Rome began declining in the 2nd century CE due to internal problems such as higher taxes, economic hardship, and declining agriculture and population. Additionally, the military became less disciplined and loyal to Rome over time. Though strong emperors like Diocletian and Constantine slowed the decline, Rome ultimately fell in 476 CE when Germanic tribes conquered the city, marking the end of the Roman Empire.
