The Ladder of Divine Ascent was written in the seventh century by John Climacus, an abbot of St. Catherine’s Monastery at the foot of Mt. Sinai in the deserts of Egypt, which still houses monks to this very day. Tradition holds that it is built on Mt Horeb where Moses encountered the burning bush and later received the Ten Commandments. St Catherine’s monastery is the oldest continually occupied monastery in the world. The buildings of the monastery are surrounded by fortress walls built by Emperor Justinian. They preserve an ancient letter of protection from Mohammed himself, guaranteeing their safety.
St John Climacus composed the Ladder of Divine Ascent, a guidebook for beginning monks on how to live the monastic life. The Ladder of Divine Ascent consists of thirty rungs, one for each year of the life of Jesus before he started His ministry on Earth. This is not a book to sample, skim or skip through, or to criticize. If you do not want to lead a godly life, or repent and begin your life anew, if you do not want to lead a life of daily repentance, it would be better for you to put the book back and not even crack the binding.
Do not think that just because you are not a monastic that you cannot climb the ladder. Leading a godly life, leading a Christian life, is a monastic calling, whether you decide to become a monk or nun or not. Marriage, work, career, school, child rearing, these are all monastic callings. If you think only of yourself and your selfish pleasures of the moment, you cannot successfully climb any of these ladders.
St John Climacus joined the community at St Catherine’s monastery, located in the mountains of the Sinai desert.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.

5. “Church and Families in Mission Together”
Amanda Finke - Lifebridge Church - Outreach/Childrenʼs Coordinator
Research shows that our spiritual and moral identity is largely set in place by the age of
____.
Quick poll: Which do you think has the most influence over a child?
Parents Peers Church
& media & school
From the age of 0-9, ___________ are the single most influential figures in their
childrenʼs lives.
National surveys reveal that while _____ % of parents believe they are have the primary
responsibility for the moral and spiritual development of their children, more than two
out of three of them hand over that responsibility to their church. Whatʼs worse, less
than ____ % of parents who regularly attend church with their kids actually read the
Bible together, pray together, or serve together as a family.
Deuteronomy 6: faith building is supposed to be a family affair—constant, ongoing,
daily life experiences. The church can and must support parents in their role, but the
trick is to not enable them to pass that task off to the church.
Start by helping families establish and practice healthy habits:
• Have daily Bible Time as a family
• Pray together (beyond meal times!) and talk about how God answered those
prayers
o Pray a blessing over your kids as they walk out the door and ask follow-up
questions later in the day
o Use bedtime as a reflection time and prayer time
• Watch and discuss how you see God working in the life of your family in
everyday life
o Parents have to model!
6. o Celebrate together the “fingerprints” you see throughout the day (giving
credit where credit is due!)
o Encourage kids to watch and share, too
• See everyday life as a mission field!
o If you were a missionary in a foreign country, how would you approach life
differently than you do now?
o As a family, who can we reach out to together with the love of Jesus?
Neighborhoods are a great place to start!
o Seek out opportunities to serve as a family beyond the church walls
Church can help organize these opportunities to serve the
community, but as it becomes a more natural habit for families
theyʼll be watching for these opportunities all the time
This is a great opportunity for parents to speak affirmation into their
kids
• Talk to kids about being missionaries in their schools, neighborhoods, etc
o Use Sunday School context as a place for reinforcing these values and
habits, providing tools, and igniting enthusiasm for joining Jesus on the
adventure of reaching out to our community!
Remember: Getting more kids into your Sunday morning program isnʼt the goal. Bigger,
fancier, or more entertaining does not necessarily mean better (itʼs proven that bigger
isnʼt better if itʼs shallow or consumer-oriented!). Instead, strengthening and equipping
these kids and their families to grow closer to Jesus and live in mission all the time is
our new marker of success!
7. “Five Key Words for Missional Families Worship”
Ken Chitwood - LINC Houston - LBI Director/Missional Trainer
Children/ Mission
Families
Worship
Foundations
1) We must __________ our children and families as ___________ and
_____________. Baptism forms the basis for such a brave belief!
2) We need to view _______________ as a ____________________ experience. Word
and Sacrament forms the basis for such a courageous claim!
3) We cannot see worship as something that our children and families simply
___________________ but something they ___________________ in with Christ
and with one another. Whether it be 10 minutes or three hours, koinonia is what
forms the basis for such a high and holy honor!
4) We can release our children and families with confidence knowing that they are
_________________ in their ________________ with Christ and with one another.
Again, koinonia forms the basis for such radical relationships!
5) Then THEY must look for ________________ for C________________ with and
C________________ for other families in their C___________________. The church
forms the basis for such a major mission!
The FIVE Words:
1) I____________
2) E___________
3) T___________
4) S___________
5) C___________
