Family communication refers to both instrumental and affective exchanges between members. Instrumental communication shares factual information, while affective communication shares emotions. Healthy families communicate well in both areas. There are also two dimensions of family communication - conversation orientation, which is the openness of interaction and discussion of thoughts/feelings, and conformity orientation, which is the emphasis on similar attitudes, beliefs, and values. The four patterns of family communication are laissez-faire, protective, consensual, and pluralistic, which vary based on levels of conversation and conformity orientation.

We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.
1. •Family communication refers to the way verbal and non-verbal information is exchanged between
family members. It enables members to express their needs, wants, and concerns to each other.
•It is through communication that family members are able to resolve the unavoidable problems that
arise in all families.
2. Communication can be divided into two different areas: instrumental and affective.
Instrumental communication is the exchange of factual information that enables individuals
to fulfil common family functions
Affective communication is the way individual family members share their emotions with
one another
Some families function extremely well with instrumental communication, yet
have great difficulty with affective communication. Healthy families are able
to communicate well in both areas.
3. Two communication dimensions: Conversation orientation and Conformity orientation.
Conversation orientation::: the extent to which families foster open interaction among family
members about their thoughts and feelings.
o In families at the high end of this dimension, members interact frequently and for large
amounts of time.
o In families at the low end of conversation orientation, family members interact less
frequently and discuss fewer topics openly with one another.
Conformity orientation::: Conformity orientationis the extent to which families encourage all
members to have similar attitudes, beliefs, and values.
o Interactions in families at the high end of this dimension typically emphasize obedience to
parents and the interdependence of family members.
o Conversely, families at the low end of conformity orientation encourage individuality in
family members’ thoughts and feelings and tend to be less cohesive.
5. Laissez-faire families are low in both conversation and conformity orientation.Children in
these families are relatively likely to be influenced by social ties outside of the family.
Pluralistic families are high in conversation orientation and low in conformity orientation
Children in pluralistic families learn to think independently and to value rational
argumentation.
Protective families are low in conversation orientation and high in conformity orientation.
Children in protective families learn to avoid conflict and not to question authority figures
outside the family system.
Consensual families are high in both conversation and conformity orientation. Children in
consensual families tend to evaluate messages according to how consistent they are with their
parents’ attitudes, beliefs, and values.
6. Good communication between family members where we feel valued, respected and
understood is one of life’s great joys. But often Communication Boulders what we say or how
we say it builds a wall between us and those we love and blocks effective communication.
Removing them from our conversations will immediately lead to effective communication.
Becoming aware of these blocks is the first step to eliminate them.
