3. Vital Statistics of Indian Agri & Food Exports
India’s share in global Agri & Food exports is 2.4%.
2. India’s Agri export contributes nearly 12% of total merchandise
exports.
3. Value of Agri export is Value of Agri export is US$ 38.49 billion (FY 2019-
20).
4. Top five states for agriculture export are Gujarat, Maharashtra, Uttar
Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Haryana.

Food Exports
I. Promotion of Export Oriented Production (The Agricultural and Processed
Food Products Export Development Authority)
6. II. Infrastructure for Transportation, Handling and Storage.
Trade Infrastructure for Export Scheme (TIES) was launched by Govt. of India in 2017.
The main Features are
The objective of the TIES is to enhance export competitiveness by bridging gaps in export
infrastructure, creating focused export infrastructure and first-mile and last-mile
connectivity.
The scheme would provide assistance for setting up and up-gradation of infrastructure
projects like
Border Haats (border markets, were envisaged by the governments of India and
Bangladesh as an instrument primarily to generate livelihood for people at the border
areas of the two countries that are marred with limited access to development)
Land customs stations (Routes for import and export of goods by land or inland water
ways)
cold chains
Dry ports (300 Ports) (CONCOR)
Export warehousing and packaging
SEZs and ports/airports cargo terminuses
7. III. Support for R&D and Quality Assurance.
Assistance for installing quality testing equipments
Assistance of installing quality management, quality assurance and quality control
systems such as ISO series, HACCP, BRC, GAP, etc. including consultancy, quality
improvement and certification etc.
Setting up/upgradation/expansion of laboratories by APEDA or any other Government or
Public Sector agency
Assistance for upgradation of technical and managerial skills through on spot training in
India/abroad
Assistance to carry out relevant applied Research & Development activities for export
enhancement
8. IV. Fixing of Quality Standards and Specifications
The export control system is operated by the Export Inspection Council of
India (EIC), India's official export certification body, through its field
organizations
Over the years, nearly 1000 commodities have been notified by the
government for pre-shipment inspection and certification covering such food
and agricultural products.
However, presently only sensitive items such as marine products, egg
products, dairy products, poultry products and honey are under compulsory
export certification by the Export Inspection Council of India.
9. V. Improving Packaging of Products
Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP) - The Institute endeavors to improve the
standard of packaging needed for the promotion of exports and create
infrastructural facilities for overall packaging improvement in India.

10. Training in Various Aspects of the Scheduled Products Industries.
• India is known for its traditional agriculture, which was essentially organic, is
picking up fast, the modern tenets of standard based organic agriculture and
emerging as the hub for organic food products and its raw materials.
• Robust mechanism for accreditation and certification has earned international
recognition. In terms of the total farm area and number of producers
• India is the home for largest arable cultivated land under organic certification
process and about half of the total growers in the world.
• In terms of policy support and Government interventions also India stand
apart and is poised to have a well organized organic agriculture sector,
supported with series of institutions and supportive policies of central and
state governments.
11. Market Development and Promotion.
Assistance to exporters for use of packaging material as per standards and
specifications developed or adopted by APEDA
Assistance for conducting surveys, feasibility studies etc. for the common
benefit of a number of exporters who may be the members of the
Associations/Boards/ Apex Bodies etc./belonging to a group being
assisted/serviced by Govt./Semi-Government Organization
Export promotion by APEDA for undertaking activities like buyer-seller meet,
product promotion, exchange of delegations, participation in
exhibitions/fairs/events etc.
Assistance for development and establishment of brand image of selected
high value added processed food products in the overseas markets for generic
products only and be done in partnership with India Brand Equity Foundation
(IBEF), where ever possible.
