The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. - 4. We used lip syncing in order to show how we were capable of this and in order to make our music video appear to a more professional standard. We were inspired by Ellie Goulding, and therefore, we made our lip syncing shots similar to hers. Below is a screen grab from our music video when we were lip syncing and Ellie Guolding’s music video to ‘Your song’; illustrating how we used lip syncing.
- 5. Furthermore, by constantly including lip syncing, we could keep referring back to the main female character and display her emotion. This would also ensure that our video was more interesting as it wouldn’t be the same shots throughout.
- 6. Moreover, we used the individual sections of lip syncing in order to split up our music video. As it was like a story, we had different sections of our music video. Like the graveyard section and the montage section, these did not fit in with the rest of the video and therefore, we were able to use the lip syncing to split them apart, making the video flow. The image below shows how we slotted the lip syncing in between the rest of the video, to cut it up:
- 7. We had decided on our setting beforehand. Our song was very calm and our idea portrayed our female character as lonely and deserted. Therefore, we chose for our setting to be natural and in the outside as the female character could appear isolated. We got this idea from previous music video’s which gave us inspiration for our music video setting.

- 10. As mentioned our song was a calm song, although it also held within it a lot of emotion and therefore, so did our music video. Therefore, we had to show emotion throughout our video. This was because our story involved the female characters boyfriend dying. Without her boyfriend she is isolated. Thus why we chose for our female character to appear in isolated, surreal areas. Although, the female also shows happy emotions when remembering her and her boyfriends’ ‘happy’ time together.
- 11. One video we believe our video is similar to regarding these happy emotions portrayed through memories is; ‘The one that got away’ by Katy Perry. This song is about her losing her boyfriend and also, shows her memories with him before he dies also. It also involves all of her memories with him and how she was happy with him showing not just sad emotion throughout the video, but happy emotion too just like what we wanted to portray in our video. We wanted our female characters memories to appear happy in order to portray her reliance on him and how happy she was when he was there.

We wanted to show pure, natural emotion throughout, and therefore tried to make our female character appear sad when singing and walking alone. One person who inspired us greatly by showing raw emotion was Senaed O’Connor in her music video: ‘Nothing compares to you’. This is because her video involved close up shots of just her face, showing the real emotion felt by her. We also wanted to imitate this emotion in our video and decided to include many close up shots of the females face, looking either sad or singing showing emotion.
