Evolution Of Tools By: Ethan
Introduction This is how early man used tools and evolved tools. It started first as a sharpened stick to a bow and arrow.
Australopithecus afarensis Australopithecus afarensis did not use tools at all. Australopithecus afarensis used the tools they found. They had small brains and probably weren’t smart enough to make their own tools. They scavenged for food, and ate meat raw. They probably used sticks to get the ants and termites on the stick. Then they would eat it like a kabob.
Homo habilis Homo habilis stands for “handy man”. Homo habilis were the first to create tools. They were able to hunt, but with simple tools. Homo habilis also gathered food. They were taller and smarter than the Australopithecus afarensis. They could use the fire they found from a lightning storm off a branch, but could not keep the fire going for a long period of time.
Homo erectus The Homo erectus stands for “Stone Age”. They learned and could use fire. They can also make fire whenever they needed it. They were able to make stone knives and axes, but none of it was made of metal. When they finished hunting they would use the fire to cook the raw meat. Since they could control fire they could migrate to other places around the world. The only way the migrated was by foot, not by vehicle.
Neanderthals Homo sapiens Neanderthals were very advanced. They were taller had bigger craniums than us humans. They were not as smart as us, but they were a lot stronger than us They used the fire to smoke their food so they could eat it during the Winter, because they lived the an ice age. They lived in caves as homes to keep warm.
Cro-Magnon Homo sapiens sapiens Cro-Magnons were extremely smart. They could hunts herds, and bigger animals like Woolly mammoths. They were also able to preserve their food with salt and smoke, they did this because there was a lack of food during the winter. They stored their smoked food for the Winter. Cro-Magnons created rafts and canoes so they could hunt for salmon. They made fishing spears and rods to hunt wild salmon. They wore clothing and jewellery. This race created the Bow and Arrow. Cro-Magnons used needles and fishing rods off antlers. They made music.
Conclusion This is how much tools evolved, from stick to bow and arrow. This also effected how they ate. Raw food to cooked food. They could also smoke their food for the winter.
