This presentation will give you an overview of the
Bachelor of Business programme at Bahrain
Polytechnic. It will help you in exploring this
programme and industry – helping you make
informed decisions before choosing your major.
In particular this presentation will cover what a
degree in Business will enable you to do, how
will you be different than other Business
graduates, what the entry requirements are,
what the Majors are, and possible career
options as well as other important information.
No matter what your aspirations are,
Business surely resides in them.
Graduates with a business degree can be found in
nearly every industry and sector of the economy;
engineering, ICT, hospitality, education,
manufacturing, government, transport and even as
self-employed entrepreneurs. The future
opportunities for business graduates are limitless!
What will a degree in Business give me?
The Bachelor of Business will give you a broad
understanding of the business environment as well
as well as the necessary technical skills to allow you
to be successful in your chosen career those skills
include both the technical and employability skills.
Amongst other things, you will be able to:
• understand the business environment and how
businesses work in society;
• be knowledgeable about different business
strategies;
• become self starters;

• apply skills such as research and critical thinking to
any situation;
• understand real-life sociological and ethical issues;
• develop some of the life skills that are required for
sound decision making such as personal finance and
organizational skills; and

How will I be different from the others?
It has been said that the market is full of
Business graduates. This is not completely
true. Our graduates have always had one
of the top employment rates.
Most of our first Business graduates obtained
employment within 6 months of finishing their
studies in many different organizations
including small and medium sized
businesses, large companies and government
organizations. To learn about what makes our

How is it delivered?
Producing work ready graduates is at
the centre of our the Bahrain
Polytechnic mission. To do this we use
the following:
• Problem Based Learning (PBL);
• Work Integrated Learning (WIL); and
• Employability Skills (ES).

describe the generic competencies that
are needed by all people for effective
participation in work. ‘Employability Skills’
are the skills you need to enter, stay in
and progress in the world of work.

How is it delivered?
The programme is delivered through a mixture
of interactive classroom lectures that involve
case scenario analysis, problem-solving tasks,
research projects, computer lab workshops,
online forums and discussions, self-directed
learning, small business set-up experiences
and group tasks.
These are the skills that the market needs
from Business graduates
To join the Business programme you need to
be competent in English and Maths. You
can show this by either:
• Passing the English and Maths selection
tests at the required entry level; or
• Passing English and General Maths in the
Certificate of Academic Preparation (CAP).
What are the requirements?
You can choose one of these five majors:
• Accounting

• Banking and Finance
• Human Resource Management
OR
Take a double-major through combining any of the
two majors above.

What can I be in the future?
How long will it take?
If you are a full time student it will normally
take you eight (8) semesters or four years
to earn your Bachelor of Business degree.
If you choose to do a double major, then it
should take a little longer, about four and a
half years.
• In the first two years of the programme you will
study core business courses that will be the
foundation for your major subjects.
• At the end of the second year, you will be invited
to apply for the major of your choice. By then, you
are expected to have achieved a minimum of 210
credits.

How can I find more about each major?
Once you have completed all the required
courses, it will be time for you to show that you
are ready to step into the Business world. Your
last semester of study will take the form of an
industry project (BU8099) which you need to
pass in order to graduate.

How will I be assessed?
No matter what your preferred method of
assessment is, we have got one for you. We are
aware that students have different methods of
learning and so we assess in different manners to
give you the best opportunity to succeed.
These could be:
• Practical business projects or research projects
• Written reports/projects/portfolios/essays/
reflective journals
• Presentations and case studies
• Tests and examinations
What other certificates can I obtain?
You can always go for higher studies (Masters or
PHD) or go for professional certificates such as:
• Chartered Certified Accountant
• Chartered Financial analyst (CFA)
• Certified management accountant (CMA)
• Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development
(CIPD)
