3. ANGLO-NUBIAN
• Developed in England, by
crossing British goats &
Nubian type (Jamunapari &
Zarabai).
• All-purpose goat. Heavy milk
producer & high butter fat
content (4-5%). Is a relatively
large having long & pendulous
ears. Roman nose and short-
haired. Black, red or tan are the
most common colors.
4. ANGORA
• Origin- Angora district
in Asia Minor. The imp
characteristic of the goats
is the value of the mohair
production i.e 5. 3 pds of
mohair per shearing,
staple length -12 and
15cm. Both sexes are
horned. The ears are
heavy and drooping.
5. SAANEN
• Origin- Switzerland,
Saanen Valley. Heavy
milk producers. Saanens
are white or light cream in
color.The hair are short and
fine. Ears are erect and
carried forward. The face
is straight &. sensitive to
sunlight and performs best
in cooler conditions.
6. TOGGENBURG
• Toggenburg Valley of
Switzerland and oldest
dairy breed. Medium size,
sturdy and alert in
appearance.Its color is light
fawn to dark chocolate,
white ears with erect and
carried forward Toggenburgs
perform best in cooler
conditions.
• Avg yield- 1 Kg
• Also use for milk prod.
8. bluefaced LEICESTER
• English Long wool type Origin-
England.
• Selected for the blue face &
finer fleeces.
• Avg wt. Rams -115 kg & Ewes
- 80 kg.
• The wool is classed as demi-
luster and fine.
• Avg fleece wt. - 1-2 kg. Staple
length -8 to 15cm.
9. CHEVIOT
• Origin- Cheviot Hills of
England & Scotland.
Hardy sheep, ability to
withstand the cold.
• White-faced sheep, with a
wool-free face and legs,
pricked ears, black muzzle
and black feet. Very alert &
active breed.

10. RAMBOUILLET
• The Rambouillet breed
originated with Spain's

CORRIEDALE
12. DALA
• Found in Norway
• kept primarily for meat
production. It is a polled,
medium wool breed that
is similar in appearance to
the Cheviot. Adult ewes
are usually 85-90 kg

• Found in England.
• Both are horned and polled.
Medium size having good body.
The fleece is white, avg 2.25-4
kg & 6-10 cm lth. Ewes wt -150
to 200 pds Rams wt - 225 to
275 pds. Ewes are good
mothers, good milkers and
multiple births are not
uncommon

14. LINCOLN
• The Lincoln is the world's
largest breed of sheep.
Lincolns are rectangular
in form, are deep bodied,
and great width. They are
straight and strong in the
back and cover thickly.
The staple length is
longest of all the breeds i.e.
20-38 cm.
15. SOUTHDOWN
• It is a medium to small sized
breed with a gray to mouse-
brown face and lower legs
and is polled (hornless). Early
maturing breed with good
lambing ability and average
milk production. Soutdown is
adaptable to varied and wet
climates.
16. SUFFOLK
• The original Suffolks were
the result of crossing
Southdown rams on Norfolk
Horned ewes.
• Large sheep, dark faces
and long small necks. They
were low set in front with
high shoulders They were
blackfaced, light, fleeced
sheep. Both sexes were
horned.
• Superior quality of meat
17. MERINO
• The largest sheep breed
in South Africa . These
masses are considerably
higher under ideal
conditions. Average
wool fibre diameter is
21.7 microns

18. SWISS WHITE ALPINE
• The Swiss White Alpine
is a shortwooled breed
kept primarily for meat.
The breed originated in
Switzerland (1936)
from a cross between the
Swiss White Mountain
and 50-75% Ile-de-
France
19. SOMALI
• The Somali is a hair
sheep which is reared
primarily for meat
production. They are
white with a black head.
Both sexes are polled.
