Evotherm

Evotherm extended the paving season and allowed for longer hauls and improved compaction. Projects in Chicago and Nova Scotia were able to pave in cold temperatures due to Evotherm. A project in Modoc National Forest had favorable results after a 2-hour haul. Evotherm also allowed for longer pavement life as seen on a project on I-70 in Colorado, and lower environmental impact as shown by projects in Napa and San Francisco where emissions were reduced.

Editor's Notes

  1. Proof of concept to show that the addition of Evotherm would allow the use of a stiff, high recycled content mix for winer condition paving without sacrificing performance or workability.
  2. The mix was 3/4" with a modified PG 62-28 binder and had a 15% RAP content. Initial compaction temperatures were around 270 F. Eagle Peak was amazed that there were no chunks found after the belly dump. Eagel Peak President, Tony Cruse, claimed that the mix came out of the chute "like sand".  Target densities were surpassed throughout the run.  They were even able to compact mix that was placed in a water-filled rut without any cracking! Note: This was also Eagle Peak Paving’s first Evotherm job!
