2. How does your media product
represent particular social groups?
Teenagers in the Media
 Many teens are seen as a burden on society, and that they only vandalise things
and get into trouble. Our film partly explores this stereotype in that the characters
seen are wearing clothes that would normally be associated with teenagers and
people who may be up to no good. The main character is also talking about
money which is owed to him, and his behaviour hints a possible experimentation
with drugs and other substances There are always many different stories in the
media that highlight the behaviour of teenagers and young adults, such as the
article headlines shown below
Stereotypes Represented in our Film
 Within our film, we have three teenage characters who each
portray a slightly different stereotype typically believed by
society. By representing a few different stereotypes of teenage
behaviour in our thriller opening, we are able to explore the
reasons behind their actions and what has led them to act in the
ways shown in our film
Matt
 Matt represents the kind of male teenager who is likely to follow
what others are doing and will tend to try something out only
because his friend have. However he will be skeptical of
breaking the law of doing something that may land him in serious
trouble
 The situation he is shown to be in implies that he didn’t want to
do what he did. He is clearly distressed and out of his depth and
is unsure what to do
James
 The character of James is used to represent another, seemingly
normal, male teenager. His body language suggests that he is
calm and is relatively comfortable around Edmund when talking
to him
 Although James appears to realise what Edmund has done
when he spots the watch on the table, he doesn’t seem to react
in the way anyone else would, which could suggest that the
events which have happened are somewhat normal and that
nothing seems out of the ordinary to him
Edmund
 The main character, Edmund, isn't afraid of breaking the law and
doesn't think about the repercussions of his actions. He
represents a slightly psychopathic character which is portrayed
through his body language and shaved head. These features
strengthen the stereotypes shown in our film that are typically
thought of when it comes to young adults finding their way in life.
 His behaviour implies that he could have been experimenting
with different substances and that he is rather unsafe when
under the influence and could become a threat to the people
around him
