1) The document describes the filmmaker's original idea for their preliminary film project, which involved a hostage situation in a car. 2) They then decided to create a new script about a businesswoman keeping her sister hostage after realizing the original plan would not be as effective. 3) While filming, the filmmaker focused on incorporating different shots like shot reverse shot but struggled with following the 180 degree rule, which caused some confusion at the end.

1. Prelim Evaluation - Hostage.
Originally when I started my prelim task I had an idea in my head of what I wanted to do. So I
came up with some ideas and then wrote up a script. Initially I wanted my prelim to take place
in a car; I wanted to have a driver and someone in the passenger seat and then to have a stash of
money in the characters pocket, I wanted to have a lot of moments in my film that would have
the audience on edge. My plan was to end the film with the passenger seat ending up as a
hostage; hence the name hostage. In my prelim task I have to use shots such as shot reverse shot
and match on action shot, as well as this I have to use the 180 degree rule. After thinking about
the original plan I had for my prelim I decided that this plan would not be as effective as it
could have been.
I then decided to come up with another script, as I wanted to be able to experiment with my film
and the editing as I had not used premier pro since I was in BTEC Media in year 11.
My new prelim task that I decided to do was about a successful business women that was
keeping her sister hostage. So I did decide to keep the name hostage.
Once I had finished the planning of my prelim task and I started filming, I planned different
ways of how I could fit the different shots I needed into my film.
Whilst making this film I think that my main weakness was getting to grips with the 180 degree
rule. This was the hardest part as it was important for the film to make sense. Everything was
fine until the end of the film on one of the last shots as I moved the table around. The shot that I
chose to do did not really make sense. But I did not realise this until I had extracted the film and
it got pointed out to me. This is one of the things that I would do differently if I was to repeat
this task. I would take more time making sure it all made sense and that it wouldn’t confuse the
audience. Another thing that I could have improved on was the sound; the voices were not as
loud as I wanted them to be.
On the other hand my main strength whilst making this film was the actual filming itself. I
really think that since I done media in year 11, that I have improved my filming skills, and also
my editing. From doing this task it has let me experiment with using different effects on videos,
and I have learned more in depth about how I can go from one shot from the other using
transitions etc.
Overall I am happy with how my video turned out, but as I said the one thing I would do if I
was to repeat this would take more time making sure it makes sense, especially regarding the
180 degree rule.
Peer/Teacher comments: I had good use of sound, but I need to think more about lighting so I
don’t have to adjust in post-production.
