Kia Ora, Talofa and Welcome to the last newsletter for 2014.
First I want to say a BIG THANK YOU to all parents who have helped in any way shape or form over the past year, this in-cludes
school trips, taking sports teams, supporting me in the school garden and providing raffle items for the PTA. All this
help does enhance our students schooling and ensures that as a school we can offer a variety of extra-curricula activities.
To the Board of Trustees - the staff say a very big thanks for governing the school - your input to achieving the community’s
vision for Tisbury is very much worth the effort. From the Staff we would like to say thank you to Angela Burnett - who is
resigning from the Board after 8 years. Your experience and support have been much appreciated.
Staff also thank the PTA for their fantastic efforts in raising those extra funds. This year saw the two raffles, Easter and
Christmas, and in Term 2 the major Talent Show which was such a success.
I also thank the staff for the efforts this year. Each year we work hard to ensure that your child gets the best possible educa-tion,
in the most meaningful way, and this takes dedicated and committed staff, which includes Teachers, Teachers Aides,
Administration Office, Cleaner and Caretaker.
Next week is the last week of the school year for 2014. School officially finishes:
12:00pm on Friday, 12 December.
During this last week there are a number of events happening, so please check out the “diary” column to ensure you know
what , when and where things are to occur.
END OF YEAR ASSEMBLY: - we are hoping for a fine day and that this will be held, like last year, on the school’s tennis
court - however, the longterm forecast is not looking the best with rain (but warm) weather. The alternative is to have it in the
Waimatua Hall - just three minutes down the main road towards Gorge Road. The format will be the same - 1:30 Wel-come,
with each room performing an item, followed by end of year certiciates for overall students from each classroom who
have showed and used: Great Values, Academic Excellence and The Most Improved Student. The assembly should last
approximately 1 hour. At the conclusion, parents are welcome to take their children home.
If we have to move to the Waimatua Hall - students will be bussed to the hall at approximately 1:00pm. A text will be sent out
to all parents advising if the venue is to be changed from the school to the hall.
Saussage Sizzle: Prior to the final assembly, we invite parents and families to a sausage sizzle lunch (bring your own extra
food). Orders for sausages as usual, name, number of sausages and room on an envelope put into your child’s lunch basket
in the morning.
Classroom’s and Teachers for 2015:
Next year the Tisbury Teaching Team will be:
Mrs Jacqui Ferris - Room Kingswell - Years 5/6
Ms Katie Harris - Room Waituna - Years 3/4/5
Miss Lyn Cunningham - Room Oreti - Years 2/3
Miss Anita Cunningham - Room Awarua - Years 1/2
Mrs Joy Maheno/Mrs Noelene Marshall - Room Mataura - New Entrants/Yr1
Mrs Maheno will be training for Reading Recovery and Mrs Marshall will be the release Teacher.
(Please note: Room Mataura and Awarua are swapping places, this will bring back a flow of the classroom starting with New
Entrants moving to Year 6 from one end of the school to the other.)
Support Staff:
Teachers Aides: Mrs Tania Olive; Mrs Joy McNamara; Mrs Jayne Cloake
Administration: Mrs Mary Forsythe
Clearner: Mrs Glenys Hawkes
Caretaker: Mr Peter Hughes
We look forward to an exciting year with an overarching learning theme of “History” . We asked the students what would they
like to learn about and Room Kingswell using a Solo Graphic Organiser made the connections between the ideas of: “war”,
volcanoes, dinasours, animals, places - to things in the past, ie history.
Some Housekeeping for the end of the year:
The Canteen is closed as from today - we have 8 pies left if students would like them in the next day or two.
Heat-ups are finished today - the pie warmer is being taken apart for cleaning and we do not have the facility to
heat up food.
* Safety Vests will be collected next Wednesday (10th December). Please ensure they are clean.
Farewell to those students who are leaving us this year, especially the Year 6 Students, as we wish you all the best for your
future education opportunities. Finally, we hope that all our families have a happy and safe holiday time (and fingers crossed
for some sun), we look forward to seeing you in 2015.
