Initial Music Video Idea Feedback Leads to Refined Plan

Initial Idea Feedback

This pitch portrayed our initial ideas for our music video and when we
showed this to our teacher he was very enthusiastic and was impressed that
the music video suited the genre and had a slightly weird feel to it. We
would be following the codes and conventions of a music video in this
genre with more performance than narrative. ‘It will stand out in
comparison to other music videos in this genre and shows a creative touch
with the inclusion of masks and the party theme’. This positive feedback
was great as it was only our original idea but it also raised a few questions
like ‘What are the characters costumes going to be? Where is this going to
be filmed? Is there going to be any lip syncing at all?’ This caused a
slight bit of concern in the group but we managed to come up with new
ideas that suited to the entire group and met more of the codes and
conventions of a standard music video but still kept the weird feel as we
were informed that it was good to include it and made us ‘stand out’.
Due to these raised issues after our initial idea, we had a sit down and discussed some ideas that would suit
everyone and would comply more to the codes and conventions of a music video. We came up with a more
refined and specific idea and decided that the drug theme wasn’t the best choice for our video as it didn’t
look professional. What we came up with is on the next slide in the form of a spider diagram. We were
much happier with the changes we made and it showed with the feedback we got for it.
2. After we got our initial feedback for our original idea and began to film,
we came to the conclusion that our video was lacking something and we
needed to add more in order to meet our personal goals and to make the
video better overall. We came up with a range of new ideas and a
specific plan to our music video which once again received positive
feedback from our teacher. We also decided to get feedback from our
peers as they were obviously in the same boat as us and they also had
positive reviews for the idea. Once we had our idea dialled down we
could commence filming and progress was quickly being made with our
music video. We didn’t want to massively change the music video and it
is still clear to see where we got our inspiration and the initial ideas are
still visible throughout the final cut. It is clear to see below we have the
main character (David) getting stressed at work as the work load piles
up, lip syncing on the train and continually finding little sheets of paper
which create a mystical feel to the music video. This all links to our
original idea and ended up exactly how we imagined it.
3. In conclusion, the initial feedback we got for our original was a great starting point to the whole project and
got the ball rolling with the production of our music video. Although there may have been negative points,
constructive criticism helped us better the project overall and the changes we made felt like a necessity
more than an anything as they were needed to make the video overall more professional. This constructive
criticism was key throughout the whole music video, not just for our initial idea as we were constantly
showing our teacher and peers our progress and ideas so we needed the feedback in order to get the final
video we have today. The professional opinions of the teacher was great but we felt a sense of
independence was also vital because even though inspiration comes of everywhere, all the ideas we had
were gathered between us. We’ve learnt a lot from the whole music video production process; how
important feedback is from peers, how much help a professional opinion can be and that independence is a
massive component in completing this project. As well as this, taking constructive criticism on the chin
and determination through the times where progress feels like it is being hindered is a massive lesson
learned when completing the music video.
