2. Task 2: Idea Development and Planning U9 2.1
You could create a mood board of images related to your product. They could be inspirational or visually
interesting. Analyse what you have gathered.
Decide on content and think about how you will structure your piece – consider the conventions of your chosen
style/genre, think about the best methods to appeal to your audience.
Finally work out a production schedule for the project. Once you have a final proposal, begin to plan how you
intend to realise your project and what you will need to create/collect.
Planning will vary depending on if you are doing a web series, podcast or a fanzine.
Web-series: A script, storyboard, organisational docs and clearance forms for your contributors/sources.
Fanzine: Content outline, visual style, pagination, organisational documents.
Podcast: Script, organisational docs, clearance forms for your contributors/sources.
7. This is from a short documentary on homelessness in
Bristol. It is a mixture between interviews and other
shots that show the current situation. This is similar
to how I want to execute my project however I wont
do it on the same topic but I do want to have a
mixture of styles.
8. This is a short documentary about the Sherpa
people. I really enjoyed watching this
documentary because it inspired me to make
the most of my education because some people
aren’t as lucky. I think this documentary was
clever in terms of getting the audience to feel
inspired and a key part in this was the music
because at happy moments the music reflected
this. So this is something I could include in my
documentary because the music helps the
audience react to certain moments
9. Looking at this documentary I like the techniques used for example the transitions used.
One in particular that stood out what the fading between the mountain and then when it
cuts back to the people, I like this because it connects the two and it makes it flow
smoothly. This is something that I should consider using in my project because I want to
have a mix between interviews and then other things to fill the space so it breaks up the
interview
10. This documentary about the desert keeps
to two colour schemes and it works
effectively and looks really good so this is
something to consider when doing my
project. It is important to stick to two
colours because it avoids too many
contrasting colours and it keeps it looking
smooth and well put together
11. If I take this image from a Louis Theroux
documentary, the colours are neutral and the
more important ones are bolder for example
louis himself and the stop sign
This is a contemporary style and the
documentary discuss the COVID-19 impact
around Sydney. The colours reflect the topic of
the documentary because the blue represents
loneliness and isolation and this is what was
happening during the peak of the pandemic
12.
13. I have chosen to do a short documentary on decision making, I plan on interviewing people and
getting there answers to certain questions. Additionally I want to cut between shots of the interview
and then footage of different things for example people walking down the street or cars driving etc.
Whilst this footage is being shown I want someone to narrate over the top and ask rhetorical
questions that make the audience think about the decisions they make. I want to avoid going into
anything scientific because it could get too much in a short amount of time so I want to focus on
production of it and making sure everything looks good etc. To appeal to the audience I need to make
sure that it doesn’t get too boring and this is why I will have different cuts used to change what is
being shown so then it isn’t too continuous, and to make sure it looks intriguing so use different
effects in post production.
CONTENT
14. I am doing a ‘web series’ so for this I will need to produce a script, however
due to my project including interviews I can't script the whole thing but I can
write down the questions. I will also have to produce a storyboard that plans
out my video. I will also have to get the people that I am interviewing to sign
some forms saying they are happy to take part
PLANNING
15.
16.
17. 1. Write the first draft of the script and complete a proposal
2. Get a list of the people I want to interview
3. Film the interviews on one day, then film the filler footage on another day
4. Go over all the footage and see if I need to refilm anything
5. If I need to refilm anything then do it, if not put everything together and then start the post
production
6. Finish the post production and watch it over to make sure everything looks good
7. Evaluation
