Extended Project Qualification Plan
My overall extended project was successful and my documentary received numerous
positive comments. Creating this artefact project was enjoyable yet I faced various
challenges. My initial proposal was not completely met and I eventually did not
complete the other blog post ideas that I originally came up with.
First of all, I planned out each stage of my production and recorded this information
on my activity log book which my teacher assessor provided me with. I began with
creating my blog using the popular website blogger.com as I had previous
experience using the site in order to publish coursework for my other subjects. I was
fond of the idea of creating a blog as it enabled myself to track all my tasks and to
present my final project creatively and interactively. Using blogger also allowed me
to embed presentations that I had published onto other media sites and platforms.
This increased my creativity as my audience were then able to access these
embedded presentations. The other media platforms I used to publish my work
included websites such as YouTube and Prezi.
My initial idea to create a documentary was inspired by BCC Three’s collection of
Stacey Dooley’s documentaries in which hshe explored a variety of issues worldwide
such as cannabis and drug use in third world countries. I was particularly inspired by
her work as she aimed her productions at young people whom consistently were
tuned in to BBC Three. Creating a documentary was a first time experience for me as
I had never attempted in creating one. This was extremely fun however did cause a
lot of stress and consisted of constant hard work. I began with planning my ideas
and interview questions regarding my topic. This was effective in allowing me to
pursue other ideas in which I had incorporated from other TV shows that had
inspired me such as Gogglebox. I particularly liked the idea of screening a question
and then inputting clips of responses to create a sense of contrast between my
participants’ opinions. I then came up with the idea to film what I felt was ‘beautiful’
in my every day surroundings. This included aspects such as nature, anials,
architechture, food, appearance, knowledge, art and creativity, technology and
human interaction. I found these aspects important when defining beauty as the
topic is widely misunderstood for just being appearance based. I set out to express a
message to my audience that beauty is not just appearance and can be anything
possible which pleases our individual aesthetic senses. I retrieved this definition of
beauty from the Oxford Dictionary, which enabled me to work around this definition
and to show my audience a different perspective on beauty.

For my interview I came up with the following questions to find out what people
really felt about the topics. I opened up my interviews with the question “Can beauty
be defined” which introduced the topic directly to find out my audience’s initial
thoughts on the topic. My next questions were carefully worded and successful in the
responses gathered.
In order to edit my documentary, I used my home iMac to access a video editing
application software ‘Adobe Premiere cs5’. This software was really easy to use and
created a professional look to my production yet allowing me to edit neatly and
efficiently, As this was my first attempt in editing a video, I resulted in using YouTube
tutorials to help create my ideas and to edit using various tools such as transition
effects and video appearance effects. Using Adobe Premiere also allowed me to
input background music and my own voiceover to make it more personal as I was
able to interact with my audience, explaining to them what I found was beautiful.
This software also enabled me to crop and place different clips to suit the voiceover.
This create professionalism within my documentary. Towards the end of the editing
process I decided on getting a tattoo on my chest in dedication to my first
independent documentary, based on a topic that meant a lot to me. This was a risky
decision but turned out well and mad my production different from others. Once
completed, I waited over 12hours for my production to upload on to worldwide
media sharing site YouTube, enabling me to track how many views I had and for my
viewers to leave positive and negative feedback for future advice when creating
other productions like this one.
I used the website SlideShare to upload important documents onto my blog such as
the bibliography, planning/proposal sheet as well as this evaluation. I found this
useful as I used Microsoft Word the best software for typing up vast amounts of
information. SlideShare enabled me to embed these documents onto my blog,
allowing my audience to see my progress as well as my hard work in which I have
explained in this evaluation. Another site I especially found easy and fun to use was
Prezi as it enabled my presentations to be interactive and look more appealing to
audience members of all ages; being easy to read and clearly, neatly laid out. I began
using prezi when exploring other cultures as I pointed out individual countries and
elaborated on beauty traditions which originated from there. Unfortunately, due to
the stress of other coursework and obligations I was unable to complete this idea
alongside my ideas to create surveys and record results. However, all my efforts were
essentially put into creating my main production, the documentary. If re-done, these
tasks would be completed way before my main product as I would really have liked
to include these findings. However, cultural opinions were presented through my
interviews as I recorded responses from individuals of different cultures and

backgrounds whom were able to express traditions. In conclusion, I am content with
my final product and believe it was successful.
