INTRODUCTION
Present project work aims at reducing emission .it is a
well established fact that smooth combustion minimize
the emission , and exhaust process contributes a lot in
accomplishing smooth combustion process .in present
project work different designs of exhaust manifold for a
multi cylinder spark ignition engine are optimize for
reducing emission ,by evaluating back pressure and
exhaust velocity.
EXHAUST MANIFOLD

MANIFOLD collect the
exhaust gases from
multiple cylinder in to one
pipe.
 EXHAUST MANIFOLD are
generally simple cast iron or
stainless unit which collect
engine exhaust gas from
multiple cylinder and deliver
it to the exhaust pipe.

 The goal of performance exhaust headers is mainly to
decrease flow resistance (backpressure ), and to
increase the volumetric efficiency of an engine
resulting in a gain in power output . The processes
occurring can be explained by the gas law specifically
the ideal law and the combined gas law
During the exhaust store, the piston moves up and the
total volume in the cylinder decreases.
The exhaust valve opens and lets the high pressure gas
from the cylinder to the exhaust manifold.
This will create an 'exhaust purse'. The 'exhaust pulse'
will have High, Medium and Low
pressure heads.
FUTURE SCOPE
1: Flow behavior and velocity of the exhaust gas inside
the pipe can be can analyzed by conductive
computational fluid dynamics which will help to
optimize the design of exhaust manifold.
2: Use of stainless steel increasing the Corrosion and
Thermal Mechanical Fatigue (TMF) resistance of
the exhaust manifold. Hence thermal structural with
stainless steel analysis can be done.
3; Life production of the exhaust manifold design
can be done for the same operating condition.

Thermal and structural analysis can be done
predict the failure of the exhaust manifold
manufactured by different method.

Conclusion
In the design of exhaust manifolds, it is necessary to
consider that any increment in the exhaust
manifold surface will increase the heat loss and
this characteristic has a key effect in the damaging
of engine dynamic performance during load
transients.
High pressure head - There is a large pressure
difference in the cylinder and outside of the
exhaust system.
Medium pressure head - The exhaust gas pressure
in the cylinder and the outside exhaust
system get equalized. The pressure difference and
the exhaust velocity decrease.
Low pressure head - The exhaust gas pressure
initially matches the ambient atmospheric
pressure. The momentum at the high and
medium pressure head reduce the pressure in the
cylinder to a less than atmospheric level.

  • 1. DESIGN &MODAL OF EXHAUST MANIFOLD BY USING CATIA V5 SOFTWARE Under the guidance of Karan Sir Presented by : Devendra Gupta (0121me131028) Kapil Bhat(0121me131038) Naveen Shah(0121me131058) Ravi Gour(0121me131068)
  • 2. INTRODUCTION Present project work aims at reducing emission .it is a well established fact that smooth combustion minimize the emission , and exhaust process contributes a lot in accomplishing smooth combustion process .in present project work different designs of exhaust manifold for a multi cylinder spark ignition engine are optimize for reducing emission ,by evaluating back pressure and exhaust velocity.
  • 3. EXHAUST MANIFOLD  An e EXHAUST MANIFOLD collect the exhaust gases from multiple cylinder in to one pipe.  EXHAUST MANIFOLD are generally simple cast iron or stainless unit which collect engine exhaust gas from multiple cylinder and deliver it to the exhaust pipe.
  • 4. Conti…..  The goal of performance exhaust headers is mainly to decrease flow resistance (backpressure ), and to increase the volumetric efficiency of an engine resulting in a gain in power output . The processes occurring can be explained by the gas law specifically the ideal law and the combined gas law
  • 5. During the exhaust store, the piston moves up and the total volume in the cylinder decreases. The exhaust valve opens and lets the high pressure gas from the cylinder to the exhaust manifold. This will create an 'exhaust purse'. The 'exhaust pulse' will have High, Medium and Low pressure heads.
  • 6. FUTURE SCOPE 1: Flow behavior and velocity of the exhaust gas inside the pipe can be can analyzed by conductive computational fluid dynamics which will help to optimize the design of exhaust manifold. 2: Use of stainless steel increasing the Corrosion and Thermal Mechanical Fatigue (TMF) resistance of the exhaust manifold. Hence thermal structural with stainless steel analysis can be done.
  • 7. 3; Life production of the exhaust manifold design can be done for the same operating condition. exhaust 4. manifold can be either cast or fabricated. Thermal and structural analysis can be done predict the failure of the exhaust manifold manufactured by different method. 4.
  • 8. Conclusion In the design of exhaust manifolds, it is necessary to consider that any increment in the exhaust manifold surface will increase the heat loss and this characteristic has a key effect in the damaging of engine dynamic performance during load transients.
  • 9. High pressure head - There is a large pressure difference in the cylinder and outside of the exhaust system. Medium pressure head - The exhaust gas pressure in the cylinder and the outside exhaust system get equalized. The pressure difference and the exhaust velocity decrease. Low pressure head - The exhaust gas pressure initially matches the ambient atmospheric pressure. The momentum at the high and medium pressure head reduce the pressure in the cylinder to a less than atmospheric level.
