My love affair with brands started in 1980 when I got sponsored by Shaun Tomson surfboards thanks to the late Ernie Tomson, to whom I'm eternally grateful. By the time I retired as a Springbok and professional surfer in 1997, I had the fortune of being part of global brands like Gotcha Sportswear, Quiksilver, Body Glove and others. Traveling to exotic destinations and head offices of these global brands during the apartheid era was an education to say the least, with memories and experiences engraved in my mind forever!
