DSpace-CRIS is an extended version of DSpace that offers a powerful and flexible data model to describe not only publications but all research entities and their relationships. DSpace-CRIS 7 will feature a new Angular UI and REST API in addition to functionality for compliance with OpenAire, integrating publications from external sources, bidirectional ORCID integration, and synchronizing with other systems. DSpace-CRIS also extends data modeling capabilities and provides tools for data quality, metadata management, and extensibility.

2. DSpace-CRIS is an “extended” version of DSpace,
the most popular repository platform in the world.
Since 2009, DSpace-CRIS offers a powerful and
flexible data model to describe not just
publications, but all the entities that populate the
research environment and their meaningful
relationships.

6. Enhanced statistics
● Aggregated information about the trend of viewing and downloading over time,
choosing the suitable date range
● Complete and aggregated statistics for entities (total views / downloads of an
author’s publications)
● Data are visualized in form of different graphs (pie chart, line or map), that can
be exported in .png or .jpg format
● The tabular raw data are included as well and it is also possible to search
large tables (top 100 items) and export the data as spreadsheets (xls or csv)
● For the whole repository or single communities and collections: statistics are
available for content and workflow
11. What’s new in DSpace-CRIS 7
DSpace-CRIS 7 is based on DSpace 7, so it will
feature a new Angular UI and a new REST API
In addition to DSpace 7, DSpace-CRIS is
already equipped to face the new challenges,
since versions 5 and 6.
12. How to face these challenges?
Part I: functionalities
Out-of-box functionalities to support real business
processes:
● Compliance with OpenAire guidelines for CRIS systems
● Publications feed from external sources (ORCID, Scopus,
WOS, PubMed, ArXiv, ADS, etc.)
● Bidirectional ORCID integration
● Synchronization framework from HR, accounting
systems, etc.
13. Compliance with OpenAire
The OpenAIRE Guidelines helps
repository managers expose
publications, datasets and CRIS
metadata via the OAI-PMH
protocol in order to integrate
with OpenAIRE infrastructure.
https://guidelines.openaire.eu/
19. Lookup for entities population
Linked entities can be
looked up from
external systems and
created on the fly if
needed
20. Data quality
● Claim (Unclaim) publication
● Automatic attribution with Confidence Level
● Claim profile
● Deduplication
21. Metadata management
Fine-grained control
on access to
metadata and their
management
Authorized users can

metadata values

23. DSpace-GLAM
A Digital Library Management System built by
4Science to meet the needs of Cultural Heritage
institutions.
Flexible and extensible data model inherited from
DSpace-CRIS to manage relevant metadata
standards and specific conceptual models (such as
LIDO and CIDOC-CRM)
With dedicated add-ons for digital objects
curation, fruition and sharing
24. Resources and support
(extending the community)
● Wiki https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSPACECRIS/DSpace-CRIS+Home
● Community channels: DSpace mailing list, Slack
● 100 hours/y community support reviewing and
managing github issues
● DSpace-CRIS User Group (coming in Autumn)
25. Roadmap
● Final release of DSpace-CRIS 7 within 3-6 months from the
official release of DSpace 7
We are working on:
● Angular UI for DSpace-CRIS 7
● REST webservice toward DSpace-CRIS 7 (Angular-based)
● test site for DSpace 7 REST API already available at
https://dspace7.4science.it/)
● the DSpace-CRIS master branch now contains the REST 7
API webapp with support for the CRIS JAVA API
26. From DSpace to DSpace-CRIS/GLAM
• data migration without information loss
• automatic creation of entities and relationships during
the migration process
To version 7:
• effort needed for a new UI
• effort needed for new webservices
