Evaluation – Question 7
By Elisabeth E. Larsen
Looking back at your evening task,
what do you feel you have learnt in
the progression from it to the full
product?
Magazine analyses and other research
• I have went through many stages. We started with looking at other
magazines such as Blender, The Source and Vibe. Then I learned what
different things meant. For example what different colours meant, clothes
and other accessories. Then when I started making my own magazine I
knew or I thought more over what kind of colour I wanted to use, that
made my magazine look like a R&B magazine. That kind of research also
made me see why magazines choose that exact colour, font style or clothes.
It’s not just a colour that are used, but a colour that make the magazine
look more like the topic you want it to be.
• We also made some research about the audience to the magazines we
analysed. I found out what kind of audience target the magazine “Blender”
had and that made me get an idea of that kind of audience my magazine
  should have.
Monkey Survey, Pitch, Flatplan and sketches

     • Then we made a questioner that we published on Monkey Survey. I got
friends and family (audience) to answer it for me, and then I found out
what my audience wanted my magazine to contain. I learned how to make
       a survey.
     • We also learned how to write a pitch, make a flat plan and make sketch.
This has made me realize all the things we have to do before we can
design the magazine and publish it. There is a lot of planning to do before
we can start doing things on photoshop.
One part of my sketches: Part of the pitch: Part of my survey: Part of my flatplan:
College magazine
    • First time we tried photoshop, was when we made the college magazine. I
had never used photoshop and had no idea on how I were suppose to use
it, therefor, making the college magazine, were a huge help for me. I
learned how to install pictures and texts on right places using different
methods. How to make the picture fit the magazine size was also
something I learned by this. And I got familiar with how to find different
      colours and different font style.

You can see in the
magazine, that I have
done so the photograph
is behind the fonts and
the masthead.
We can also see that I
have found a lot of
different colours, and I
have learned how to find
the colours well.

Rythm and Soul
• When we began with the music magazine on photoshop, I learned a lot more stuff
about photoshop. I learned how to edit pictures, for instance make them sharper.
• Below you can see all of my pages in my magazine. As a conclusion, I think I have
done a good job with matching the colours and making a cool design. I like the way
I have made the page number in my content page lay under the headlines – this is
something I learned when I started to use photoshop for the first time, with the
  college magazine.
Photographs
• I took my photographs home, in Norway. Therefor I didn’t get a studio to
take the photographs. Still this was an opportunity to think about how I
wanted the shots to be. I had to think about angle, place, clothes and
accessories. So I will say that the planning before I took the photographs
and how I wanted the shots to be, taught me a lot, because it made me
  think for myself.

Here are 2 of the pictures I took of The
Elements. I have used a bit low angle
shot in both of them. They look
masculine and I think the clothes fits
                    very well the ganster look.
Conclusion • I have learned how to use
                                                      photoshop:
                                                      - How to edit pictures

                                                      anywhere I want.

                                                      DPS.
                                                    • I have learned how to write a
DPS. With that I mean I have
                                                      learned to use different words
                                                      that are typical my genre.
                                                    • I have learned how to plan
photographs, and how to plan a
                                                      whole magazine.
                                                    • By analysing the magazines in the
                                                      beginning, I learned that there
are a lot of things to think about
                                                      before you can design a
                                                      magazine.
At the end I want to say that it’s been fun working with this magazine. It’s fun to be
creative and interesting to know what to do before we publish a magazine.
