• The number of UK businesses formed continued to increase from 383,000 to 414,000
between 2015 and 2016, at a rate of 14.6% compared with a rate of 14.3% in 2015.
• The number of UK business ceasing trade also increased from 283,000 to 328,000
between 2015 and 2016, at a rate of 11.6% compared with a rate of 10.5% in 2015.
• In broad industry terms, business administration and support services had the highest
business form rate at 23.1% and finance and insurance had the highest ceasing trade
rate at 17%.

• Industries as diverse as chemicals, utilities, fashion,
health, grocery and construction all require functional
managers with a clear understanding of systems,
efficiency and operational issues.
• Opportunities exist in management and analysis roles
with employers in the private, public and voluntary
sectors.
• Graduate training schemes offered by large employers
frequently focus on commercial roles - Many give
experience in several departments but others
encourage specialisation from the outset.

• Employment opportunities in this sector can generally be split into two main areas:
• Business management
• Consultancy
• You don't need to restrict yourself solely to the business sector as the majority of organisations require
managers and consultants in order to operate effectively. Because of this, qualified individuals have
plenty of job opportunities to choose from.
• Business managers usually work general management jobs or hold specific responsibilities for a
particular area of an organisation, such as marketing, strategy planning, human resources (HR) or
information technology (IT). Some roles lean towards people management, while others focus on
project management - but most managers need skills in both areas.
• Meanwhile, consultants offer advice to organisations to help them solve problems and enhance
performance.

Further Education - Level 3 Diploma in
Business and Management
120-credit Ofqual regulated qualification and is the equivalent level to two A Levels or an Access to HE qualification.
Designed for learners who wish to progress to a business or management degree but may not have the traditional entry
qualifications usually required.
• Graded with Pass, Merit and Distinction
• 1200 learning hours, usually studied over 4.5 months
• Designed with support from universities
The Level 3 Diploma in Business is designed to provide access to higher education institutions and also provides suitable
progression to other qualifications at level 4.

Business Demography • The number of UK businesses formed continued to increase from 383,000 to 414,000 between 2015 and 2016, at a rate of 14.6% compared with a rate of 14.3% in 2015. • The number of UK business ceasing trade also increased from 283,000 to 328,000 between 2015 and 2016, at a rate of 11.6% compared with a rate of 10.5% in 2015. • In broad industry terms, business administration and support services had the highest business form rate at 23.1% and finance and insurance had the highest ceasing trade rate at 17%.

Because of this, qualified individuals have plenty of job opportunities to choose from. • Business managers usually work general management jobs or hold specific responsibilities for a particular area of an organisation, such as marketing, strategy planning, human resources (HR) or information technology (IT). Some roles lean towards people management, while others focus on project management - but most managers need skills in both areas. • Meanwhile, consultants offer advice to organisations to help them solve problems and enhance performance.

  • 9. Further Education - Level 3 Diploma in Business and Management 120-credit Ofqual regulated qualification and is the equivalent level to two A Levels or an Access to HE qualification. Designed for learners who wish to progress to a business or management degree but may not have the traditional entry qualifications usually required. • Graded with Pass, Merit and Distinction • 1200 learning hours, usually studied over 4.5 months • Designed with support from universities The Level 3 Diploma in Business is designed to provide access to higher education institutions and also provides suitable progression to other qualifications at level 4.
