2. We conducted another focus group
made up of people who fit our
target audience description and
asked them to view the video and
comment on it. We then split these
comments into positive and
constructive categories so that we
could analyse what we have learnt
from them.
3. Positive comments
“I liked the way the faces came together to create one
person, it shows that everyone is the same no matter
what they look like”
This process took a lot of time and effort, but knowing that the
result is successful will encourage us to make the effort again in
the future.
4. Positive comments
“I think that the holi powder worked really
well, particularly during the faster edits”
The popularity of the holi powder proved that doing something
original will catch people’s attention and that it helps continuity
to have a continuous theme (in our case; the theme of colour
through holi powder).
5. Positive comments
“The visuals of the video fitted the lyrics which made the
video more relatable and interesting.”
This is a convention of music videos that we wanted to adhere
to, and this feedback has proved that we have done this
successfully.
6. Positive comments
“The fact that the artist doesn‟t look like a celebrity and
isn‟t glamorised in the video makes her more relatable.”
We wanted Daphne to be a relatable character, especially as this
is convention of indie celebrities who want to be able to relate
to their fans.
7. Positive comments
“To me, the video represents overcoming self-
consciousness for the artist and the other people, which
makes them all more relatable”
We wanted our video to have meaning; particularly to show that
everyone is equal no matter what they look like, and this
comment proves that we have got this meaning across.
8. Positive comments
“The section with the „home video effect‟ feels real and
genuine giving the video an indie feel”
This shows that the video fits with the genre we were aiming
for.
9. Positive comments
“The changing faces looks professional and smooth, the
proportions fit together.”
“The feet shots were synchronized well, it looked really
professional”
We wanted our video to look as professional as possible, so this
re-enforces our determination to be ambitious and creative.
10. Positive Comments
“The different uses of powder showed creativity and
kept the video interesting while having a continuous
theme”
We wanted our video to be as visually appealing as
possible so for our audience, so it is great to know people
enjoyed watching it.
11. Constructive Criticism
“I felt that the scene with the feet didn‟t relate to the
rest of the video.”
“Some scenes don‟t obviously relate to the rest of the
video.”
This has taught us that there needs to be a clear link between
scenes, and in the future we would ask for audience feedback
about these links before filming.
12. Constructive Criticism
“I think that more colour throughout the video would
have enhanced the effects of the powder”
This is something that we didn’t consider during the editing
process, and is something that we would experiment with using
different creative approaches in the future.
13. Constructive Criticism
“Some areas are obviously repeated, some small changes
could have made it more exciting.”
Although repeating parts of footage is a convention in music
videos, we wouldn’t want our video to be repetitive or boring
and so in the future we would make sure that there are fewer
repeats in the video.
14. Constructive Criticism
“The cuts between various faces/bodies could be slicker.”
This is something that we would have liked to spend more time
on, however we do not have the time or resources to get this to
the standard we would like.
15. Constructive Criticism
“When the powder is pouring into the glass, you can
occasionally see the bag in the top left corner where it is
coming from.”
This is regrettable as it makes our video appear less
professional, and in the future we would watch out not to make
mistakes like this again.
16. Constructive Criticism
“The artist would appear more professional if she looked
at the camera more.”
This is most likely due to nerves and in the future we would
have more rehearsals with the artist to make her more
confident.
17. Constructive Criticism
“The censor bars over the artist‟s body would look more
effective if they weren‟t the full width of the screen.”
This is something which we tried out, but we found that it
didn’t look as professional.
18. Constructive Criticism
“The white background in the powder scenes could have
been made to appear more professional.”
Unfortunately, we did not have the resources available to make
a more professional background, but we agree with the
comment and would have liked to use a more professional
backdrop.
