9. 9) FAIRMONT DRUMMIES
20 August 2015
Dear Karen & Drummies
The Forum would like to take this opportunity
to express our gratitude and thanks for yet
another fabulous event, One to One Day.
Each year seems to just get better and
better, and we are so delighted to be able to
partner with you in this initiative, and to see
the joy and excitement it brings to so many
people.
We are constantly amazed by the
willingness, enthusiasm and generosity
shown by the entertainers each year,
despite the challenges brought about by the
change of venue and late confirmation of
the venue this year. The Fairmont
drummies are always a highlight for the
participants!
As you know, the Forum invites all the
participants from our member centres and
co-ordinates their volunteers, as well as
coordinating transport requests for those
facilities requiring transport.
This is a major undertaking, but always
rewarding for us to see the delight on the
faces of those invited guests for
whom this is such a special day.
Thank you for enriching the lives of
more than 2,800 of our members
who joined us on One-to-One Day.
Kind regards

10. 10) E-GAMING CLUB
Last weekend Fairmont hosted the 20th
MWEB Western Cape LAN Championships for eSports. It
was a 2-day event, starting early Saturday morning and ending late Sunday evening at 20h00. It
was a very successful event with approximately 100 school learners from across the province.
Saturday results:
League of Legends: Fairmont finished 2nd
. They qualify for national team trials later this year. If
they are successful, they have the chance to go on an all-expenses paid
trip to the World Championships in South Korea.
Members of this team: Daniel Tang, Mingu Kang, Nicholas Mortlock and
Jayden Gillman.
Our league of Legends team 2014 also received
their National Colours and will play an online test
match against Austria later this year.
The members who received their National colours:
Seung Ju Lee, Seug Ju Min, Mingu Kang, Nicholas
Mortlock and Eric Larsen
Brazilian Checkers: Ms Bosch from Fairmont High School
remained undefeated and she received Provincial Colours.
Ms Bosch has been selected to represent South Africa at the
World Draughts – 64 Championship 2015 in Russia, from 2 -
11 October, all expenses paid. The prize money for this
event is $64,000 US. Good luck, Ms Bosch.
Morabaraba: Mrs Crouse from Fairmont remained
undefeated and received Provincial Colours.
She also qualified to participate in the national team trials
happening later this year.
Sunday:
Dota: After a very tense tournament, our 2nd
team finally beat the 1st
team, Dota, with 5 seconds
to spare. In doing so, they finished 3rd
overall against very strong competition. They
received their provincial colours and therefore qualify for National team trials later this
year.
11. The 2nd
Team Dota also finished
3rd
overall nationally, and are
currently ranked 3rd
in South
Africa.
The team that played was Ehber
Burger, Nicholas de Lange, James
Vermeulen, Phillip Harrison, and
.Michael Middleton
Track mania Nations
Zander Fritz was crowned champion and received his Provincial
colours.
Fifa 15: Andrew Reeve won the competition on Xbox, but
then there were some complaints from the
PlayStation players that it is unfair because they
are not used to the Xbox controls. The tourna-
ment was then played on the Xbox and Play-
Station. After collating the results from the Xbox
and PlayStation leg, Andrew Reeve was crowned the Western Province champ overall
against some very tough competition.
Andrew who is currently a Grade 9 learner, competed against players 20 years and over.
This is a wonderful achievement for Andrew, and we wish him luck at the national team
trials later this year.
Counterstrike: Our Counterstrike team finished 2nd
overall. They also qualify for national trials
next year.
Well done to each learner who participated at the championships. E-sports is a fast developing sport
at Fairmont and was only introduced at the
beginning of this year. Our learners have proven
to be very successful in their competitions.
A special thanks goes out to Thomas de Lange,
the team manager, for keeping everything
running smoothly.
Our 3rd
Dota team that consist of Grade 8’s have
improved a lot this year and we are looking
forward to what these learners will be able to
achieve once they reach matric.

15) LIBRARIAN’S CHOICE
PAPER TOWNS
by JOHN GREEN
The thing about Margo Roth Spiegelman is that really all I could
ever do was let her talk; and then when she stopped talking,
encourage her to go on due to the fact that:
1. I was incontestably in love with her;
2. She was absolutely unprecedented in every way; and
3. She never really asked me any questions.
Quentin Jacobson has always loved Margo from afar so when
she climbs through his window to summon him on an all-night
road trip of revenge, he cannot help but follow. But the next
morning, Q turns up at school and Margo doesn’t. She’s left
clues to her disappearance, like a trail of breadcrumbs for Q to
follow.
And everything leads to one unavoidable question:
WHO IS THE REAL MARGO?

This Saturday marks the end for many matric players in various sport teams and their involvement
in the Winter Sports we offer at Fairmont.
This season has been very rewarding. A big thank you to our parents who have supported our winter

Your effort on the sports fields is well acknowledged.
Have a good weekend.
Yours sincerely
