Ey 3 act math tasks april 24th

Editor's Notes

  1. Most importantly - To develop a culture of collaborative inquiry amongst the professional staff that will ultimately lead to our common goal of…
  2. Using 3 act math tasks promotes learning math through inquiry and problem solving approaches. It helps to uncover student’s thinking and getting to deeper levels of understanding. We want to validate the things that students see (notice) and the questions that they have (wonder about).
  3. A little bit of inspiration..
  4. Students work through a story to find the answers of their own questions and those that are presented. Show Act 1
  5. Collect all guesses..chart them..create bar graphs?
  6. Post it notes for a visual
  7. Google forms?
  8. Use padlet to record and display our guesses.
  9. Engage kids in some estimation. Could use a pad let, or white boards or…
  10. Likely going to want some measurements? of cabinet and of post its?
  11. Which one would you want? Tell your partner why? Did you change your mind on which one you would want?
  12. Share your thinking with your partner. Does any of your thinking change? do you learn a new way?
  13. The Answer: Students will want to know the answer..to compare, revise etc. How could we account for the error if the practical vs.theoretical are a bit off?
  14. The colour coding aligns with the color code used in the newer pedagogies for deeper learning resource. There is a brief description on the front page for each of the 6 c’s
  15. Many students can get to the same outcome using varied ways. Each one is an effective method.
