The Role Of The Patriots During The Revolutionary War
The role the Patriots played in the revolutionary war.
The revolutionary era refers to the uprising of the common people against authority in the late
1700s. Great Britain ruled the American colonies for several years since 1607. The American
Revolution came as a need from the American people for independence from Great Britain. This
need for independence was stirred up by the enactment of the Stamp Act in American colonies by
the British. American colonies were congenial to liberty and independence due to religion and other
factors. The American people reacted to the stamp act with public resistance in the colonies.
Therefore, the American revolutionary war was the result of the refusal to pay taxes, imposed on the
colonists by British ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The stamp act was considered taxation without representation of the colonies in the British
Parliament. It was put down as a threat to the freedom of the American people. People began
violently rebelling against the British. These oppositions grew and spread throughout the colonies.
The revolutionary movement divided the colonies into Patriots and Loyalists. Loyalists were
colonists loyal to the British, while the Patriots were in support of the American Revolution. The
Patriots began boycotting goods imported from Great Britain, and substituting them with
homemade goods and cheap inferior goods. The merchants in the colonies were frustrated and
could not sell their goods. Both Britain and the merchants lost profits due to this change. The
importation of British goods was later banned in the American colonies. Merchants were being
forced to sign documents denying the importation of British goods. Merchants whom refused to
sign these documents were sent to the gallows to be tarred and feathered. Additionally, Loyalists
were coerced by the patriots into supporting the American Revolution or they would be lynched in
the gallows. Some loyalists who refused ran away with their families to Great Britain for fear of
being killed. Such actions of people in the colonies frustrated the British and led to the
Revolutionary war.
The American Revolution began in 1775 and continued until 1783. The war started in the north.
The British amounted support from Germany,

The Importance Of Body Image
Body image and appearance is something women caution about when it comes to their bodies.
Numerous women care about how they look like, how others think of them and how they feel
about themselves. Therefore, women feel embarrassed of their appearance in comparison to
others. The concept of being thin is something female desire when looking at themselves in the
mirror. Nevertheless, several feel dissatisfy when looking in the mirror as the image they see
does not portray the image in their mind. Body image is a concerning topic for society as women
feel uncomfortable with their own body. Therefore, unhealthy habits arise as women desire to
have and look like the bodies they see online. Social media affect women as they compare their
own body to others. This results in unhealthy eating habits which, in the long term can develop
into a severe eating disorder. In comparison women exercise excessively to see their body
intention in a quicker pace. Although, past generations have dealt with body image it did not
impact women as much as the current day. Previously, women saw other females on television
and compared themselves to the picture on the screen. Though the women observing did not
know them, it still affected how ladies perceived themselves when looking at their reflection.
Likewise, in the modern period, body image is becoming a large issue as new social media
platforms engage women to follow their friends and as well celebrities. Now, suddenly women are

Computer, Robotics, And Automation Are Driving More And...
Computers, robotics, and automation are driving more and more of production. In turn this is
leading to an enormous impact on the number and type of jobs. An Australian report released in
June 2015 found that 40 per cent of the Australian workforce or around 5 million jobs are at high
risk of being replaced by computers in the next 10 15 years. This backs up the Oxford Martin
School s 2013 study finding 47 per cent of jobs in the United States are at risk of being automated
using artificial intelligence. We need to move urgently from a discussion about protecting the jobs
of today, to creating the jobs of the future.1 3.2 Commercialisation and innovation There are
significant emerging opportunities and challenges for commercialisation and innovation resulting
from technological changes to becoming a more sustainable, broad based economy: Reducing the
tyranny of distance, boosting trade and creating new business models but also promoting
outsourcing of work overseas. Internationalising labour markets are expanding the skilled labour
pool. Developing commercially functional goods and services from new technologies often takes a
lot longer than expected. Leveraging clean technologies to improve sustainability. Fostering
entrepreneurship and addressing constraints for Kiwi companies. Addressing slow uptake of new
technology due to redundancy risks or ease of sticking with the status quo and supporting
workforce mobility. Managing business change in a disruptive and

Human Trafficking Speech
No one shall be held in slavery or servitude , these are the words from the International Human
Bill of Rights that are supposed to protect us. However, that is not exactly the case. All around the
world there is illegal practices that involves a modern form of slavery, this form of slavery can not
be easily abolished, it often involves the practice of human trafficking. Human trafficking is the
illegal practice of transporting a person from one place to another, typically for a form of forced
labor, it goes against the words in the International Human Bill of Rights. There is human
trafficking all around the world, but the rate is higher in impoverished places such as Bangladesh,
Brazil and Haiti. Human trafficking occurs because of unstable political climates, families
economically disadvantaged, and being stuck in debt that is ever growing which one can not pay
with money. Unstable political climates are catalyst for human trafficking. The conditions of the
political system are tied to the government and the security in which the country has. In the article
Sex Trafficking of Women and Girls , it states it is easier to recruit and transport women, bribe
officials and forge passports and other travel documents (Deshpande, Neha A., and Nawal M. Nour).
If the government is not tight or well developed the chances of sneaking immigrants in is much
higher, this means it is easier to use them and force them into labor. Although human trafficking is

Analysis Of Fear And Loathing In America By Hunter S....
Of the two readings from this week, I found the short story, Fear Loathing in America by Hunter
S. Thompson more interesting. The reason why I prefer the short story is because it was more
engaging than the article and the writer had my attention from start to finish. I felt like the
article was just feeding me a bits of information, from one paragraph to next. There was nothing
that could engage the me to the article that would make me want to read more to see how it
ends. It was like a raw video footage that was taken without editing. It was hard for me to even
remember what was read because of all the information that I had to process. It almost felt like I

Is America A Republic Essay
The United State of America from the very beginning is a republic and still remains a republic. It
has never been a democracy even though some people argue that it is a democracy. The founding
fathers gave the country a republic and this was a result of their beliefs that democracy is evil and
dangerous. According to Ron Paul, the republicsystem was instituted to protect individual and
property rights from tyranny. He further claims that the individual rights of minorities are
endangered by majority rule or democracy. ( see Williams .P. Meyers; America: Republic or
Democracy)
Americans are generally made to believe that, they the people hold the utmost power to their
nation. However , it would be safe to a reasonable extent that America is nowhere near being a
democratic nation. Note that the only reason why America is said to be a democracy is simply
because it allows its citizens the right to elect those who will represent them both at the state and
district level.
Nowadays , many people now agree that America has never been or nor had the intention to be
purely a democratic nation. Looking from various views of scholars, some have classified America
as a federal republic or as a constitutional republic. In facts this is true. A true representation of the

Mccandless, Mccandless And Thoreau
Similar to Thoreau, McCandless does not associate being in solitude to being lonesome.
Throughout his journey, McCandless avoids forming close bonds with others because it distracts
him from his final goal of independence and transcendentalism. This lack of intimate
relationships frees McCandless as seen through the journal entry he wrote before walking into
the Alaskan Bush. He writes proudly that for two years he has roamed with no company and no
comforts. He calls it, Ultimate freedom (Krakauer 163). The fact that he considers it more of a
freedom than a loss to live in solidarity shows that like Thoreau, McCandless does not feel lonely
when he is alone. According to his sister, Carine, even when he was younger, he was fine with
being alone. She said that although he had friends, he could easily entertain himself and never
seemed lonely when he was alone. Another instance in which McCandless s dissociation of solitude
and lonelinessshows is in a letter he writes to Ron Franz, a man he met near Salton City. In this
letter, he tells Franz to step outside his comfort zone and live a more adventurous life. Towards the
end of the letter, he states, You are wrong if you think Joy emanates only or principally from human
relationships, (Krakauer 57). This approach is how he is not lonely in solitude; he is capable of
finding joy in things other than human contact.
Thoreau lived as a minimalist to strip away the distractions of life. He wanted to live in the woods,

Glow Sticks Experiment
This experiment is about glow sticks so here are some facts. Let s talk about glowsticks and
everything about them. Light is generated from a chemical reaction which is called
chemiluminescence. Typical glow sticks use a hydrogen peroxide solution, a solution of phenyl
oxalate ester, and a fluorescent dye. Glow sticks are plastic tubes containing glass vials that emit
light when they are cracked/ bent. They have a glow time from 6 12 hours. It also depends on the
size of the glow stick and other stuff like that. Glow sticks are also waterproof if you did not
already know that. Energy created by the chemical reactionis what creates the color. If glow sticks
did not have fluorescent dye there would be no color. Glow sticks might look like they

Without cognitive flexibility we cannot change our minds, shift attention or perspective, flexibly
adjust to changes, see another point of view, resolve problems or be creative. The ability to inhibit
or subdue our impulses involves the skill to stop and think and not act on our first instinct, but,
instead, do what is needed or most appropriate. It allows us to direct our attention and be
disciplined enough to stay on task even in the face of temptation and distraction, instead of being
controlled by habit, feelings and external cues (Zelazo, 2010).
EF skills begin to develop in infancy and continue to improve and change through to adulthood.
Research with students with autism has showed that older students perform better than younger
students on measures of EF (Happe et al., 2006).It is important to note, however, EF difficulties
might not be obvious in early childhood or during the early years of school, but may become more
problematic in upper primary and high school when teachers are less likely to provide scaffolds and

The Run By Wanda Coleman Analysis
To begin, Wanda Coleman shows us when a young boy s mom calls him hard to look at. We hear
this through dialogue between his mother and aunt. While the main character, Buzz, and his
cousin were in California, they were playing a game and overheard some disturbing words by
Buzz s mother. Buzz previously had great respect for his mother and was a happy, fun kid. A
turn of events changed his point of view and made him see his mother in a mean, cold view. We
start to see some prejudice when Buzz s mom said He s my favorite of the boys. He s so light
skinned and look at that good straight hair. But as the conversation is progressing, so is the
hurtfulness of his mother s words. The final breaking point for Buzz is when his mom says I m
so glad this baby didn t turn out black and ugly like Buzz As we could see through the dialogue,
Buzz faced prejudice from no one but his own mother. We can infer from BUzz s later actions of
personality change and crying in the bathroom. We can see how close prejudice can hit home, and

The world s greatest war, World War II began in 1939 and lasted for almost six years. It was
between two military alliances. On the axis powers were Japan, Germany and the Kingdom of
Italy. While the allies were lead by United Kingdom, China, Soviet Union and The United States
of America. America was not directly involved in the war in the early stages. The necessity
increased after the fall of France, the Pearl Harbor incident but mainly when Hitler declared war
on U.S. This led to America s direct involvement in the World War II and helped America to

Although America from the start had a stable economy due to the presence of natural resources
like oil and steel. Yet its rise to super power was when it surpassed Europe as a major power.
Europe was a part of many large destructive wars that left it completely bankrupt and destroyed
most of its infra structure which lead to the fall of Europe. Europe being directly involved in
wars like the World War I and World War II left it far behind in the race of super powers. America
which was although involved in the World War II faced much less damaged compared to the
destruction faced by Europe. Soviet Union also a major power failed in the race of super power
because of the damages it faced from the World War II but mainly it dropped out because of the
fall of the So that left America as the only dominating power in the world which had a stable and
large economy with a huge military advantage and immense power over international matters.
America was one of the main Allies in the World War II yet it did not face much destruction like
other allies it continued to grow and kept its economy stable. And when the other allies failed to
rise up America stood as a strong nation. Even when The United States of America was involved in
World War II it was not dragged down like other allies including Britain and Soviet Union. This
led to the creation of a super power. A country that before the war was just a great power became a
super power.

The longest recorded and arguably one of the most controversial wars in American history is the
Vietnam war. In 1959, the communist government of North Vietnam had devised a guerrilla
campaign in democratic South Vietnam. The government of North Vietnam had the goal of uniting
both countries under a communist reign. The United Statesquickly became an ally with South
Vietnam because they feared the spread of communism. The aftermath of the war resulted in sixty
thousand American deaths and two million Vietnamese deaths. Today many people question the
necessity and rationality of the war. It is still debated today if the American force in Vietnam was

State of Racism and Gender Discrimination
What is discrimination? Discrimination is the prejudicial treatment of a different person or groups
of people based on certain characteristics. In the United States there are seven protected
characteristics or classes that are defined by Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Age
Discrimination Employment Act, and the American Disabilities Act that can not be discriminated

These requirements are important to becoming a fire fighter and many argue that they are more
than necessary. However, this does not mean that the fire department does not want to work
with women. It is just the policy to set the standards high. Another interesting example: A male
employee was fired by his employer because he refused to work at night ( Small Business
Encyclopedia 2002). This company had a policy saying that women did not have to work at
night because the company was located in a high crime area. The male employees had to work
the night shifts for the company, while the women employees did not. The male employee in
question filed a suit under Title VII against his employer claiming sexual discrimination. The
company claimed that several female employees would quit if they were forced to work at
night. The company also claimed the policy was a bona fide occupational qualification (BFOQ).
This case is interesting because BFOQ can be used as a defense to allow certain discrimination.
BFOQ is an exception provided by Title VII for jobs that require a specific religion, sex, national
origin, or age as a reasonable necessity for normal operations of a business. Although BFOQ
applies to the fire department qualifications, the courts deemed that the company who asked only
its male workers to take the night shift was could not use BFOQ as a valid defense ( Small Business

The Characteristics Of The Western And Non-Western...
Western and Non Western Civilizations
The past centuries saw a clear distinction between the Western civilization and the non western
culture. The western civilization composed of Greece, Romans, Byzantine Empire, and the
European while the non western civilizations included East Asia, Egypt, Persian Empire, Sassanid
Empire, African Societies and Kingdoms, Incas, Mayans, Aztecs, and Mongols. For a long period,
the western civilizations prevailed around the world. They influenced, lead and controlled others in
various sectors such as medicine, clothing, business orientations, religion, and government. In this
paper, I will be affirming my conviction that the western civilizations had unique attributes that
made them more powerful than the non western civilizations. I will also show how the western
cultures were influenced by the spread of Christianity, and how the western cultures have
maintained their great influence and power over the other societies even in the modern era.
First, I agree that the Western civilization has a clear lineage that focuses on the majority of the
following attributes: competition/innovation, science, property rights, personal freedoms, and a
free market economy. Ferguson (2014) points out that competition, property oriented government
and science are some of the unique attributes that enabled the West rise to power. As a result of
competition, the western people became more innovative and business oriented, thus, making them

reasons, one of the most common reason is the company s failure to match product offerings to
customer needs, when products do not offer value and lack the features customers want, they fail in
the marketplace, other reasons often given for new product failure include technical or design

Intelligence Vs Growth Mindset
Although many with a fixed mindset believe that intelligence is determined at birth, research has
shown how the brain can be developed to ultimately make someone become smarter, instantly
favoring those with a growth mindset. The way a person with a fixed mindset feels about
something like accepting feedback and constructive criticism absolutely differs from the way one
with a growth mindset would feel. Those with a fixed mindset feel threatened by feedback and
may avoid it altogether if possible due to thinking that they ll never become better ( Effective Effort

Brain researchers have found evidence that the way a person thinks with a growth mindset actually
helps to develop their intelligence and become smarter. Scientists have formed the conclusion after

Saddleback College Jazz Concert Report
The date was December 8th, 2017, I had the pleasure of seeing the Saddleback College Jazz
Combos perform at the McKinney Theater. The theater is quite large holding about 100~200 seats
but seemed to offer a good acoustic balance for the combos that played. Also, one can tell that it
was the holiday season by just entering the theater. It was festive as it was decorated with christmas
trees with christmas lights and the front was filled with light up flower vases. Furthermore, this
concertis a cumulation of different jazzstudents put into small groups and perform in front of an
audience. This concert also showcases their efforts as a group as well as differences in skill level
amongst the combos.
As for the first group, the Alvarado Combo consisted of a bass, piano, trombone, saxophone
(switched from alto to tenor after the first piece), and drums played two songs. While the titles of
each song were not disclosed, one of them is originally composed by the drummer and the
trombone player, John and Andrew respectively. In effort to classify this genre of music, it would
fall under cool jazz as it stayed in a relaxed tempo and lighter tone. This piece is paired well with
the holiday season as it was upbeat. One can imagine oneself opening gifts during this holiday
season while drinking hot chocolate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

they displayed great control and maturity of their sound throughout their solos. The dexterity and
mastery within their instrument of some of the soloist in this group is inspiring because it truly

Administrative discretion and enforcement discretion are the two types of discretion.
Administrative discretion is the officer having the freedom to make fair decisions about the
corse of action to be taken. Enforcement discretion is how officers enforce the laws while
making sure that order is kept within the area. Three variables used when understanding
discretion used by officers include offender, situational, and system varialbes. Offender variables
consist of things such as the sex, ethnic background or even the age of offender. Situational
variables are considered to be how serious the offense is, such as a minor speeding violation
compared to a hit and run. System variables are described as the relationship the offender has to
certain groups of people, such as if they are a relative to another officer, the attitude of the

To What Extent Does Tax Evasion Affect the Society
To what extent does tax evasion affect the society?
Word counts: 1510 words
Introduction:
The importance of the revenue to a country is well known in the world. The global financial system
has more interconnections now than at any other time in history. (Simser.J, 2008, p.131). Tax
evasion is one of most common crimes that damage the order of revenue. This is closely affecting
the market economy and daily lives. Normally, most commentators consider tax evasion profoundly
unethical. There are some ambiguities regarding the meaning of the very word taxation that must
be addressed. It is maintained that the meaning of taxation depends neither on the agents who
collect it, nor on their objectives. (Bagus, Block, Eabrasu, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

However, from some survey data, tax evasion has a negative correlation with GDP, this means that
the scale of tax evasion has disadvantageous influence to the GDP. Investigating its reason, it is
mainly because the income by enterprise and individual tax evasion which does not all through the
legal ways of investment and consumption, there is a big part of the capital flight. In addition, some
investments and spend of consumers are illegal. Therefore, on the whole, no matter from the view
of current or in the future, tax evasion can be viewed as a negative influence on the national
economy. The government should do some positive macro controls to the economic phenomenon,
and resolutely crack down on the behavior of tax evasion.
Body 2:
Tax evasion may affect the income distribution. Tax is an important function of adjusting income
distribution, which makes social income distribution trend to fair, tax evasion make this function,
cannot be fully realized. All kinds of tax evasion are through the way of reducing the financial
income to increase the disposable income of taxpayer. It is proposed that, the tax liability of a
taxpayer is normally only a fraction of his income. This will change the original pattern of income
distribution between the government and taxpayers; reduce the finally disposable share in national
income distribution and increase the

The National Football League And Its Effect On Society
The National Football League was created in September, 1920 and has since influenced America
not only economically but personally as the sport s dangers are slowly unmasked. The National
Football League has been covering up the corruption that has been going on for many decades
and as people begin to dig, many hidden truths are beginning to be uncovered. When people think
about the NFL, they are reminded of the sport that many have loved so much but little does our
society realize the major economic effects that the NFL has on America. Not all of us realize how
much of our tax dollars go towards new football stadiums, the massive parking lots used for games,
and the football players themselves. The National Football Leagueclaims to be nonprofit, yet it is
clear that it is far from that. In addition to the economic effects, it also has a more personal
impact on our lives as more research is showing the health hazards of playing football. The
multiple head traumas that football players get leads to chronic conditions such as CTE, a newer
diagnosis, which causes many players to experience symptoms such as brain deterioration,
suicidal thoughts and ultimately death. Many parents put their kids in a football league starting at
a very young age but are unaware of the dangers they are exposing their children to.There have
been several cases of sudden deaths from young players including Andre Jackson, a football player

Essay about Evaluation of Two Models Of Memory
Evaluation of Two Models Of Memory
In this essay 2 models of memory will be described and compared. They are the Atkinson and
Sniffrin model of memory, the Multistore model, and Crain and Lockhart model, the Levels of
Processing Model. Models of memory are primitive diagrams of human memory to help understand
the flow of information and how it is stored. In order to evaluate those 2 models appropriately it is
important to understand how old they are.
The Multistore Model of Memory by Atkinson and Shiffrin is a very primitive model although it
does try to explain how the memory works quite well. It recognises 3 memory stores the Sensory
Memory Store, the short term memory store and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The presence of the short term memory store and the auditory encoding is supported by the
experiment conducted by Conrad in 1964, where he showed participants sequences of letter at
random in a rapid succession, and relied on errors made to create his conclusion. He found out
that the majority of errors involved a substitution of a letter by another letter of a similar sound.
However, it is very easy to lose the information due to decay or displacement. Displacement
means that new information pushes out the old information as the capacity of the STM is very
limited; researched by Miller in 1956 it is supposed to be 7 items plus or minus 2. For example,
you are processing the words you read on the screen in your STM. However, if I ask, What is
your telephone number? your brain immediately calls that from long term memory and replaces
what was previously there. Decay is similar as the information disapperas as time passes by as the
duration of STM is limited. Chunking can increase the capacity of short term memory. For example,
the letters b d e constitute three units of information while the word bed represents one unit even
though it is composed of the same number of letters. Chunking is a major technique for getting and
keeping information in short term memory; it is also a type of elaboration that will help get
information into long term memory. Subvocal

The Monkey s Paw Suspense Essay
Title In many stories there is a sense of tension and excitement. This is suspense which makes the
reader curious of the outcome of the story or future events. Suspense can be found when the
author uses repeating phrases, uses vivid words to describe dramatic actions, or explains a
character s anxiety and fear. Suspense is created by authors with a technique called, characterizing
anxiety and fear. When authors use this technique they describe what a character is doing to
portray fear. This advances in the reader s curiosity. For instance, in the The Monkey s Paw by
W.W. Jacobs, The White family

For example, in the short story The Tell Tale Heart the narrator tries to prove he is not crazy by
telling a story. He is troubled by the eye of an old man he loves. He just couldn t stand the eye so
he decided to carefully murder the man. When the police came to the house the narrator played it
cool and the officers believed him. But, when he sat down he started to hear a heartbeat that got
louder! Louder! Louder! (Poe 94) A key reason for this quote was to show that the heartbeat was
starting to get too loud to bear. This quote makes the reader curious of what the narrator will do
when he can t bear the sound any longer. Certainly, that allows suspense to be created.
Ultimately, suspense techniques can be found in many works. Repeating phrases, vivid and
dramatic descriptions, and characterizing anxiety and fear are three of the many techniques and
author uses to create suspense. Suspense can take something otherwise very bland and make it

Topic : Binomial Poisson and Normal.
Please mention The Measures of central tendency
The use of these distributions (in which cases these distributions are used) with illustrations.
Binomial approximation to the normal distribution.
What is Skewness and Kurtosis? How it is used and interpreted?
Binomial Distribution :
This kind of distribution is applied to single variable discrete data where results are the number of
successful outcomes in a given scenario.
E.g. :
no. of times the lights are red in 20 sets of traffic lights,
No of students with green eyes in class of 40,
No. of plants with diseased leaves from a sample of 50 plants.

Normal Distribution:
The normal distribution is a very common continuous probability distribution. Normal distribution
is important in statistics and is often used in the natural and social sciences to represent real valued
random variables whose distributions are not known.
This distribution is useful because of the central limit theory. In its most general form, under some
conditions which include finite variance), it states that average of random variables independently
drawn from independent distributions converge in distribution to the normal, that is, become
normally distributed when the number of random variables is sufficiently large.
The normal distribution is sometimes informally called the bell curve. However, many other
distributors are bell shaped( such as the Cauchy, students and logistic distribution).
Measure of Central Tendency :
The Mean, Median and Mode are all valid measures of central tendency, but under different
conditions, some measures of central tendency become more appropriate to use than others.
Mean
The Mean is essentially a model of your data set. It is the value that is the most common.
However, Mean is not often one of the actual values that you have observed in your data set, but it
has one of its important properties is that it maximizes error in the prediction of any one value in
your data set. That is, it is the value that produces the lowest amount of error

Mass Hysteria In Society
Human beings are complex. There is not one person on this earth that is perfect, but that s the
beauty of it. Everyone has moments in their lives where they might just go crazy. Mass hysteria is
a condition affecting a group of persons, characterized by excitement or anxiety, irrational behavior
or beliefs, or inexplicable symptoms of illness (Dictionary.com). There have been multiple instances
where large amounts of people have identical symptoms that alienate them from others in society.
Many factors play into the incline of mass hysteriain students over others: similar social problems,
challenges, or traumatic events.
Everyone deals with stress at some point in their life, and students especially are burdened with
many different forms of it. Earlier this year, in the Okongo territory of Ohangwena, Namibia, the
Oshisho Combined School experienced its first outbreak of unnatural behavior. Basically, a bunch
of girls at the school were acting and doing very abnormal things and no one knew what was going
on. According to the African News Service, the students exhibited strange behaviour such as
speaking in what sounded like a strange language. There were a lot of rumors swirling around that
coerced people into thinking that the bizarre behavior, from mostly girls, was related to that of
witchcraft. They diagnosed the girls with the medical condition called Mass Hysteria (African news
service 2017). This quote, and the details succeeding it, supports the idea that

Here are some of the things that I learned in lessons 07.03 (pH), and 07.04 (Equilibrium). The
formula to calculate the pH of a solution is pH = log [H3O+]. A titration is a laboratory
technique used to calculate the concentration of a chemical. You are performing an acid base
neutralization reaction. For example, let s say we have some HCl that we do not know the
concentration. We can react it with a base, such as NaOH. You start by placing the substance of a
known concentration in a buret, such as a 0.25 M NaOH solution. Then, place the chemical that
you do not know the concentration of in a flask under the buret, such as HCl. We need to add an
indicator to the flask since most reactions are colorless. You will titrate the NaOH until you reach
the endpoint, which means that you will allow the chemical in the buret, called the titrant, to flow
into the flask. At the end point, the solution will have a light pink color. Once you determine how
much of the titrant, NaOH you used, you can use stoichiometry to calculate the concentration of the
unknown, HCl.Chemical equilibrium is when the forward and the reverse reactions are occurring
at the same rate. If K is greater than 1, that means there are products than reactants are equilibrium.
If K is less than 1, there are more reactants than products at equilibrium. As more products are made,

from the Hungarians and the Slavs. Fighting and power struggles continued until the 1400 s, when
the modern world gradually came into existence with intellectual, economic and political changes.

invasion of Yugoslavia, Germany formed an alliance with Austria and fuse for World War I was lit.
On August 3rd, 1914, after Russia refused to demobilize its forces that were protecting Yugoslavia,
Germany declared war on France, saying that they had infringed upon Germany s territory.
Germany proceeded West, taking over Belgium and mobilizing its forces on Frances eastern

During the course of the following year the Treaty of Versailles was drafted and presented to the

Outsourcing, Or The Movement Of Internal Jobs

many benefits, such as cheaper labor costs and greater production rates, also cause a wide range of
problems worldwide. As outsourcing becomes an increasingly popular economic option among
developed nations, to what extent should outsourcing continue to be adopted in the United States?
Job loss, decreased productivity, and decreased profit are all problems associated with outsourcing,

Beyond the domestic economy, outsourcing could mean better political and economic relations
with foreign countries and possibly a brighter future for global diplomacy and policy. Many,
however, still do not understand or believe in the international unifying ability of outsourcing,
and some believe it will cause countries to become unstable or unable to rely on its internal
infrastructure. For example, the well versed international law firm of Morrison and Foerster
asserts that more than 200 [bills to restrict outsourcing] exist in 2004 , it is well known that this
number has been steadily rising since 2004, and the American fear of losing jobs to outsourcing
has grown alongside the increase in restrictive policy, but outsourcing can still create hope
instead of fear (Technology Transactions). It is because of massive amounts of political policy,
against something that could be beneficial to society, that people have begun to fear outsourcing,
but if done properly, (not overused, or over encompassing), outsourcing can bring major benefits
to the government, society, and economy. While the benefits could lead to more peaceful foreign
relations through commerce, the domestic fear of losing jobs and motivation in the workforce
due to outsourcing can be seen as far back as Richard Nixon s Labor Day address in 1971 where
President Nixon states that going to work and energizing the American workforce will achieve a

Arranged marriages have been a practice that has been around for a long time. It has been
predominantly common in third world countries where the income gap is significantly obvious

meet and find people that fit our niche and personality, and hopefully find a significant other to
spend the rest of our lives with. The topic of arranged marriage is not in our dictionary, such an
approach in dictating our dating lives is out of the question. With social media outlets and
numerous social reforms such as gay marriage being recently legalized, it has allowed this
millennial age to become more liberate and free in the way we feel and want to express our
thoughts. Personally, if I was given an arranged marriage proposal, I would probably be angry and

Christopher Wren Contributions
Christopher Wren s advancements during his time were some of the best and well known. He
furthered science and technology as a professor and helped rebuild the lives of many through his
architecture. Even with his being sick all the time he still was able to help and contribute. Wren s
many achievements and discoveries as well as his contribution to the London fire lead him to being
remembered in history and influenced other scientists along the way. Christopher Wrens
architecture was greatly influenced by the architecture before him. Medieval and baroque
architecture especially. Baroque architecture is tall arches long hallways and grand entrances and
rooms. Almost everything is covered in gold and intricate designs. There are often mirrors and
windows lining the walls. At the entrance there are usually roman columns. Art and tapestries cover
everything as well. Every the entire building is symmetrical making it look visually pleasing. The
medieval architecture had tall arches and spires throughout the building. The spires were tall
symbolizing to look to God not the world. These attributes among others influenced Wren s
designs. In fact wren said, The secret of architectural excellence is to translate the proportions of a
dachshund into bricks, mortar and marble. (Geraghty 2).
Christopher Wren was born October 20,1632, in East Knoyle, United Kingdom. Wren s mother
was Mary Cox, and his father was Christopher Wren senior. Christopher Wren Jr. was married to

Practical Considerations
Practical Considerations Examining the practicality of the group parameters is paramount to
delivering the most effective treatment possible. 1.The counseling group is a closed group, as
the formation of bonds, trust, and process of the shared experience is more vulnerable to being
disrupted if the group was open. 2.In addition to the above, each week builds upon the
information shared in the previous week in relation to disclosures and sharing of experiences as
well as building upon problem solving strategies; thus, additional group members later on would
arguably detract from the established levels of trust already developed. 3.The group will meet 2x

The traffic jam is now a huge problem for travelers as well as local people in MГЎlaga. According
to a local newspaper, the traffic frequently heavies at lunchtime as tourists go to shoreline to eat as
local people go home for lunch. Golf courses irrigation brought major impacts on the environment
especially the amount of water used. In MГЎlaga 2005, the total water consumption was around
11.8 million m3 and the amount could be much higher during the high season. MГЎlaga city
sources its water from the Guadalhorce. Half portion of the water is utilized for irrigating golf

refurbishing golf courses. Many chemical products and biocides were adopted to maintain the
greenness, control insects... which corrupt both air and water. Additional speaking, more local
people are forced to speak English because of the enormous number of foreign tourists coming
which could diminish the culture of the city... As golf courses are built in luxury and exclusive

Does Rousseau’s Du Contrat Social signal the advent of...
Does Rousseau s _Du Contrat Social_ signal the advent of modern democracy? Or does it
represent a dangerous recipe for the suppression of individual human freedom? Rousseau s
social contract is often likened to modern democracy, however, most political ideologies can be
likened to one another in some form and one doesn t have to dig deep before they find some
major differences between the two ideologies. In his writing, Rousseau tries to develop an
ideology that maintains humans individual freedom, but in a social way. However his ideology is
full of flaws and is missing a key ingredient for implementation into human life. In order to
understand these flaws one must explore the features of his ideology. Firstly in order to understand

He calls the relationship between a master and a slave aggregation whereas he calls the relation
between a people and their leader an association. Rousseau emphasises the importance of the
difference between these relationships in saying that a master and his slave have no bond of
union, whereas a people is already a whole before they come to the unanimous decision of
electing their leader to execute their will. (Keens Soper, 1988, p.176). Rousseau further justifies
the freedom of the individual by stating that, each man having given himself to the whole has
given himself to no one. (Keens Soper, 1988, p.178). While one can see positives to this unity it is
impossible to ignore that men remain private individuals with private interests. Rousseau s solution
to this problem is to fashion the members of the group in such a way that they develop and
incorruptible identification with their state. This would require a massive level of prevention in the
form of not allowing anything to come between the citizen and the state. Rousseau realises that the
general will is constantly threatened by individual will, which has the power to dissolve the unity
of the group. Part of protecting the unity is a strict and unwavering dedication to equality within
the group. (Keens Soper, 1988, p.183). The extreme necessity for unity can be seen in Rousseau s
view that any member who violates the social contract would need to be

Specifically in this reaction the limiting reagent is Calcium Chloride, CaCl2 and the factor that
will be changed periodically in this reaction is the amount in grams of the Sodium Carbonate and
Calcium Chloride and if the experiment is right, as the mass of the limiting reagent Calcium
Chloride increases the mass of the reactant Calcium Carbonate will also increase, hence the
percent yield of the product will also increase. Sodium Carbonate and Calcium Chloride are two
aqueous soluble salts and between the reactions of these two soluble salts forms a precipitation of a
single product, while the other product stays in the state of a solution (aq). The meaning of this
precipitation reaction is simple. Since interchanging of the cations and anions of two aqueous
solutions is happening, one if bound to produce and insoluble salt, which is specifically insoluble in
water, hence, this results in a precipitate. Stoichiometry is the process that gives the information
about the amount of various elements involved in a reaction (EM). When the balanced chemical

chronic absenteeism percentage was 9.6% for 2015 16. Chronic absenteeism, defined in
Connecticut Public Act No. 15 225 , is when a student misses ten percent or greater of the total
number of days enrolled in the school year for any reason. Additionally, in the 2015 16 reporting,
students identified as requiring special education services had a chronic absenteeism sate of 18.1%
compared to 8.3% of non special education students. Grade level breakdown indicates that the
percentage of students chronically absent increased from 8.4% in 7th grade to 12.9% in 9th grade

Busting Unions For Fighting Reform Policies
Busting Unions for Fighting Reform Policies In the early chapters of Special Interest Terry Moe
spends much of his energy in attacking the power of the teacher unions. He claims that teachers
unions are the heart of the problem when it comes to organization and reform (Moe, 2011, p. 20).
While Moe claims the NEA (National EducationAssociation) and the AFT (American Federation of
Teachers) have historically lobbied against many reform programs, including voucher programs,
charter schools, and merit payprograms, there is also evidence where teachers unions have
supported new reforms. They have introduced new charter schools and have based salaries on
merit pay programs. Former NEA president Bob Chase delivered a speech in 1997 claiming that
the NEA was on the forefront of education reform. He stated that the NEA invested 70 million
dollars on reform initiatives and sponsored six charter schools across the country (Chase, 1997, p.
372). Educational policy makers should be in particular interest to these examples especially if they
believe in the effectiveness of reform programs. If policy makers understand the thinking behind
why the unions support or oppose reforms, better policies can be put in place. In addition, policy
makers in partnership with the teachers unions can work hand in hand to successfully coordinate
reforms in American education. Moe argues that the United States has struggled to meet the reform
challenge over the past quarter century specifically in the

Pure Products Of America Essay
Anna Baldwin Dr. Shaheen Literary Analysis The pure products of America What is the
American Dream? In the poem, To Elsie, William Carlos Williams asks us the many questions
lurking beneath the pavement of our perception behind the American dream: what are the pure
products of America and what is the reality of this imagined concept? Through the use of texture
and form, Williams perfectly depicts with cynical aptitude the recycled degradation of society.
In To Elsie, a depraved America is personified through the history and conception of a woman
named Elsie. The poem begins in the muck and destitution of the lower working class. When a
woman is raped, a child named Elsie is born out of wedlock and that child grows to become a
housemaid of a rich doctor s family. Almost in cycle, she becomes the subject of prying eyes and
perverse fantasies of rich men. Elsie is thus a symbol of America used and corrupted by the
debauched society we live in. From the very beginning, the poem s diction is designed as a
method of psychology to detach the mind of the reader from the picture portrayed. In the
introductory line, The pure products of America... go crazy (l.1, l.2), the mind of the reader is
manipulated by use of the words pure products. There is an emphasis of stressed R s consonants,
especially in the words products and crazy , giving essentially a very raw and industrial grinding
roll of the tongue. When one thinks of the word product, they are

Cubism Symbolism
The transition from Cubism to De Stijl can be seen through the works of Pablo Picasso s Three
Musicians, Theo van Doesburg s Card Players, and Piet Mondrian s Tableau No. II with Red,
Blue, Black, Yellow, and Gray. One can see the transition from geometric shapes creating people
to just using geometric shapes to create a grid. Among the generic shapes that change each has
much different symbolism and history. In Picasso s Three Musicians the subject matter, from
left to right, consists of a pierrot, a harlequin, a monk, and a dog hidden behind the harlequin s
legs. There are two versions of this piece, both created in 1921. Even though it was nearing the
end of Cubism, Picasso s highlights the aspects of Synthetic Cubism. Even at the end of the
movement, the shapes can portray it as paper cut outs, from which the style began. The
background and foreground are all dark, the only brightness in the piece are the three subjects.
The pierrot and harlequin are part of the old Italian theater called Commedia dell arte. The pierrot
and the monk represent Picasso s close friends. Guillaume Apollinaire, representing the pierrot, was
a poet who was one of the major players in the surrealist movement, who had recently died. Max
Jacob, the monk, another poet was the one who had introduced Picasso to Apollinaire, and had
recently started to live in a monestary. The Harlequin represents Picasso himself, as he used this
subject in multiple paintings of him to represent himself. The

Theme Of Human Nature In The Crucible
The Crucible by Arthur Miller, is a play which examines the terrible events of the Salem Witch
Trials in Massachusetts as an allegory to the Red Scare in the early 1900 s. In his book, Arthur
Miller draws parallels between both events in an attempt to show the pitfalls of human nature. In
All the Pretty Horses, renowned author, Cormac McCarthy, writes, What is constant is history
is greed and foolishness and a love of blood and this is a thing that even God who knows all that
can be known seems powerless to change (239). McCarthy accurately depicts the dark side of
human nature, specifically related to the events in the Salem Witch Trials. The Crucible
exemplifies the themes of greed, foolishness, and a lust for blood. Arthur Miller s The Crucible
demonstrates greed and selfishness through characters actions and words. Abigail, worried of
self preservation, threatens let either of you breathe a word...,and I will come to you in the
black of some terrible night and I will bring a pointy reckoning that will shudder you (575) to
Betty, Mary Warren, and Mercy Lewis in order to shut them up. Abigail is so focused on
protecting herself that she is willing to kill her family and friends rather than face danger.
Similarly, Parris also demonstrates greed as he is preoccupied with protecting himself from his
enemies. When questioning Abigail on Betty s mysterious illness, Parris begs Abigail, If you
trafficked with spirits in the forest I must know it now, for surely my

subsidiary performance. These include: * Whole versus part a multinational is a single entity that
faces a global environment. Integration and control imperative often place the multinational in the
positions where it decides that the good of the whole is more important than the subsidiary s short
term profitability. * Volatility of the global environment because subsidiaries operate under such

How Is Bob Marley Successful
Bob Marley is somebody that considered life a reality to be experienced. This is because he

an important political figure (Timothy Thomas). This shows that he considered life a reality to be
experienced because he succeeded in becoming a political figure. He didn t consider his life to be
a problem to be solved and fulfilled a lot during his lifetime. He started the Rastafari movement
which made him viewed as a large political figure in jamaican and reggaeculture . This shows the

  • 2. The Role Of The Patriots During The Revolutionary War The role the Patriots played in the revolutionary war. The revolutionary era refers to the uprising of the common people against authority in the late 1700s. Great Britain ruled the American colonies for several years since 1607. The American Revolution came as a need from the American people for independence from Great Britain. This need for independence was stirred up by the enactment of the Stamp Act in American colonies by the British. American colonies were congenial to liberty and independence due to religion and other factors. The American people reacted to the stamp act with public resistance in the colonies. Therefore, the American revolutionary war was the result of the refusal to pay taxes, imposed on the colonists by British ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The stamp act was considered taxation without representation of the colonies in the British Parliament. It was put down as a threat to the freedom of the American people. People began violently rebelling against the British. These oppositions grew and spread throughout the colonies. The revolutionary movement divided the colonies into Patriots and Loyalists. Loyalists were colonists loyal to the British, while the Patriots were in support of the American Revolution. The Patriots began boycotting goods imported from Great Britain, and substituting them with homemade goods and cheap inferior goods. The merchants in the colonies were frustrated and could not sell their goods. Both Britain and the merchants lost profits due to this change. The importation of British goods was later banned in the American colonies. Merchants were being forced to sign documents denying the importation of British goods. Merchants whom refused to sign these documents were sent to the gallows to be tarred and feathered. Additionally, Loyalists were coerced by the patriots into supporting the American Revolution or they would be lynched in the gallows. Some loyalists who refused ran away with their families to Great Britain for fear of being killed. Such actions of people in the colonies frustrated the British and led to the Revolutionary war. The American Revolution began in 1775 and continued until 1783. The war started in the north. The British amounted support from Germany, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Computer, Robotics, And Automation Are Driving More And... Computers, robotics, and automation are driving more and more of production. In turn this is leading to an enormous impact on the number and type of jobs. An Australian report released in June 2015 found that 40 per cent of the Australian workforce or around 5 million jobs are at high risk of being replaced by computers in the next 10 15 years. This backs up the Oxford Martin School s 2013 study finding 47 per cent of jobs in the United States are at risk of being automated using artificial intelligence. We need to move urgently from a discussion about protecting the jobs of today, to creating the jobs of the future.1 3.2 Commercialisation and innovation There are significant emerging opportunities and challenges for commercialisation and innovation resulting from technological changes to becoming a more sustainable, broad based economy: Reducing the tyranny of distance, boosting trade and creating new business models but also promoting outsourcing of work overseas. However, that is not exactly the case. All around the world there is illegal practices that involves a modern form of slavery, this form of slavery can not be easily abolished, it often involves the practice of human trafficking. Human trafficking is the illegal practice of transporting a person from one place to another, typically for a form of forced labor, it goes against the words in the International Human Bill of Rights. There is human trafficking all around the world, but the rate is higher in impoverished places such as Bangladesh, Brazil and Haiti. Human trafficking occurs because of unstable political climates, families economically disadvantaged, and being stuck in debt that is ever growing which one can not pay with money. Unstable political climates are catalyst for human trafficking. The conditions of the political system are tied to the government and the security in which the country has. In the article Sex Trafficking of Women and Girls , it states it is easier to recruit and transport women, bribe officials and forge passports and other travel documents (Deshpande, Neha A., and Nawal M. The reason why I prefer the short story is because it was more engaging than the article and the writer had my attention from start to finish. I felt like the article was just feeding me a bits of information, from one paragraph to next. There was nothing that could engage the me to the article that would make me want to read more to see how it ends. It was like a raw video footage that was taken without editing. It was hard for me to even remember what was read because of all the information that I had to process. • 8. Is America A Republic Essay The United State of America from the very beginning is a republic and still remains a republic. It has never been a democracy even though some people argue that it is a democracy. The founding fathers gave the country a republic and this was a result of their beliefs that democracy is evil and dangerous. According to Ron Paul, the republicsystem was instituted to protect individual and property rights from tyranny. He further claims that the individual rights of minorities are endangered by majority rule or democracy. ( see Williams .P. Meyers; America: Republic or Democracy) Americans are generally made to believe that, they the people hold the utmost power to their nation. However , it would be safe to a reasonable extent that America is nowhere near being a democratic nation. Note that the only reason why America is said to be a democracy is simply because it allows its citizens the right to elect those who will represent them both at the state and district level. Nowadays , many people now agree that America has never been or nor had the intention to be purely a democratic nation. Looking from various views of scholars, some have classified America as a federal republic or as a constitutional republic. In facts this is true. A true representation of the framers of the ... • 10. Mccandless, Mccandless And Thoreau Similar to Thoreau, McCandless does not associate being in solitude to being lonesome. Throughout his journey, McCandless avoids forming close bonds with others because it distracts him from his final goal of independence and transcendentalism. This lack of intimate relationships frees McCandless as seen through the journal entry he wrote before walking into the Alaskan Bush. He writes proudly that for two years he has roamed with no company and no comforts. He calls it, Ultimate freedom (Krakauer 163). The fact that he considers it more of a freedom than a loss to live in solidarity shows that like Thoreau, McCandless does not feel lonely when he is alone. According to his sister, Carine, even when he was younger, he was fine with being alone. She said that although he had friends, he could easily entertain himself and never seemed lonely when he was alone. • 13. The Run By Wanda Coleman Analysis To begin, Wanda Coleman shows us when a young boy s mom calls him hard to look at. We hear this through dialogue between his mother and aunt. While the main character, Buzz, and his cousin were in California, they were playing a game and overheard some disturbing words by Buzz s mother. Buzz previously had great respect for his mother and was a happy, fun kid. A turn of events changed his point of view and made him see his mother in a mean, cold view. We start to see some prejudice when Buzz s mom said He s my favorite of the boys. He s so light skinned and look at that good straight hair. But as the conversation is progressing, so is the hurtfulness of his mother s words. The final breaking point for Buzz is when his mom says I m so glad this baby didn t turn out black and ugly like Buzz As we could see through the dialogue, Buzz faced prejudice from no one but his own mother. We can infer from BUzz s later actions of personality change and crying in the bathroom. We can see how close prejudice can hit home, and even be at home.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This company had a policy saying that women did not have to work at night because the company was located in a high crime area. I will also show how the western cultures were influenced by the spread of Christianity, and how the western cultures have maintained their great influence and power over the other societies even in the modern era. First, I agree that the Western civilization has a clear lineage that focuses on the majority of the following attributes: competition/innovation, science, property rights, personal freedoms, and a free market economy. The presence of the short term memory store and the auditory encoding is supported by the experiment conducted by Conrad in 1964, where he showed participants sequences of letter at random in a rapid succession, and relied on errors made to create his conclusion. He found out that the majority of errors involved a substitution of a letter by another letter of a similar sound. However, it is very easy to lose the information due to decay or displacement. Displacement means that new information pushes out the old information as the capacity of the STM is very limited; researched by Miller in 1956 it is supposed to be 7 items plus or minus 2. For example, you are processing the words you read on the screen in your STM. However, if I ask, What is your telephone number? your brain immediately calls that from long term memory and replaces what was previously there. Decay is similar as the information disapperas as time passes by as the duration of STM is limited. Chunking can increase the capacity of short term memory. For example, the letters b d e constitute three units of information while the word bed represents one unit even though it is composed of the same number of letters. Chunking is a major technique for getting and keeping information in short term memory; it is also a type of elaboration that will help get information into long term memory. Subvocal ... The normal distribution is sometimes informally called the bell curve. However, many other distributors are bell shaped( such as the Cauchy, students and logistic distribution). Mass hysteria is a condition affecting a group of persons, characterized by excitement or anxiety, irrational behavior or beliefs, or inexplicable symptoms of illness (Dictionary.com). There have been multiple instances where large amounts of people have identical symptoms that alienate them from others in society. Many factors play into the incline of mass hysteriain students over others: similar social problems, challenges, or traumatic events. Basically, a bunch of girls at the school were acting and doing very abnormal things and no one knew what was going on. According to the African News Service, the students exhibited strange behaviour such as speaking in what sounded like a strange language. There were a lot of rumors swirling around that coerced people into thinking that the bizarre behavior, from mostly girls, was related to that of witchcraft. Here are some of the things that I learned in lessons 07.03 (pH), and 07.04 (Equilibrium). The formula to calculate the pH of a solution is pH = log [H3O+]. A titration is a laboratory technique used to calculate the concentration of a chemical. You are performing an acid base neutralization reaction. For example, let s say we have some HCl that we do not know the concentration. We can react it with a base, such as NaOH. You start by placing the substance of a known concentration in a buret, such as a 0.25 M NaOH solution. Then, place the chemical that you do not know the concentration of in a flask under the buret, such as HCl. We need to add an indicator to the flask since most reactions are colorless. You will titrate the NaOH until you reach the endpoint, which means that you will allow the chemical in the buret, called the titrant, to flow into the flask. At the end point, the solution will have a light pink color. Once you determine how much of the titrant, NaOH you used, you can use stoichiometry to calculate the concentration of the unknown, HCl.Chemical equilibrium is when the forward and the reverse reactions are occurring at the same rate. If K is greater than 1, that means there are products than reactants are equilibrium. If K is less than 1, there are more reactants than products at equilibrium. As more products are made, the rate of the forward reaction will decrease. The rate of the ... (Keens Soper, 1988, p.176). Rousseau further justifies the freedom of the individual by stating that, each man having given himself to the whole has given himself to no one. (Keens Soper, 1988, p.178). While one can see positives to this unity it is impossible to ignore that men remain private individuals with private interests. Rousseau s solution to this problem is to fashion the members of the group in such a way that they develop and incorruptible identification with their state. This would require a massive level of prevention in the form of not allowing anything to come between the citizen and the state. Rousseau realises that the general will is constantly threatened by individual will, which has the power to dissolve the unity of the group. Busting Unions For Fighting Reform Policies Busting Unions for Fighting Reform Policies In the early chapters of Special Interest Terry Moe spends much of his energy in attacking the power of the teacher unions. He claims that teachers unions are the heart of the problem when it comes to organization and reform (Moe, 2011, p. 20). While Moe claims the NEA (National EducationAssociation) and the AFT (American Federation of Teachers) have historically lobbied against many reform programs, including voucher programs, charter schools, and merit payprograms, there is also evidence where teachers unions have supported new reforms. They have introduced new charter schools and have based salaries on merit pay programs. Former NEA president Bob Chase delivered a speech in 1997 claiming that the NEA was on the forefront of education reform. He stated that the NEA invested 70 million dollars on reform initiatives and sponsored six charter schools across the country (Chase, 1997, p. 372). Educational policy makers should be in particular interest to these examples especially if they believe in the effectiveness of reform programs. If policy makers understand the thinking behind why the unions support or oppose reforms, better policies can be put in place. In To Elsie, a depraved America is personified through the history and conception of a woman named Elsie. The poem begins in the muck and destitution of the lower working class. When a woman is raped, a child named Elsie is born out of wedlock and that child grows to become a housemaid of a rich doctor s family. Almost in cycle, she becomes the subject of prying eyes and perverse fantasies of rich men. Elsie is thus a symbol of America used and corrupted by the debauched society we live in. From the very beginning, the poem s diction is designed as a method of psychology to detach the mind of the reader from the picture portrayed. In the introductory line, The pure products of America... go crazy (l.1, l.2), the mind of the reader is manipulated by use of the words pure products. There is an emphasis of stressed R s consonants, especially in the words products and crazy , giving essentially a very raw and industrial grinding roll of the tongue. When one thinks of the word product, they are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. Cubism Symbolism The transition from Cubism to De Stijl can be seen through the works of Pablo Picasso s Three Musicians, Theo van Doesburg s Card Players, and Piet Mondrian s Tableau No. II with Red, Blue, Black, Yellow, and Gray. One can see the transition from geometric shapes creating people to just using geometric shapes to create a grid. Among the generic shapes that change each has much different symbolism and history. In Picasso s Three Musicians the subject matter, from left to right, consists of a pierrot, a harlequin, a monk, and a dog hidden behind the harlequin s legs. There are two versions of this piece, both created in 1921. Even though it was nearing the end of Cubism, Picasso s highlights the aspects of Synthetic Cubism. Even at the end of the movement, the shapes can portray it as paper cut outs, from which the style began. The background and foreground are all dark, the only brightness in the piece are the three subjects. The pierrot and harlequin are part of the old Italian theater called Commedia dell arte. The pierrot and the monk represent Picasso s close friends. Guillaume Apollinaire, representing the pierrot, was a poet who was one of the major players in the surrealist movement, who had recently died. Max Jacob, the monk, another poet was the one who had introduced Picasso to Apollinaire, and had recently started to live in a monestary. The Harlequin represents Picasso himself, as he used this subject in multiple paintings of him to represent himself. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Theme Of Human Nature In The Crucible The Crucible by Arthur Miller, is a play which examines the terrible events of the Salem Witch Trials in Massachusetts as an allegory to the Red Scare in the early 1900 s. McCarthy accurately depicts the dark side of human nature, specifically related to the events in the Salem Witch Trials. The Crucible exemplifies the themes of greed, foolishness, and a lust for blood. Arthur Miller s The Crucible demonstrates greed and selfishness through characters actions and words. Abigail, worried of self preservation, threatens let either of you breathe a word...,and I will come to you in the black of some terrible night and I will bring a pointy reckoning that will shudder you (575) to Betty, Mary Warren, and Mercy Lewis in order to shut them up. Abigail is so focused on protecting herself that she is willing to kill her family and friends rather than face danger. Similarly, Parris also demonstrates greed as he is preoccupied with protecting himself from his enemies.
