Katy Dillard and Meghan Smith are requesting $599.96-$899.94 to purchase 4-6 Flip Video cameras to allow students from K-5 to create video projects that enhance their learning. First grade students have already used borrowed cameras to film themselves presenting animal research. The cameras will be checked out from the library for a variety of video projects across grade levels and subjects. Teachers will be trained on using the cameras and downloading videos. Success will be measured by students regularly using the cameras to create educational videos and through end-of-year usage statistics.

Today is the video age, with many possibilities for integrating video in to language learning. Language learning is a multi-sensory process and video allows developing a range of language skills including listening, speaking, reading and writing, with one resource.
Video is a great resource for listening and speaking, for all language learners. Using video helps the student to learn languages at their own pace, when they have the time.
Video for ALL will be the European project that will bring together all current methodologies, ideas and innovative practices to teach and learn languages by integrating digital video. The project believes that video must be a basic tool for a more multidisciplinary approach to language teaching and learning in today’s world.

Teach Talk: Devices are taking over the classroom - so what next?FrogEducation
The revolution has arrived. Mobile devices are in our classrooms, but after technical issues have been resolved, how do you actually use devices as a teaching resource? Hear how schools are using devices in the classroom to improve learning and increase student engagement.
Apple-tudes are contagious!
Our Apple-tude can determine our success in using iPads in the classroom. You all heard: there’s an app for that. In fact, there are hundreds of thousands of apps on the market designed for teaching and learning. In this workshop we will explore apps available for instruction and for all curriculum areas. You will see examples of how they can be used successfullly in a collaborative, academic setting.
Using iPads to Create Video Content in the Classroom - TCEA 2015Diana Benner
Are you looking to flip the classroom? Would you like to create videos and tutorials for your students? Would you like your students to create video content? In this session, we will explore easy-to-use tools that anyone can use to create and edit videos for the classroom.
This slide presentation explains the work created in virtual reality environments during a course conducted at Empire State College, SUNY. With the advent of open source islands, students were able to create virtual islands to meet their professional interests. The course design is highlighted and the students work itself is put forward in slides and in video links to the islands themselves.

APPLICANT(S) INFORMATION
Name(s): Katy Dillard & Meghan Smith
Grade Level or Subject Area: K-5
Project Title: Flip for Flip Videos
Grant Request: $ 599.96 – 899.94
Approximate Number of Students Reached: 600
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Project summary and objectives:
Flip Video cameras can be used in cross curriculum technology integration in all grade levels. As
an example, First grade classrooms have borrowed Flip Video cameras from district employees
to videotape themselves for a culminating research animal project. Students started their
research process in the Library to learn how to locate resources using a visual search with the
online catalog. Students then read for information using those resources and wrote a video
script with facts they learned. With a buddy, the first graders filmed their script with the Flip
Video cameras to present their learning with other first grade students. In the process,
students learned how to use this current technology and see their downloaded videos in action.
This created a stir of excitement toward the student's own learning. First grade students have
since returned to the Library and independently searched for other information books on the
online catalog using a visual search method. Every step of their research has been taken to a
new level of learning with enthusiasm.
The possibilities are endless when creating video-infused lessons for students in all grade levels.
For example, Fifth graders could use the cameras to add to their current podcasts or be used to
enhance their Wax Museum presentations. Fourth grade could use the cameras and document
existing projects such as Science Fair. Kindergarten students and teachers can create alphabet
videos to help reinforce letter sounds. These video cameras could even be used by students
doing individual research projects to enhance their end product.
The Flip Videos will create opportunities for students and teachers to think outside the box and
use these resources to create projects that they wouldn’t normally be able to do. A book report
will become instantly more exciting when students get to incorporate current technology.
Creative research projects can be enhanced by the use of these cameras. A reader’s theater
presentation will have more meaning because it can be videoed and shared with others.
2. The cameras may be checked out of the Library in any number of ways, allowing a class, grade
level or individual to use them here on our campus.
How will the money be used? Please be specific.
Each Flip Video Mino 60 minute costs $149.99 (through www.theflip.com with free shipping)
6 at $149.99 costs $899.94 or
5 at $149.99 costs $749.95
4 at $149.99 costs $599.96
Project Timeline:
After the video cameras arrive teachers can be quickly trained on how to use these cameras
and download the video projects to a campus computer. Once teachers are trained, the
cameras will be available for check out and used in any classroom across campus. These Flip
Video cameras are so simple to use, that students, even kindergarteners, will be able to use
them with ease.
A teacher training would incorporate information on how to use the cameras, create and edit
videos, as well as specific examples of what kinds of projects they can be used for, such as the
ones mentioned above.
Criteria for Success:
Describe your criteria for success. How will you know if your project is successful? What criteria
will you use to measure success? What do you want to happen as a result of your project?
The project will be considered successful when students are consistently using the Flip Videos
to create exciting and educationally relevant videos that support their classroom learning.
Statistics report use will be run at the end of the school year to document usage of the Flip
Videos. The most important goal and end result will be student hands-on experience with
current technology.
