Evaluation
Once I finished editing the whole documentary with my group, I had to gather
feedback from the audience when they finished watching our documentary, ‘Say
something’, which I created with my group, Eclipse Studios. I asked a group of six
people which was the focus group. A focus group is a group of diverse people who
are selected and given permit to comment and discuss on the subject of the
research created by the researcher. I ensured that equal opportunities as the focus
group selected were a diverse group of people with a mixture of races, gender and
ages. The feedback gathered would allow me to then asses if the finished
documentary meets the needs of the audience and if my group and I would need to
make some changes which the audience suggested from the feedbacks in the
questionnaires. The feedback would help us to improve our finished product and the
massage from the social action was reaching the target audience from following their
advice, therefore the documentary will be at its best standard. In the industry, the
purpose of the focus group would ensures that the documentary has a clear
message to the audience and the finance people will make sure that the money they
invest ensures advertising and explains a clear message. Referring to the theory,
encoding and decoding by Stuart Hall (1973), which suggests that our documentary
contains texts and images, that as producers we decided to present in the video, is
then decoded by the audience watching the video. The audience will view the
message in the way we have presented the information.
I designed a questionnaire with a variety of questions, framing the questions to cover
specific areas of the audience covering the strengths and weakens in order to refine
the product which the audience would give their feedback. Resulting from the
questionnaires, I gained a lot of detailed information form the audience's feedback
from watching my documentary. In the questionnaire, I included questions such as,
age, gender, occupation, town of residence, have they been bullied before and if the
documentary had an impact to them or not. Once I had created the questionnaire I
gave them to the focus group which they filled in with their response and then I
asked them questions about the documentary. Using questionnaires it would link to
target audience segments because the form of a questionnaire would be more
efficient to use when gather detailed information from people.
The first question asked the audience follows demographic audience segmentation
which includes, age; what their age was, five people from the audience were ages
from 16 - 8 but one person from the group was above 31 years old so he was an
older audience. It was effective that the audience were mainly young as we had

targeted the documentary for youth therefore most young people will be informed
about the topic as we found out that bullying occurs from young ages between
students. However, I thought it would functional to ask the older generation because
they may have been bullied in the past and they may also be parents to children so
they could watch the documentary to be more aware and educated about the topic
which links back to the aim of the brief to create a community social action project.
The next question asked was their gender which links to demographic as well. In this
situation this question was needed because we wanted to find out which gender was
mostly bullied. The gender that was bullied the most shown from the questionnaires
were females. We saw a similar relation to statistics online because it suggested that
females would be more likely to be bullied as they are seen to be vulnerable and
girls are more associated as ‘gossipers’. But, it was still important to make sure to
ask both genders because anyone can be bullied, even males, because even though
they are portrayed as to be less likely to be bullied, some males could still be bullied.
However, the males from the focus group stated that they had not been bullied and
also males may not want to admit that they may have been bullied but still seek
advice.
The information gathered from the questionnaires shows that the majority are in full
time education and only one individual was employed. This links to the next question
which is the town of residence which is a psychographic explanation. Everyone in
the group lived in different areas in the Borough of Redbridge, in Barkingside,
Hainault, Newbury Park, Ilford and other. The other option suggested that people
come to Redbridge for personal reason or study or work within the area. King
Solomon high school was the local school in the borough which most of young
people in the group stated they attend to. This help me understand that even though
some people did not live in Redbridge, they still lived near enough to the area and all
the students in the focus group studied at the school which even their parents
noticed the school which they could get more information from the video as we had
interviewed teachers and now they can talk to teachers about bullying if their child
was affected by it.
Referring to the documentary, I wanted to find out whether people had been victims
of bullying, suggesting that the video would be personal and emotional for them. Out
of six people in the focus group, only two people stated that they had been bullied
before. I also asked if the video had an impact on their lives or not, most of the
audience said that the video did impact them because the video was informative by
giving them detailed information about the topic which they become more educated

and the video contains interviews with different people which gave them an inside
view of how they dealt with bullying which the audience could also follow because
they could be in similar situation and from watching the video they now now what to
do because they video has shown and given them suggestions and examples.
The last question in the questionnaire asked what could have been improved about
the video. Nearly everyone in the group stated that the video already had acceptable
and informative scenes which emphasised that not a lot of changes were needed.
But some suggested that the documentary could have included more texts of some
statistic so rother information presented on the screen for some scenes rather than
just hearing the texts. Also, it was suggested that we could have included an
interview with a bully because then the audience could understand and view why
people hurt and bully other people. From using demographic and psychographic
explanations it would help me understand and split up the different categories that
the audience would be in.
As a summary, I gathered plenty of feedback form the focus group about the
documentary. This has helped me to notice what improvements were needed in
order to present the doumary at its highest standards. Also, by changing the video to
the needs and suggestions of the audience, it will show that we have taken the
audience's opinions and criticisms into consideration which we have listen to them
and improved the issues.
From gathering the feedback from the audience, as a group we have decided to edit
again the documentary to fix the issues that were suggested by the audience in
order to produce a preferable documentary that meets the professional needs.
We have fixed and improved the issues raised from the audience's feedback to make
sure our documentary meets the professional standards and show the audience that
we have listened to the criticisms and upgraded the video with new changes added
to the final documentary. For instance, in the final documentary, we included
statistics on the screen of certain scene that were needed to be shown on and
included a scene with an interview of a bully. Hence, making changes to the
documentary will show to the evidence that we have listened to the audience’s
suggestion therefore it will be shown in the new documentary.

Evaluation - task 7

  • 1. Suela Elezi Task 7 Unit 4,5,24,31 Evaluation Once I finished editing the whole documentary with my group, I had to gather feedback from the audience when they finished watching our documentary, ‘Say something’, which I created with my group, Eclipse Studios. I asked a group of six people which was the focus group. A focus group is a group of diverse people who are selected and given permit to comment and discuss on the subject of the research created by the researcher. I ensured that equal opportunities as the focus group selected were a diverse group of people with a mixture of races, gender and ages. The feedback gathered would allow me to then asses if the finished documentary meets the needs of the audience and if my group and I would need to make some changes which the audience suggested from the feedbacks in the questionnaires. The feedback would help us to improve our finished product and the massage from the social action was reaching the target audience from following their advice, therefore the documentary will be at its best standard. In the industry, the purpose of the focus group would ensures that the documentary has a clear message to the audience and the finance people will make sure that the money they invest ensures advertising and explains a clear message. Referring to the theory, encoding and decoding by Stuart Hall (1973), which suggests that our documentary contains texts and images, that as producers we decided to present in the video, is then decoded by the audience watching the video. The audience will view the message in the way we have presented the information. I designed a questionnaire with a variety of questions, framing the questions to cover specific areas of the audience covering the strengths and weakens in order to refine the product which the audience would give their feedback. Resulting from the questionnaires, I gained a lot of detailed information form the audience's feedback from watching my documentary. In the questionnaire, I included questions such as, age, gender, occupation, town of residence, have they been bullied before and if the documentary had an impact to them or not. Once I had created the questionnaire I gave them to the focus group which they filled in with their response and then I asked them questions about the documentary. Using questionnaires it would link to target audience segments because the form of a questionnaire would be more efficient to use when gather detailed information from people. The first question asked the audience follows demographic audience segmentation which includes, age; what their age was, five people from the audience were ages from 16 - 8 but one person from the group was above 31 years old so he was an older audience. It was effective that the audience were mainly young as we had

Suela Elezi Task 7 Unit 4,5,24,31 targeted the documentary for youth therefore most young people will be informed about the topic as we found out that bullying occurs from young ages between students. However, I thought it would functional to ask the older generation because they may have been bullied in the past and they may also be parents to children so they could watch the documentary to be more aware and educated about the topic which links back to the aim of the brief to create a community social action project. The next question asked was their gender which links to demographic as well. In this situation this question was needed because we wanted to find out which gender was mostly bullied. The gender that was bullied the most shown from the questionnaires were females. We saw a similar relation to statistics online because it suggested that females would be more likely to be bullied as they are seen to be vulnerable and girls are more associated as ‘gossipers’. But, it was still important to make sure to ask both genders because anyone can be bullied, even males, because even though they are portrayed as to be less likely to be bullied, some males could still be bullied. However, the males from the focus group stated that they had not been bullied and also males may not want to admit that they may have been bullied but still seek advice. The information gathered from the questionnaires shows that the majority are in full time education and only one individual was employed. This links to the next question which is the town of residence which is a psychographic explanation. Everyone in the group lived in different areas in the Borough of Redbridge, in Barkingside, Hainault, Newbury Park, Ilford and other. The other option suggested that people come to Redbridge for personal reason or study or work within the area. King Solomon high school was the local school in the borough which most of young people in the group stated they attend to. This help me understand that even though some people did not live in Redbridge, they still lived near enough to the area and all the students in the focus group studied at the school which even their parents noticed the school which they could get more information from the video as we had interviewed teachers and now they can talk to teachers about bullying if their child was affected by it. Referring to the documentary, I wanted to find out whether people had been victims of bullying, suggesting that the video would be personal and emotional for them. Out of six people in the focus group, only two people stated that they had been bullied before. I also asked if the video had an impact on their lives or not, most of the audience said that the video did impact them because the video was informative by giving them detailed information about the topic which they become more educated

Suela Elezi Task 7 Unit 4,5,24,31 and the video contains interviews with different people which gave them an inside view of how they dealt with bullying which the audience could also follow because they could be in similar situation and from watching the video they now now what to do because they video has shown and given them suggestions and examples. The last question in the questionnaire asked what could have been improved about the video. Nearly everyone in the group stated that the video already had acceptable and informative scenes which emphasised that not a lot of changes were needed. But some suggested that the documentary could have included more texts of some statistic so rother information presented on the screen for some scenes rather than just hearing the texts. Also, it was suggested that we could have included an interview with a bully because then the audience could understand and view why people hurt and bully other people. From using demographic and psychographic explanations it would help me understand and split up the different categories that the audience would be in. As a summary, I gathered plenty of feedback form the focus group about the documentary. This has helped me to notice what improvements were needed in order to present the doumary at its highest standards. Also, by changing the video to the needs and suggestions of the audience, it will show that we have taken the audience's opinions and criticisms into consideration which we have listen to them and improved the issues. From gathering the feedback from the audience, as a group we have decided to edit again the documentary to fix the issues that were suggested by the audience in order to produce a preferable documentary that meets the professional needs. We have fixed and improved the issues raised from the audience's feedback to make sure our documentary meets the professional standards and show the audience that we have listened to the criticisms and upgraded the video with new changes added to the final documentary. For instance, in the final documentary, we included statistics on the screen of certain scene that were needed to be shown on and included a scene with an interview of a bully. Hence, making changes to the documentary will show to the evidence that we have listened to the audience’s suggestion therefore it will be shown in the new documentary.
