2. LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
By the end of the lesson, you should be
able to:
1) note important details related to a
selection read;
2) identify the factors that influence a
selection or literary text;
3) explain how culture, history and
environment influence a selection
3. INTRODUCTION:
During the olden times, our forefathers
donโt know what scientific explanations,
formulas
or calculations are all about. They
simply explained or described things,
events and places
through stories, poems and legends.
4. They did not just create these from
purely imagination
but they were influenced by their
existing culture, history and the natural
environment where they live. They told
these forms of literature from one mouth
to another until such time that
modern scholars put them into writing.
5. One of them is a distinguished Filipino
scholar named Damiana L. Eugenio. It
was found out that some factors that
greatly influenced our world of literature
are the following: history, culture,
nature and environment.
6. INFLUENCES:
1. Culture and History:
Literature reflects both actual historical
events and the culture of a people. You
can tell what everyday life is like
through literature in a way like no other.
You learn about their technology, what
they care about, prejudices and hopes
and fears.
7. Cultural influence may be demonstrated
through human behavior, vocabulary or
language used, human emotions or
perspectives, and material items.
Historical influence may be
demonstrated through the use of
names of places or presence of
events that really took place in
history.
10. 2. Environment or Nature.
Environment and nature are always present in
literature. These may be one of the
themes of novels, short stories and the like. Many
early literary texts utilize nature to
describe origin of things or places. Environmental
influence may be shown through the
conditions of living of the characters in the story. -
