Essay about Cultural Autobiography
Running Head: MY CULTURAL
My Cultural Autobiography
Nancy Domanski
Sir Frances Bacon said, "If a man be gracious to strangers, it shows that he is a citizen of the
world, and his heart is no island cut off from other islands, but a continent that joins them,"
(Jenkins, 1994). This quote represents all the core values that I cherish and to which I adhere.
Personal culture doesn't have to be linked to a certain country of origin or a specific ethnicity; it can
be as simple as a person's core values. The Southern way of life is a culture all in itself. Growing up
south of the Mason–Dixon Line in the United States has instilled in me many values including
honesty, integrity and a genuine concern for my fellow man. Most...show more content...
I think it is because of how different the food is and how many choices are available. I am proud that
I have continued this tradition with my children for many reasons, but manly because it opens their
minds to new people and cultures. I think this tradition that my mother started was pretty
progressive for her time. She never seemed to be restrained by the typical female roles of most
women of her time. She somehow managed to remain true to her southern traditions while
blending them into a progressive way of thinking. I think I am the same, in that I am trying to
teach my daughter respect for others, especially her elders, while making sure her own thoughts
are valued as well. My brother, Mike, recently reminded me of another very strong southern value
that I too feel passionate about when he said, "Don't ask me for a handout, but I am always willing
to give you a hand up." By this is meant, southerners are always willing to help someone better
themselves or their situation. If they are hungry, feed them and show them how to feed themselves.
If they need a job, teach them the skills needed to find a job–not give them money. To us, throwing
money at a situation is not helping. It is demeaning to the receiver and it will most likely
encourage the problem. More simply put, if you give a man a fish, he will eat for a day. If you teach
a man to fish, he will feed himself forever.

Educational Autobiography Essay
Miguel Huerta Period 1 September 8, 2010 Educational Autobiography A lot of people think
education is just something you get in school, but in reality education comes from different
places and people not just school and teachers. For example, way before I started school I was
already being educated by my parents, they taught me how to eat, behave, use the bathroom, talk,
and a lot of other things that help out in life. I started my educational career in John F. Kennedy
Elementary. I don't really remember my years there because I only went there for Kindergarten
and 1st grade. After that, I went to Sepulveda Elementary. That was a learning experience because I
had to basically be on my own for a couple of days since I was the new...show more content...
Sadly to say, I didn't really have a teacher in middle school that made a big impact in my life but I
matured on my own and got my stuff together and put my work first and girls second. When I
graduated 8th grade I was so excited because I had accomplished something special but I knew
that wasn't the end but in fact a beginning to an even bigger obstacle, high school. I still remember
on the day of graduation my mom went alone because my dad was working and after I told her
that this wasn't the last time she would see me walking down for a diploma because in couple
more years I would be doing it again. That was a big deal because she never graduated high school
neither did my dad because my mom had me and they had to care for me. Then finally I made it
to high school. This was the place where everything I learned up to now would help me. My 9th
grade year was really good I met new friends that I still talk to, got good grades but other than that it
was a normal year. When I went to 10th grade I was in AOF (Academy of Finance) or Global. At
first I was a little optimistic about being in it because I didn't really know a lot of people but I stayed
because I was a little curious about the whole business stuff going on in there. It was a good
decision to stay because I really enjoy all the business related work and I am looking forward to even
having some sort of a business career later on in life. The teacher that really made an impact on me
is the teacher for whom I

Autobiographical Memory Essay
`Memory` is a label for a diverse set of cognitive capacities by which humans and perhaps other
animals retain information and reconstruct past experiences, usually for present purposes.
Autobiographical memory is a complex and multiply determined skill, consisting of neurological,
social, cognitive, and linguistic components. At most beasic level, autobiographical memories refer
to personally experienced past events. Over the past decade the research into autobiographical
memory has led to an account of human memory in which personal goals play a major role in the
formationk, access and construction of specific memories Episodic memory is reconceived as a
memory system that retains highly detailed sensory perceptual knowledge of...show more content...
Autobiographical memory contains the information you have about yourself. There are three
different types of autobiographical memory. They include:personal memory, autobiographical
fact, and generic personal memory. Personal memory consists of an image based representations
of a single unrepeated event. The next type is autobiographical fact. This is identical to personal
memory except for the fact that the memory is not image based. The final type of
autobiographical memory is generic personal memory. This is similar to personal memory but
the event is repeated or a series of similar events occur and are represented in a more abstract
form. The psychologist William Brewer defines recollective episodic memory as a `reliving` of
hte individual phenomenal experience from a specific moment in their past, accompanied by a
belief that the remembered episode was personally experienced by the individual in their past .
Significant psychological complexitiy is required, on such views, for genuine episodic remebering.
The concept of `episodic memory was originally proposed by Tulving (1972) and later elaborated .
We conceive of episodic memory as a system that contains experience–near, highly event specific,
sensory–perceptual details of recent experiences–experiences that lasted for comparatively short
periods of time
