Pakistan's monthly exports for July-April 2006-07 averaged $1378 million, above the $1346 million average for the same period last year. Pakistan's exports remain highly concentrated in a few items like cotton, leather, rice, synthetic textiles and sports goods, which make up 77.2% of total exports. While the degree of concentration has changed little, shares of higher value textile exports like bedwear and towels have increased in recent years.

3. Concentration of Exports
Pakistan's exports are highly
concentrated in a few items namely,
cotton, leather, rice, synthetic textiles
and sports goods. These five
categories of exports account for 77.2
percent of total exports during the
first nine months of 2006-07 with
cotton manufacturers alone
contributing 61.5 percent, followed by
leather (4.5%), rice (6.6%), synthetic
textiles (3.0%) and sports goods

5. The performance of current fiscal year it
appears that Pakistan is slowly moving
towards higher value added exports in
textile sector. The shares of bed wear,
towels, and knitwear have increased over
the last seven years. The shares of other
categories of textile exports either have
remained stagnant or have changed
marginally.

8. Direction of Exports
Pakistan trade with a large number of
countries its exports are however highly
concentrated in few countries including
USA, Germany, Japan, UK, Hong Kong,
Dubai and Saudi Arabia which account for
one- half of its exports. The United States
is the single largest export market for
Pakistan, accounting for 28.4 percent of its
exports followed by U.K and Germany.
