her. He worked

Human Sexuality Diversity In Contemporary America
Conflict itself is not dangerous to intimate relationships; it is the manner in which the
conflict is handled... I would like to start with this line that I found through the
lecture in Human Sexuality Diversity in contemporary America chapter 8. The
reason is because it simply amazed me how much true this line has between its
words. Coming from a divorced and conflict family, I grew up believing conflict
between couples was something normal and had no solution nonetheless screaming
or hurting (physical, emotional, or psychological) each other. I liked the idea of
understanding how different a relationship can be and how all relationships suffer
from conflict, though, how this book mentions The ways in which couples deal with
conflict, reflects
Examples Of Satire In Candide

Ms. Kalick/Carlton Candide s Garden Candide is a satire written by Voltaire.
Voltaire wrote it to poke fun at Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz s idea of philosophical
optimism, the belief that we live in the best of all worlds. Voltaire disagreed with this
philosophy, a philosophy which Dr. Pangloss, a character from the satire, strongly
believes in. Another philosophy that is stated in the satire is Candide s, but let us
cultivate our garden . To cultivate [a] garden means to improve ourselves through
open mindedness and adaptation. One way you can improve yourself is by being
open to new ideas. Candide does this throughout the whole novella. At the beginning,
Candide blindly follows Dr. Pangloss s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Psychological Impacts Of Attachment Disorder
Psychological Impacts of Attachment Disorder The theory of attachment was
originally developed by John Bowlby, a British psychoanalyst who was attempting to
understand the extreme anguish experienced by infants who had been estranged from
their parents. Attachment is the term developmental psychologists use to describe the
emotional bond between infants and one or more adults. Attachment is like a
security blanket. It allows infants to venture out and explore, returning to the adult as
a place of protection. It is a building block for future relationships and for the
development of the child s personality. Most infants display a secure attachment: a
balance of exploration and play with the desire to remain near their mothers or...

The relationships between attachment classification, psychopathology, and
personality traits during adolescence, undergoes a process of individuation,
separation and profound socio emotional changes. Throughout this period, attachment
functions as a stress regulator, mediating internal security and proximity access, while
emotion regulation is often linked to an increased rate of psychopathology
(Rosenstein Horowitz, 1996). Baby s attachments develop in the following sequence:
o Up to 3 months of age Indiscriminate attachments. The newborn is predisposed to
attach to any human. Most babies respond equally to any caregiver. oAfter 4 months
Preference for certain people. Infants they learn to distinguish primary and secondary
caregivers but accept care from anyone. oAfter 7 months Special preference for a
single attachment figure. The baby looks to particular people for security, comfort
and protection. It shows fear of strangers (stranger fear) and unhappiness when
separated from a special person (separation anxiety). Some babies show stranger fear
and separation anxiety much more frequently and intensely than others, but
nevertheless they are seen as evidence that the baby has formed an attachment. This
has usually developed by one year of age. oAfter 9 months Multiple attachments. The
baby becomes increasingly independent and forms several attachments. These results
indicated that attachments were most
Paper On The Last Supper
As we near the end of the semester, it is important to reflect back on what was
discussed and learned. We have viewed many pieces of work over the last few
months including relatively old pieces as well as modern ones. With everything in
life, one will develop their personal opinion on the matter. With that being said, I
have chosen two pieces of work to contemplate: one being positive and one being
negative. There were many pieces throughout the semester that I could develop a
positive or even a negative response to, however, the following are my top two pieces
in each aspect. The Last Supper, which was created by Leonardo da Vinci in 1498,
can easily be considered as one of the most famous paintings to this day. I chose this
work to serve as my positive response simply because in my opinion there is not a

The painting is absolutely beautiful in terms of visual aspects. Leonardo used a one
point perspective to effectively accentuate the center of the painting, which is
most obviously Jesus Christ. Not only does he put the vanishing point at Christ s
head, but he creates a triangle with his body that no other object overlaps. He uses
contrast to light up the middle of the painting while making the edges much darker.
All of these create a powerful image of Jesus. Not only do I like the painting for it s
beautiful visual aspects but it s emotional beauty. It doesn t necessarily make me
sad. It more so opens my eyes to the reality of the story. The painting was designed
to be different from the previous depictions of the last supper. Leonardo has given
his take on the psychology of each of the figures in the painting. The emotions of
each of the apostles is overwhelming and ultimately give off the affect of a subtle
chaos due to the fact that Christ has just told them one of them will betray him.
The impact of Vasco da Gama on India
Vasco da Gama s revolutionary sea expedition to India is one of the most crucial
moments in the entire history of exploration. Till the middle of 15th century,
Portugal was the foremost seafaring country in Europe. King Manuel I: the ruler of
Portugal hired about four ships for the voyage around Africa to the legendary land
of India. King Manuel I knew that India was a huge cradle of variety of spices,
which were extremely rare to see in other places and moreover they were pretty
expensive in Europe. The king had also noticed that the Muslim merchants
transported the spices by caravans through Arabian deserts and sold them in the
markets of the Mediterranean ports. King Manuel I expected a new sea route to
India, as that would enable him to import spices directly. This achievement was very
important for Portugalas they could trade and earn money a lot of money from it.
India was filled with spices: Pepper was a very common and the most used spice, it
was used to preserve food and to flavor spoiled meat. Pepper was originated from
Cochin and Malabar Coast in India. Cloves and cinnamon were equally used. They
were used for keeping the food hygienic and ventilated. They were also sprinkled
across the floor to avoid foot odor from entering the room. Many spices were also
used for the cure of various illnesses and deadly diseases. India was the foremost
spice trader for most of the countries including Europe.

King Manuel I assigned Vasco da Gamato lead the revolutionary

Develop Bangkok as creative tourism product to meet the needs and expectations of
foreign visitors and new activities to local communities in order to improve domestic
visitors experience
BACKGROUND CONTEXT Culture is a main pull factor which influences visitors
to travel to destinations in different parts of the world (Akama Sterry 2000). In most
regions, particularly in world leading metropolis, cultural attractions have become
important in their tourism development. At the global level, cultural attractions are
usually perceived as icons of main streams of global culture which attracts millions of
tourists annually (Richards, 2001). Implication for Bangkok
In this proposed plan, some of definitions will be used to address the potential future
development of emerging tourism in Bangkok.
Creative tourism has been defined by Richards and Raymond (2000) as:
Tourism which offers visitors the opportunity to develop their creative potential
through active participation in courses and learning experiences which are
characteristic of the holiday destination where they are undertaken.

How Did We Start The Vietnam War Essay
Vietnam War
The Beginning of It All
The whole conflict in Vietnam started with France s imperialism. The French took
over Vietnam and established Indochina in the 1880s. However, the people of
Vietnam wanted to be free from France, and under their communist leader Ho Chi
Minh they established a military organization called Viet Minh. This organization
took over the capital and declared Vietnam an independent country. Ho asked for aid
from the U.S, but the U.S distrusted their communist ideals. Instead, President
Truman sent financial aid to their ally, France.
During President Eisenhower s term, the Vietnamese effectively defeated the French
and established the Geneva Accords which created a 17th Parallel (border) separating

Nixon gathers support for his policies calls for national solidarity on the Vietnam War
effort through television and radio. President Richard Nixon also introduced a new
strategy called Vietnamization which was aimed to end the American involvement in
the Vietnam War. With this strategy Nixon believed that it would prepare and build
up the South Vietnam s military strength for them to be able to fight the North
Vietnamese alone and start withdrawing U.S troops. He had already withdrawn
60,000 troops from the war and was ready to keep making more reduction as it
continued. However, he ended up illegally bombing Viet Cong sites in Cambodia
Laos. President Nixon passed the 26th amendment that lowered the voting age from
21 to 18 years. This played a major role in the Vietnam War because the people of
the U.S. were not happy that the government was drafting the 18 year olds to go to
war but couldn t vote. Young men that were being drafted were resisting the draft
because they wanted their vote. This was the disconformity that the citizens had with

Essay on The Market Revolution
American History I
The Market Revolution During the late 1700 s, the United States was no longer a
possession of Britain, instead it was a market for industrial goods and the world s
major source for tobacco, cotton, and other agricultural products. A labor revolution
started to occur in the United States throughout the early 1800 s. There was a shift
from an agricultural economy to an industrial market system. After the War of 1812,
the domestic marketplace changed due to the strong pressure of social and economic
forces. Major innovations in transportation allowed the movement of information,
people, and merchandise. Textile mills and factories became an important base for
jobs, especially for women. There was also widespread ... Show more content on

They would connect cities, such as the Erie Canal, which covered the area between
Albany and Buffalo and connecting New York Cityto the area of the Great Lakes
(Roark, 261). Railroads also came into the picture with the first railroad, the
Baltimore and Ohio in 1829 (Roark, 262). There was an abundance of natural
resources during this time period. The forests provided the wood needed to heat
the rising growth of the factories and to supply paper for the increase of books and
newspapers. The transportation growth provided people with a way tp receive
literature in distant areas. Sawmills had to use the waterwheel for power. The
steamboats pummeled a pathway through the rivers, but also deforested the land in
their pathway. This brought about America s first issue with air pollution. Textile
mills grew because of new inventions that would make the product and people
willing to work for a living. In the 1790 s, Samuel Slater built the first factory in
Rhode Island, which had a machine that could spin thread and yarn. This allowed an
increase in the New England area of spinning mills. In Lowell, Massachusetts,
factories were created on the Merrimack River combining all parts of cloth
production, such as combing, spinning, shrinking, weaving, and dyeing (Roark, 262).
This also brought the change in the workforce by using girls as employees. These
young women would work at the mill until they got married, and replacements were

I can t believe this class is almost over; summer went by fast. I am happy that I
learned numerous concepts that have helped me improve my writing, such as
grammar concepts, APA format, word choice, persuasive essays, and cause and effect
essays.
First, there are several grammar concepts that I feel like I will remember. The
FANBOYS mnemonic device I learned in this class will help me remember
coordinating conjunctions (For, And, Nor, But, Or, Yet, So). We need to use a
comma + a conjunction (and, but, for, nor, yet, or, so) to connect two independent
clauses. Also, I learned what independent and dependent clauses are. A dependent
clause does not express a complete thought, and an independent clause does express a
complete thought. Next, I feel like I improved on parallelism. I know I had a few
problems with parallelism in this class. I am confident that I will check to see if
my sentences are in parallel form when I conjoin multiple instances of the same
type of word class or phrase. My public school was not the best at teaching
students, so I feel like my grammar skills have always been lacking. This class
makes me feel confident that I have improved my grammar skills tremendously.
Everyone needs to refresh their grammar skills at least a few times a year because
using grammar correctly is important. Improving my grammar skills has always
been important to me because I will be taking more English classes in the future. I
am not going to let a poor public school education

A supermarket chain focuses on cost and quality, with some specialty chains
adding flexibility by carrying a broader range of products that may be targeted
towards customers interested in organic products or ethnic cuisine. Implied demand
uncertainty for a supermarket chain tends to be low; shoppers are typically repeat
customers and have a constant demand level. The supermarket supply chain must be
responsive by receiving produce quickly to ensure freshness and have a high service
level. Supermarket supply chains tend to be well established and can improve
strategic fit by emphasizing speed to maintain freshness, hence perceived quality.
Auto manufacturers have extremely complicated supply chains that are increasingly
focused on flexibility and lean operations. Implied demand uncertainty for auto
manufacturers varies considerably by target market and manufacturer. Automotive
supply chains among the big three in the United States have made great progress

However, the economy seems to be recovering faster than economists had originally
predicted. With GDP and consumer spending up year over year, we feel that the
worst is behind us and growth will continue globally through 2012. As unemployment
starts to fall and credit starts to loosen up, we feel consumers will continue to
increase their spending.
Although this may sound good for the brewing industry, this may not be so. In 2008,
when the recession was at its peak, beer sales increased more than wine sales for the
first time in nearly a decade. We can compare this event to Wal Mart, who benefits
during recessionary periods due to their cheap prices. But as the economy recovers
and consumer spending increases, the upward trend in wine sales is likely to
continue, putting pressure on breweries to increase sales by decreasing prices. This
price war is harmful to the industry, and has a negative effect on profit margin.
Industry Analysis amp; Forecasts
When an industry has been around as long as the beer brewing industry has, it is no
secret that it has reached a pinnacle. At the same time, it shows no signs of decline,

Dutch Slave Trade Essay
Dutch Slave Trade
During the 17th and 18th centuries, mercantilism was the emerging economic policy
through which the slave trade developed in Europe. In the Netherlands many
historical events gave rise to a desire for domination of international trade. They were
serious tradesman and were heavily involved in the profitable business of slavery. The
Dutch, intelligent and self ruling tradesmen took no time in displaying their
dominance over rival countries, Portugal, England and Spain, in the Atlantic and
Indian Ocean. They established their international superiority in trade and impacted

However, this in turn led to the entrance into international trade. This will begin a
long struggle for trading power with the Portuguese, Spanish, English, and French.
The Dutch didn t take long to make their presence felt. The quote from the book
The Slaves describes their attitude coming into the trade, The Dutch, fiercely
independent, and aggressive traders...did not take long to establish themselves
internationally. The Dutch were determined to control the trading power in West
Africa. By mid 16th century, the Dutch had set up posts along the West African
coast, and forts in present day Indonesia. The Dutch also controlled most of the
Eastern Sea and had set up forts along the Caribbean and the coast of Dutch
Guiana. The Dutch were very bright when it came to technological advances. One
example of their knowledge was the invention of the canal and irrigation tactics.
The Dutch intelligence in trade soon overcame the Portuguese in Africa. First off,
the Dutch armed their boats and also trained the sailors. This system will prevent
rivals and enemies to sink their ships or purge their cargo from the ship. The Dutch
also raided particular forts, which gave them good geographic points on the map,
and limited the power of their rivals. These forts were ports for trading routes, where
ships may need supplies, and were also loading areas for

Examples Of Femininity In The Little Mermaid

Mexico encouraging Mexico to reclaim states taken from them by America.
The United States entry into the war brought millions of fresh, new, eager men and
plentiful supplies. These supplies were all helpful and most of the supplies (as
America was and still is a highly technologically advanced country) were of the new
technology mentioned earlier. This abundance of new weaponry gave Britain and the
allies an edge over the Germans and their allies. The allied troops also found a new
inspiration to fight because of the United States entry and so an intense morale boost
swept through the troops. America also had immense amounts of money (being the
richest country in the world), which they lent to the
Improving the Resource Accountability Practices in DLi...
DLi states that its vision is to see World Class Servant Leaders Raised Up In Every
Vocation. Since servant leadership is enshrined in the vision of the company, it would
therefore be reasonable to assume that the company has clearly examined what
Servant Leadership is and developed measureable outcomes against which to measure
results. Page (2009) states that good Christian servant leaders serve God through
investing in others so that together they may accomplish a task for God s glory
(p.439). One can therefore measure the extent to which the company subscribes
effectively to and operates according to the Transformational Servant, Results Based
Leadershipmodel by examining the extent that DLi is investing in and then expecting

These can be directly mission strategic gifts, or more generic blessings of the poor,
disaster relief or other local needs. Nationally, the First Fruits are used mainly to
fund strategic initiatives and start up ministries. Over time, however, there is a
pressure to fund operational costs from First Fruits rather than direct ministry
expenses. There is no general guiding decision matrix against which First Fruits are
allocated. It can be argued that a lot of the operational costs are incurred in order to
facilitate ministry. Thus, this is an area for ongoing discussion and evaluation to
avoid leadership becoming self serving in the administration of corporate First Fruits.
The lack of clarity or reporting downward of how leadership utilizes First Fruits also
creates an environment that opens leadership to temptations of misusing First Fruits
giving. Governance has developed over time so that those who have primary
responsibility for and dependence upon financial results of the company do not have
controlling interest in the stewardship of the company. Of the six individuals on the
China leadership team, only two have direct responsibility for generating income
within a business unit, and only one of those depends upon that income for his salary.
The other leaders are primarily supported from contributions rather than business
income. Having a governing team in place
Sometimes In April Analysis
In the movie Sometimes in April, we see the depiction of the tragedies in Rwanda
that resulted from the conflicts between the Hutu and the Tutsi people. Prior to
Belgium s colonization of Rwanda, the Hutus and the Tutsis lived in what some
people might consider peace because of their similar backgrounds, language, and
religion. Once Belgium gained control, they began to put these groups of people
against each other. The film captures the journey of two Hutu brothers. The story is
told with a sequence of flashback. The two Hutu brothers are Honre and Augustine.
Honre was a major radio commentator against the Tutsi people who was sent to jail
because of the major affiliation he had with the anti Hutu campaign in Rwanda. On

This movie depicts what happens during the Cuban Missile crises. It focuses on the
role of the President of the United States, who at the time was John F. Kennedy. After
coming to the conclusion that the Soviet Union, who decided to ally with Cuba
during the Cold War, was in the process of placing nuclear weapons in Cuba, it was
up to Kennedy and his advisors to come up with a plan. These nuclear weapons had
the ability to wipe out a massive number of people and the United States had to be
prepared to prevent this and fight back if they needed to. In addition to the
millions of American lives that would be lost to the nuclear attack from Cuba,
there would be a tremendous amount of Damage done to the United Stated
military bases. What many of the advisors wanted to do was go forth and invade
Cuba to begin to attack. Kennedy, rightfully, was worried about the outcome of
that decision. If the United States went into Cuba to attack, the Soviet Union could
not only attack us, but take out some of their frustrations of countries allied to the
United States in Europe as well. The United States needed to find a solution.
Kennedy knew he had to find a way to remove the missiles. He did not know if he
should advance and take care of this using coercion or to try to do it peacefully.
They try to advance diplomatically. They decide to try their best to keep the peace
so this war that was at a cold
A Summary Of Content-Related Validity
There are a variety of strategies available to I/O practitioners for the purpose of
validation. For example, there is construct validity, criterion related validity, content
related validity, transport of validity, meta analytic validation evidence, or consortium
studies, among others (Scott Reynolds, 2010). However, the two most used methods
(and therefore most researched) are criterion related and content orientated strategies
(Scott Reynolds, 2010).
Evidence for criterion related validity is generally obtained by demonstrating a
relationship between the predictor and criteria (Society for Industrial and
Organizational Psychology [SIOP], 2003). The predictor is the results gathered from
a selection procedure (e.g. test scores), and criteria ... Show more content on

For example, although criterion related validity provides empirical evidence, it may
produce errors if too small of a sample is used, and in situation like this it may be
better to use content related validation. Another consideration, that most
organizations would likely want to know, is what the return on investment is when
using validation methods (Scott Reynolds, 2010). Attention to legal and regulatory
rules would have to be taken into account when choosing the right validation
strategy too. McPhail and Stelly (as cited by Scott Reynolds, 2010) have this to say
about choosing a validation strategy, From an applied perspective, the type and
amount of validation research undertaken in a given application may in part be a
function of the value of such research based on relative costs and benefits (p. 703).
Therefore, costs (both actual and potential) associated with various validation
strategies would need to be weighed against the benefits such strategies would
provide. Ultimately, knowing what is needed and what needs to be obtained from a
validation strategy, as well as the situational constraints involved, will help to guide
an I/O practitioner when choosing a validation

Love is the greatest human emotion one can experience. In the poem Leaving the
Motel by W. D. Snodgrass and Sex Without Love by Sharon Olds each poet shares
different views on the theme of love. Snodgrass poem focuses on a couple having
an affair in a motel. As they are leaving they go through a checklist to make sure
they keep their secrecy. While, Olds poem focuses more about how people have
sex without being in love. Both of these poems illustrate a strong sense of love in
different ways with the help of point of view, mood, and symbolism. Even though
the poems were told in different point of view, the theme love was both still present
in each poem. In Leaving the Motel Snodgrass uses first person as a way to show the

This couple does everything to make sure they will avoid being caught. They make
sure they do not take anything from one another that someone may accidently find
and they agree to unrumpled the second bed so there will be less suspicion. In
contrast, Olds poem tones and mood differ from Snodgrass, as it feels Olds is
against sex without love. This make the mood and tone of the poem seem scorned
upon like if it were a sin. However, in lines 8 9 the mood and tone changes with the
repetition of come to the. With this repetition, the narrator purposely stutters in
order to portray a climax from a sexual experience. In addition, the word God was
added into the middle of the sentence because the word god is often repeated in
sexual experiences. The use of symbolism by each poet conveys a powerful
representation of different ways throughout each poem. While going through their
checklist, Snodgrass reminds himself to put an aspirin in the flowers to keep them
preserved. These flowers symbolize the love and affection the couple shares
hoping to keep their love preserved as well when they return to their normal lives.
This symbolism connection is the only sort emotion Snodgrass uses in his poem to
show these two were intimate. In contrast to keeping love preserved, Olds compares
people who have sex without love as beautiful ice skaters (Line 3). This line has a
much deeper meaning because as the first line states, How do they

The invasion was prompted by a military coup, which ousted the revolutionary government, it restored the constitutional government. A four day full curfew was declared, anybody found on the street during this period would be shot on sight. It has been revealed that the Governor General appealed for the invasion via diplomatic channels (Martin, Doughlas). American officials cited the building of the over 9,000 feet long Point Salines International Airport as a project meant to facilitate the conduit of soviet arms into the region. The U.S government felt that the Soviet Cuban militarization of Grenada was a significant security threat, as proven by the abnormally long runway under construction at the airport. Intelligence sources also indicated soviet interest in the island. The American students were the most mentioned as the factor that tipped the scales. The invasion commenced at 0500 hours on the morning of 25th October 1983. This was after the forces took off from the Grantley Adams International Airport in the neighboring Barbados islands after a refueling stopover. • 6. A Note On Chinas Fixed Exchange Rate The topic of Chinas fixed exchange rate has remained as one of the fiercest subject in global macroeconomics for an extensive period of time. A fixed exchange rate or pegged exchange rate is where a currency value is fixed against the value of another currency, in the example of China, the Yuan or Renminbi it is currently pegged to the US dollar, it has been fixed to the US since 1994 however within the past decade it has been allowed to appreciate a little at a time. But in times of economical difficulties such as 2008 China halted the Yuan s appreciation as worldwide demand for Chinese products slumped due to the global financial crisis (Picardo, 2009), this shows the given Chinas recent economic difficulties government may keep the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... China is able to persuade foreign manufacturing to their coasts as the cost is so low. For example, as the dollar is stronger than the Yuan this would means that a T shirt can cost a company five times more to produce and manufacture in the US as compared to China. This has led international companies to seek the cheap labour costs moving their manufacturing process to China, well known brands such as: Harley Davison. Apple, Ikea and The Body Shop all own or have contract factories within China. These huge global companies were obviously provoked to move manufacturing to China because of the the low costs, therefore more profit for them, this was all caused by China having in place the fixed exchange rate. Consequently, it would seem that having the fixed exchange rate massively benefitted China. Throughout the past decade, China has become a Manufacturing Powerhouse (Eloot, 2013), low salaries plus a strong supply base, makes an equation for ideal platform for exports, which china defiantly benefited from. In 2011 China became the worlds largest producer of manufactured goods and still remains to be, Factory Asia now makes almost half the world s goods (The Economist, 2015). This has had a positive domino effect upon the wider economy in China, living standards have doubled and the countries GDP per captia has doubled in the last 10 years an achievement that took the UK 150 years to do (Eloot, 2013) This

  • 10. When Reflecting On What Made Me The Writer I Am Today, When reflecting on what made me the writer I am today, my first thought was, Well clearly, I m a writer because I m a reader. As a child, I devoured all kinds of books and spent hours on exploits in different worlds, with Harry and the gang at Hogwarts, or with the Pevensie kids in Narnia. And I thought that inevitably and gradually, reading is what led me to create my own universes and stories through writing. In fact, one of my first memories associated with writing was winning third place at a story competition in the 1st or 2nd grade (high prestige, I know). It was a formative experience that led me to being a better journalist, and to seek out this opportunity at the Writing Place. Doing that job made me pay more attention to spelling, dates and even capitalization. But most importantly, it taught me that the writer puts together most of the puzzle, and the editor is the one who puts the last pieces in and makes the puzzle look polished. One role is nothing without the other. Without a writer, the editor has no article to improve. Without an editor, the writer wouldn t be able to refine their story. Even if writing is personal, it can take a village to raise a good story and make it the best it can be. At The Daily, writers always had their desk editors with whom they could bounce ideas off, and in turn the copy editors had to discuss with writers how they could fine tune their stories, whether that was citing stories properly, or remembering to write The Daily instead of the Daily. Not only do I like the painting for it s beautiful visual aspects but it s emotional beauty. It doesn t necessarily make me sad. It more so opens my eyes to the reality of the story. The painting was designed to be different from the previous depictions of the last supper. Leonardo has given his take on the psychology of each of the figures in the painting. The emotions of each of the apostles is overwhelming and ultimately give off the affect of a subtle chaos due to the fact that Christ has just told them one of them will betray him.
  • 28. The impact of Vasco da Gama on India Vasco da Gama s revolutionary sea expedition to India is one of the most crucial moments in the entire history of exploration. Till the middle of 15th century, Portugal was the foremost seafaring country in Europe. King Manuel I: the ruler of Portugal hired about four ships for the voyage around Africa to the legendary land of India. King Manuel I knew that India was a huge cradle of variety of spices, which were extremely rare to see in other places and moreover they were pretty expensive in Europe. The king had also noticed that the Muslim merchants transported the spices by caravans through Arabian deserts and sold them in the markets of the Mediterranean ports. King Manuel I expected a new sea route to India, as that would enable him to import spices directly. This achievement was very important for Portugalas they could trade and earn money a lot of money from it. India was filled with spices: Pepper was a very common and the most used spice, it was used to preserve food and to flavor spoiled meat. Pepper was originated from Cochin and Malabar Coast in India. Cloves and cinnamon were equally used. They were used for keeping the food hygienic and ventilated. They were also sprinkled across the floor to avoid foot odor from entering the room. Many spices were also used for the cure of various illnesses and deadly diseases. India was the foremost spice trader for most of the countries including Europe.

The French took over Vietnam and established Indochina in the 1880s. I am happy that I learned numerous concepts that have helped me improve my writing, such as grammar concepts, APA format, word choice, persuasive essays, and cause and effect essays. First, there are several grammar concepts that I feel like I will remember. The FANBOYS mnemonic device I learned in this class will help me remember coordinating conjunctions (For, And, Nor, But, Or, Yet, So). We need to use a comma + a conjunction (and, but, for, nor, yet, or, so) to connect two independent clauses. Also, I learned what independent and dependent clauses are. A dependent clause does not express a complete thought, and an independent clause does express a complete thought. Next, I feel like I improved on parallelism. I know I had a few problems with parallelism in this class. I am confident that I will check to see if my sentences are in parallel form when I conjoin multiple instances of the same type of word class or phrase. My public school was not the best at teaching students, so I feel like my grammar skills have always been lacking. This class makes me feel confident that I have improved my grammar skills tremendously. Everyone needs to refresh their grammar skills at least a few times a year because using grammar correctly is important. Improving my grammar skills has always been important to me because I will be taking more English classes in the future. I am not going to let a poor public school education
