• I chose a simple colour of red, black and white to
make my page seem less congested and more
approachable compared to having a large number of
colours, the colours also make the features of my
   front cover stand out more.
 • I decided to use a large front cover image with one
person rather than an image with numerous people
as again I wanted to keep it simplistic.
 • I wanted to try and use up as much space as possible
on my front cover as I felt it would offer more to my
target audience and gain their attention more rather
than just having one or two front cover conventions.
 • I’ve specifically used this layout/text style to make
the magazine seem as if it had some attitude but also
seem as it was going to be a magazine that would be
informative at the same time, I used “Kerrang”
   magazine as inspiration.

                                               Contents Page
• I felt that having a more visual based contents page
with minimal text would be more appealing to my
target audience rather than one filled with loads of
text that they’d have to read, I used “NME” as an
   outline in creating this layout.
 • I also wanted my edited photos to immediately stand
out from the rest of the page so creating a montage
of images, it allowed me to create a layout where I
was able to include more photos.
 • I continued with the house style that I used on my
front page to make my magazine more consistent
rather than having a mix match of varied colours on
   both pages.
 • I used the most typical conventions you’d find on a
contents page such as a menu bar and an editors
comment box to still create some originality whilst
still trying to keep my magazine unique.

                       Double-Page Spread
• I wanted to position numerous images all around my
pages so that my audience wasn’t just reading text
and then the images would break up the article.
 • I decided to have a page structure that had some sort
of flow for when the audience was reading it so by
having an angled upward article, the reader would
easily know where to begin and end.
 • I included some additional features on my double-
page spread such as a live review which you may
find typically in a music magazine but also an
interactive barcode which differs from most music
   magazines of this type.
 • My colour scheme is different from the rest of my
pages as I wanted to make it more fitting to the band
I was writing about and would therefore have much
more of a theme to the pages.

Explanation
• Large title at the top part of the page
          • Consistent style across both pages
          • There is one large main image on one side
            of the page
          • There is standfirst underneath the main
            title
          • The main article text has been divided into
            three separate columns
          • The style of text for the title is different
            from the main article text
          • There is a drop capital at the beginning of
            the article

Comparison – Double-Page Spread
• The overall style and approach for my magazine was to create a local music scene magazine that had some
form of attitude much like that of “Kerrang” whilst also making it informative and interesting in the process.
• The audience are able to read the text easily as it has a continuous flow to it. Also, the text style and the way
that the main article for example has been worded, I wanted to make it into an informal and approachable
    style.
• I wanted my magazine to follow the typical conventions of any magazine on all my pages but I also wanted to
create a unique style and layout that was appealing. An example would be my double-page spread where I’ve
created an angled sort of style that flows from one corner to the other and is still easy to read without it being
    to crowded.
• Additionally, I wanted to make the front cover pretty much similar to that of existing rock magazines that are
currently available via the use of my text positioning such as my masthead and also the way I have used
    images.
• I also wanted my contents page to highlight the main features of my magazine through the use of my images
and text style so by having images along with quotes from the articles themselves, it make it much more easier
    on the eye.
• For the name of my magazine, I wanted to make it clear when my audience first saw it that it is clearly a
music magazine and by having a title such as “Amped” which immediately suggests music, it is much more
likely my audience will take notice.
• By having a large centralised cover image that was in the same style of “Kerrang”, this will again make my
magazine more in the style of current music magazines.
• Finally, I wanted my magazine to have a consistent house style on all the pages to make it seem more
professional and less congested with multiple images and pieces of text although the colours and style of text
would change in accordance with whatever the article was on about. For example, the blue colour linked to the
    band name “Across All Oceans”.

                         Magazine Style
Despite my magazine using the typical codes and
conventions you will find in popular rock/metal music
magazine currently on sale, it still has a unique approach by
just focusing on the local music scene in a particular area of
the country. So overall, I fell my magazine is much different
with the way it uses the original conventions and how it
makes the most of them throughout my pages. A consistent
and simplistic style may not usually be associated with the
music genre my magazine focuses on, however it’s still able
to deliver some attitude that offers my target audience all
the information they would expect from a music magazine.

  • 4. • I chose a simple colour of red, black and white to make my page seem less congested and more approachable compared to having a large number of colours, the colours also make the features of my front cover stand out more. • I decided to use a large front cover image with one person rather than an image with numerous people as again I wanted to keep it simplistic. • I wanted to try and use up as much space as possible on my front cover as I felt it would offer more to my target audience and gain their attention more rather than just having one or two front cover conventions. • I’ve specifically used this layout/text style to make the magazine seem as if it had some attitude but also seem as it was going to be a magazine that would be informative at the same time, I used “Kerrang” magazine as inspiration. Explanation

  • 7. • I felt that having a more visual based contents page with minimal text would be more appealing to my target audience rather than one filled with loads of text that they’d have to read, I used “NME” as an outline in creating this layout. • I also wanted my edited photos to immediately stand out from the rest of the page so creating a montage of images, it allowed me to create a layout where I was able to include more photos. • I continued with the house style that I used on my front page to make my magazine more consistent rather than having a mix match of varied colours on both pages. • I used the most typical conventions you’d find on a contents page such as a menu bar and an editors comment box to still create some originality whilst still trying to keep my magazine unique. • 10. • I wanted to position numerous images all around my pages so that my audience wasn’t just reading text and then the images would break up the article. • I decided to have a page structure that had some sort of flow for when the audience was reading it so by having an angled upward article, the reader would easily know where to begin and end. • I included some additional features on my double- page spread such as a live review which you may find typically in a music magazine but also an interactive barcode which differs from most music magazines of this type. • My colour scheme is different from the rest of my pages as I wanted to make it more fitting to the band I was writing about and would therefore have much more of a theme to the pages. • 12. The overall style and approach for my magazine was to create a local music scene magazine that had some form of attitude much like that of “Kerrang” whilst also making it informative and interesting in the process. • The audience are able to read the text easily as it has a continuous flow to it. Also, the text style and the way that the main article for example has been worded, I wanted to make it into an informal and approachable style. • I wanted my magazine to follow the typical conventions of any magazine on all my pages but I also wanted to create a unique style and layout that was appealing. An example would be my double-page spread where I’ve created an angled sort of style that flows from one corner to the other and is still easy to read without it being to crowded. • Additionally, I wanted to make the front cover pretty much similar to that of existing rock magazines that are currently available via the use of my text positioning such as my masthead and also the way I have used images. • I also wanted my contents page to highlight the main features of my magazine through the use of my images and text style so by having images along with quotes from the articles themselves, it make it much more easier on the eye. • For the name of my magazine, I wanted to make it clear when my audience first saw it that it is clearly a music magazine and by having a title such as “Amped” which immediately suggests music, it is much more likely my audience will take notice. • By having a large centralised cover image that was in the same style of “Kerrang”, this will again make my magazine more in the style of current music magazines. • Finally, I wanted my magazine to have a consistent house style on all the pages to make it seem more professional and less congested with multiple images and pieces of text although the colours and style of text would change in accordance with whatever the article was on about. For example, the blue colour linked to the band name “Across All Oceans”. Magazine Style
  • 13. Despite my magazine using the typical codes and conventions you will find in popular rock/metal music magazine currently on sale, it still has a unique approach by just focusing on the local music scene in a particular area of the country. So overall, I fell my magazine is much different with the way it uses the original conventions and how it makes the most of them throughout my pages. A consistent and simplistic style may not usually be associated with the music genre my magazine focuses on, however it’s still able to deliver some attitude that offers my target audience all the information they would expect from a music magazine.
